Amidst the increasing tension in Asia regarding Taiwan, China has given a stern warning to Japan. China’s Defense Ministry said on Thursday (27 November 2025) that if Japan interferes in Taiwan’s affairs or crosses the line, it will have to pay a very painful price. This statement has come when Japan is preparing to deploy missiles on one of its islands about 100 kilometers away from Taiwan.

China angry over Japanese missile deployment near Taiwan
Japan’s Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi recently confirmed that plans to deploy medium-range surface-to-air missiles on Yonaguni Island are moving forward. This island is just 110 kilometers away from the east coast of Taiwan. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has already said that if China launches a military attack on Taiwan, Japan can respond militarily, after which the tension in the relations between the two countries has further increased.

Japan has no right to interfere in Taiwan – China
Responding to Japan’s plan, China’s Defense Ministry spokesperson Jiang Bin said, the Taiwan issue is entirely China’s internal matter. Japan has nothing to do with it. He further said that Japan is forgetting its 1895-1945 colonial rule over Taiwan and is not learning from history.

Jiang warned that if Japan crossed the border even by half a step, it would have to suffer painful consequences. The Chinese army has the full capability to stop any enemy.

Taiwan said- our land, our decision
The Taiwan government again rejected China’s claims and said that only the people of Taiwan will decide what their future will be. Taiwan President Lai Ching-te this week announced plans to spend an additional $40 billion on defense over the next eight years. China reacted to this by saying that this money would be ‘wasted’ and would only cause loss to Taiwan.

China itself is increasing spending, why not us?- Taiwan’s answer
On China’s opposition, Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council spokesperson Liang Wen-chieh said, China’s defense budget is many times more than Taiwan’s. If China wants peace then it should use this money for the welfare of its citizens. Liang also said that the increasing tension between the two sides is harmful for everyone. Taiwan has alleged that China’s military is carrying out activities in the sea and airspace around Taiwan almost every day, which it calls a tactic of pressure and intimidation.

US President Donald Trump on Friday claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping assured him that China would not attack Taiwan as long as he is President. Trump gave this statement in an interview to Fox News. This claim has come at a time when tension between China and Taiwan remains constant.

Trump’s statement
Trump said in the interview, “President Xi told me that as long as you are President, I will never do this. I told him, ‘I appreciate it.’ But he also said that he is very patient and China is also very patient. ” Trump further said that he is confident that there is no possibility of attacking Taiwan during his tenure.

Trump-shee conversation
The first confirmation of Trump’s second presidential tenure between Trump and Xi Jinping took place in June. Even in April, Trump had said that Xi had called him, but he did not clarify when the conversation took place.

China’s stance and Taiwan’s objection
China considers Taiwan as its part and has repeatedly said that it will “re-integrate” this island under any circumstances, for this, force will also be used if needed. On the other hand, Taiwan strongly opposes China’s claim of sovereignty and considers itself an independent democratic rule.

America and Taiwan relations
Although the US is Taiwan’s largest international supporter and main supplier of weapons, there is no formal diplomatic relations between the two countries. China has always objected to this role of America.

Chinese Embassy response
The Chinese Embassy in Washington said on Friday that Taiwan’s issue is the most important and sensitive subject of China-America relations. Embassy spokesman Liu Pengu said in a statement, “The US government should follow one-China policy and three joint releases of China-America. Careful matters related to Taiwan should be handled carefully and maintaining peace and stability in China-America relations and Taiwan Strait.”
