Many people compared this gesture of Vijay to that of Chief Minister M.K. He did it with the famous hand gesture of Stalin, the video of which went viral this year. Stalin had given the signal by raising his hand while leaving the DMK headquarters after seat sharing talks with Congress. DMK remained on the target of Vijay

Vijay made it clear in his address that his party is not a political force based only on the popularity of a film star. He said, ‘Most people first form a political party and then go to the public. We first went to the public and then formed the party. Those who did not understand this, kept dismissing us as just an actor’s party.

The Chief Minister reminded that his party had fought the 2026 assembly elections without any alliance. He said, ‘We contested the 2026 elections alone. The public understood us clearly and we got 35 percent votes. We received 1.72 crore votes and emerged as a major independent political force. This is the reason why today we are sitting in the government.

While clarifying his political philosophy, Vijay mentioned Periyar E.V., considered the father of the Dravidian movement. Ramasamy was also mentioned. He said, ‘Periyar’s rejection of religious faith is not something that we have accepted, but we have fully accepted his broad principles.’

Vijay further said that his party has adopted Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s ideas of equal opportunity and social justice, while making Kamaraj’s honest governance model the cornerstone of its politics.

Attacking DMK, the Chief Minister said that his government is the government of the common people. He said, ‘Just like during Anna’s time there was a government of common people and during MGR’s time there was a government of very common people, similarly this government led by Vijay is a government of the most common people.’

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has recommended a major reshuffle in the state cabinet. In this reshuffle, the portfolios of many senior ministers have been changed and 23 new ministers have been included in the Council of Ministers. Nirmal Kumar will continue to hold the charge of departments related to electricity, non-conventional energy, law, court, jail, elections and passport.

In another important change. A. Sengottaiyan has been given the responsibility of Revenue and Disaster Management Department. He will look after revenue administration, sub-collector related work, disaster management and assembly matters.

The Governor has also approved department allocation to 23 new ministers. Among these, Srinath got fisheries, Kamali S. Animal husbandry to C. Vijayalakshmi to milk and dairy development and R. V. What did the government say?

After getting the approval from the Governor, TVK Chief C. Joseph Vijay will take oath as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday (May 10, 2026) at 10:30 am at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in the capital Chennai.

The path to power was not easy for Vijay

TVK Chief Vijay will take oath as the next CM of Tamil Nadu on Sunday (May 10, 2026), but after winning the elections, the path to forming the government and reaching power in the state was not easy for him. In fact, after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026, very dramatic developments were seen in the politics of Tamil Nadu between the hung mandate on May 4, 2026 and the swearing-in of the TVK-led government on May 10. The whole game started with the lack of 11 seats

TVK won a total of 108 seats in the assembly elections held on April 23, 2026, due to which it emerged as the largest party in the 234-member assembly, but the majority figure in the assembly was 118, that is, TVK was 10 seats short of the majority. Since Vijay won from two seats and could cast only one vote in the assembly, TVK’s total strength now came down to 107. That means 11 MLAs were needed for majority.

Five days of turmoil and alliance with six parties

To help TVK reach the majority mark for government formation in Tamil Nadu, the Congress party first offered the support of its five MLAs. After this, Communist Party of India supported on two seats and then Communist Party of India (Marxist) also supported on two seats. After the support of Congress, CPI and CPM, the TVK alliance’s tally reached 116, but the majority was still two seats away. Finally, VCK and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) announced the support of two of their MLAs, who were earlier part of the MK Stalin-led DMK alliance.

Case stuck after giving support

After discussing support with TVK, VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan took a dig at Vijay for joining hands with Congress. Meanwhile, IUML leader AM Shahjahan denied the news of initial support and said that he did not give any support letter to TVK.

Meanwhile, AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran accused TVK of distributing fake letters of support to his party and AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Said to support Palaniswami.

VCK deleted the post supporting TVK

At the same time, VCK had shared a letter of support to Vijay on the X platform on Friday (May 8, 2026), but after some time this post was deleted and the account also disappeared. After this, VCK and IUML submitted formal letters of support to TVK at 5 pm on Saturday (May 9) and TVK’s alliance figure reached 120.

Meeting with the Governor at 6:30 pm

Even after receiving letters of support from all the parties of the alliance, TVK Chief Vijay’s troubles did not go away, because Governor Arlekar was scheduled to leave for Kerala tour on Saturday at 7:10 pm, but after the end of the tenure of Tamil Nadu Assembly and the fear of imposition of President’s rule in the state, he suddenly canceled his Kerala visit and met TVK Chief Vijay at Lok Bhavan at 6:30 pm.

Invitation letter for government formation received in the fourth meeting with the Governor

This was Vijay’s fourth meeting with the Governor in the last three days. This time the TVK Chief met the Governor with the support letters of 120 MLAs. After the two-hour meeting, Governor RV Arlekar invited TVK chief C. Joseph Vijay to form the new government in Tamil Nadu.

However, on the issue of state rights they (Left parties) will remain with the DMK. Left parties have announced that they will not be a part of the TVK cabinet. Both CPI and CPM have two MLAs each. According to Election Commission rules, party founder Vijay will have to give up one of the two seats he won. Vijay will have to give up one of the Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East seats in Chennai.

TVK sought support from the left

TVK leader CTR Kumar met M. Veerapandian of the Communist Party of India and P. Shanmugam of the Communist Party of India-Marxist and sought support. He stressed that Vijay has already made it clear that power sharing is necessary so that allies can implement their respective policies and ideologies.

According to Kumar, TVK has sent a request for support to the Left parties, Viduthalai Chiruthigal Katchi (VCK) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) through emails and formal letters. He expressed confidence that the party will be successful in forming the government in Tamil Nadu.

He also clarified that TVK has not approached the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and has no intention of doing so. Whereas Congress, which has won 5 seats, has already announced its support to TVK.

Kumar said that as per constitutional tradition the Governor should invite the largest party to form the government. He claims that the mandate is in favor of TVK and on this basis Vijay should get the opportunity to become the Chief Minister.

Madras High Court: The DMK government of Tamil Nadu has received a big blow from the Madurai bench of Madras High Court. The court has rejected the government’s objections in the case related to permission for lighting of lamps on the stone pillar near the dargah located on Tiruparankundram hills.

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday (January 6) upheld the order in which lamps were asked to be lit on the stone pillar near the dargah on Tiruparankundram hills.

‘No strong evidence presented’

The court clearly said that no strong evidence was presented by the state government and Hazrat Sultan Sikandar Badusha Avulia Dargah, which could prove that there is a ban on lighting lamps there in any Aagam Shastra. Taking a tough stance on the arguments of the state government, the court said that it is ‘shocking and incomprehensible’ to believe that the people of Devasthanam should light a lamp on a stone pillar just for one day in a year and that would lead to law and order.

DMK government reprimanded

The court further said that such a situation can arise only when the state itself encourages it. The court also expressed the hope that no government will do this for any political gain. Along with this, the court also said that the claim of declaring the stone pillar as the property of the Dargah also casts doubt on the efforts for reconciliation or mediation made before the court.

The order was not obeyed

This case is related to the order of the Single Judge dated December 1, 2025, in which the people of Arulmigu Subramaniam Swamy Temple in Tiruparankundram were asked to light lamps on the Deepthoon built on the hill top on the day of Karthigai Deepam. But this order could not be followed that day. After this, on the same day, the single judge allowed the devotees to go to the hill themselves and light the lamp, yet the lamp was not lit. After this, action related to contempt of court was initiated, which is still going on.

The incident of death of children due to cough syrup in Madhya Pradesh has raised serious questions on the quality and monitoring of raw materials in India. At the same time, now the central government has also become strict in this matter. The central government has also accused the Tamil Nadu government regarding this matter.

The Union Health Ministry said that the ongoing controversy over the death of 20 children in Madhya Pradesh due to consumption of cough syrup is not a matter of assigning blame between the Center and the Tamil Nadu government, but first of all it is a matter of accountability. Despite clear recommendations from the Center for Food and Drug Administration, Tamil Nadu has failed to take action in this matter.

The only question is, why has the FDA of Tamil Nadu not taken any action in this matter till now?
