The end of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s speech in the Tamil Nadu Assembly was as famous as his entire address. Before ending the speech, Vijay sought permission from the Speaker and then made a hand gesture in a special filmy style. Seeing this scene, the MLAs present in the House started clapping and its video immediately went viral on social media.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s speech in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday was not limited to just political rhetoric. During the speech, when Vijay targeted the alleged corruption of the DMK government, a huge uproar started in the House. DMK MLAs protested and later staged a walkout.

But the most talked about moment of the entire incident was when after finishing the speech, Vijay took permission from the speaker and in his old filmy style made a special cinematic gesture. The members present in the House were stunned for a few moments, while this scene immediately became a topic of discussion on social media.

#WATCH | Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay seeks permission from the Speaker and performs a cinematic gesture as he concludes his speech in the State Assembly.

(Video source: Tamil Nadu State Assembly) pic.twitter.com/Y7BlOXHkYI

Many people compared this gesture of Vijay to that of Chief Minister M.K. He did it with the famous hand gesture of Stalin, the video of which went viral this year. Stalin had given the signal by raising his hand while leaving the DMK headquarters after seat sharing talks with Congress. This was seen on social media as a message of “it’s all settled” or “the matter is closed”.

#WATCH | Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin leaves from DMK HQ in Chennai after meeting with the Congress party over seat sharing for the upcoming assembly elections. pic.twitter.com/VIzthfu9pw

 — ANI (@ANI) March 4, 2026

However, Stalin later clarified that this was a completely instinctive reaction. He had told that the journalists were continuously asking whether the conversation was over or not, in response to which he gestured with his hand and said, ‘It is done, it is over.’ Despite this, that gesture remained a topic of discussion for a long time. Now Vijay’s new gesture has revived the same debate.

DMK remained on the target of Vijay

Vijay made it clear in his address that his party is not a political force based only on the popularity of a film star. He said, ‘Most people first form a political party and then go to the public. We first went to the public and then formed the party. Those who did not understand this, kept dismissing us as just an actor’s party.

The Chief Minister reminded that his party had fought the 2026 assembly elections without any alliance. He said, ‘We contested the 2026 elections alone. The public understood us clearly and we got 35 percent votes. We received 1.72 crore votes and emerged as a major independent political force. This is the reason why today we are sitting in the government.

While clarifying his political philosophy, Vijay mentioned Periyar E.V., considered the father of the Dravidian movement. Ramasamy was also mentioned. He said, ‘Periyar’s rejection of religious faith is not something that we have accepted, but we have fully accepted his broad principles.’

Vijay further said that his party has adopted Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s ideas of equal opportunity and social justice, while making Kamaraj’s honest governance model the cornerstone of its politics.

Attacking DMK, the Chief Minister said that his government is the government of the common people. He said, ‘Just like during Anna’s time there was a government of common people and during MGR’s time there was a government of very common people, similarly this government led by Vijay is a government of the most common people.’

DA Hike News: These days, state governments are also following the footsteps of the Centre. The central government has decided to increase the dearness allowance of its employees. After which now the state governments are also increasing the dearness allowance of their employees. Recently, Bihar government has increased the dearness allowance of its state employees. Now actor Vijay, who recently became the CM of Tamil Nadu, has also given the gift of dearness allowance to the employees.

Thalapathy Vijay’s gift to government employees
In fact, recently the Government of Tamil Nadu on Thursday announced to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) by 2% for government employees, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners. After this DA has increased from 58% to 60%. This increase will be considered effective from January 1, 2026. This decision has been taken by the government of recently appointed Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C Joseph Vijay. This will benefit about 16 lakh government employees, teachers, pensioners and their families of the state.

The government also said that the Central Government has already increased the DA of its employees from 58% to 60%. After this, the Chief Minister decided that the same increased DA should be given to the employees and teachers of Tamil Nadu.

Tamil film star and TVK chief Thalapathy Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu today. He assumed the responsibility as Chief Minister as soon as he took oath at the Nehru Stadium in Chennai at around 10:30 in the morning. During this period, Vijay’s style remained different and a topic of discussion.

While taking oath as Chief Minister in Tamil Nadu, leaders usually wear traditional white vesti and shirt, whereas Vijay deviated from this tradition and chose a modern formal look. He took oath wearing a white shirt, black pants and formal shoes. His style looked exactly like a film hero and attracted people’s attention. Political experts believe that this look of Vijay could be an attempt to connect with the youth and give a message of change. Vijay tried to show through his attire that his government would work with modern thinking and in a new way.

Strict arrangements for Vijay’s swearing in ceremony

Till now, most of the Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu have been taking oath in traditional Tamil attire. MG Ramachandran was famous for his white vest, shirt, cap and glasses. M. Karunanidhi was always seen in yellow shawl and traditional clothes. O. Panneerselvam, EK Palaniswami and MK Stalin also took oath as Chief Minister wearing white vest and shirt. In such a situation, Vijay’s formal look is being considered as a new change in the politics of Tamil Nadu. Tight security arrangements were made in Chennai for Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony. A large number of policemen were deployed inside and outside the Nehru Stadium. Thousands of supporters were present at the ceremony and an atmosphere of enthusiasm was visible in the entire area.

9 TVK leaders also took oath as ministers

Along with Vijay, 9 leaders of his party TVK also took oath as ministers. These include names like Thiru N Anand, CTR Nirmal Kumar, Arun Raj, Aadhav Arjuna, Keerthana, Rajmohan, Venkataramanan and Sengottaiyan. TVK MLA Keertana was the most talked about because she took oath as a minister at the age of 29. She has been elected MLA from Sivakasi seat and has become the youngest minister of Vijay cabinet. Vijay’s party TVK had won 107 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. However, 118 seats were required to form the government. After this, parties like Congress, CPI, CPI-M, VCK and IUML supported Vijay, after which the path for his government was cleared.

After five days of turmoil after getting the public mandate in the results of Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, the way has finally been cleared for Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the government in the state and party chief C. Joseph Vijay to become the Chief Minister. Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Saturday (May 9, 2026) has approved the formation of a new government in the state of TVK chief Vijay.

After getting the approval from the Governor, TVK Chief C. Joseph Vijay will take oath as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday (May 10, 2026) at 10:30 am at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in the capital Chennai.

The path to power was not easy for Vijay

TVK Chief Vijay will take oath as the next CM of Tamil Nadu on Sunday (May 10, 2026), but after winning the elections, the path to forming the government and reaching power in the state was not easy for him. In fact, after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026, very dramatic developments were seen in the politics of Tamil Nadu between the hung mandate on May 4, 2026 and the swearing-in of the TVK-led government on May 10. This included deleted tweets, alleged fake support letters, last minute changes in the decision and the suspense that continued till Saturday (May 9) evening.

Due to this suspense, Tamil Nadu Governor RV Arlekar had to cancel his visit to Chennai and finally he met TVK Chief Vijay, who was making rounds of Lok Bhavan for the last one week, and gave him approval to form the government.

The whole game started with the lack of 11 seats

TVK won a total of 108 seats in the assembly elections held on April 23, 2026, due to which it emerged as the largest party in the 234-member assembly, but the majority figure in the assembly was 118, that is, TVK was 10 seats short of the majority. Since Vijay won from two seats and could cast only one vote in the assembly, TVK’s total strength now came down to 107. That means 11 MLAs were needed for majority.

Also read: Keralam CM: Who will be the Chief Minister of Kerala? Final decision in the hands of Kharge-Rahul, meeting lasted for 3 hours in Delhi

Five days of turmoil and alliance with six parties

To help TVK reach the majority mark for government formation in Tamil Nadu, the Congress party first offered the support of its five MLAs. After this, Communist Party of India supported on two seats and then Communist Party of India (Marxist) also supported on two seats. After the support of Congress, CPI and CPM, the TVK alliance’s tally reached 116, but the majority was still two seats away. Finally, VCK and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) announced the support of two of their MLAs, who were earlier part of the MK Stalin-led DMK alliance.

Case stuck after giving support

After discussing support with TVK, VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan took a dig at Vijay for joining hands with Congress. Meanwhile, IUML leader AM Shahjahan denied the news of initial support and said that he did not give any support letter to TVK.

Meanwhile, AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran accused TVK of distributing fake letters of support to his party and AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Said to support Palaniswami.

VCK deleted the post supporting TVK

At the same time, VCK had shared a letter of support to Vijay on the X platform on Friday (May 8, 2026), but after some time this post was deleted and the account also disappeared. However, the screenshot of the support given by the party went viral. After this, VCK and IUML submitted formal letters of support to TVK at 5 pm on Saturday (May 9) and TVK’s alliance figure reached 120.

Meeting with the Governor at 6:30 pm

Even after receiving letters of support from all the parties of the alliance, TVK Chief Vijay’s troubles did not go away, because Governor Arlekar was scheduled to leave for Kerala tour on Saturday at 7:10 pm, but after the end of the tenure of Tamil Nadu Assembly and the fear of imposition of President’s rule in the state, he suddenly canceled his Kerala visit and met TVK Chief Vijay at Lok Bhavan at 6:30 pm.

Invitation letter for government formation received in the fourth meeting with the Governor

This was Vijay’s fourth meeting with the Governor in the last three days. This time the TVK Chief met the Governor with the support letters of 120 MLAs. After the two-hour meeting, Governor RV Arlekar invited TVK chief C. Joseph Vijay to form the new government in Tamil Nadu.

TVK Chief C. Joseph Vijay will take oath on Saturday (May 10) at 10:30 am at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. According to news agency ANI, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will also be present at the swearing-in ceremony of TVK Chief Vijay.

TVK supporters have filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court, in which it has been said that the party has not received an invitation to form the government from Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.

The petition said that Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as the largest party in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, hence it should be given a chance to form the government. Along with this, the writ petition filed in the Supreme Court has sought instructions to the Governor of Tamil Nadu to invite actor Vijay’s party TVK to form the government.

What is the whole controversy about government formation in Tamil Nadu??

In fact, in the elections held on 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), the party of actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay (Thalapathy Vijay), won a big victory on 108 seats. However, TVK Chief Vijay had contested elections from two assembly seats, hence the total figure becomes 107, but the majority figure in Tamil Nadu is 118 seats. Due to which Vijay’s TVK was 11 seats behind. Whereas state Governor RV Arlekar asked the TVK Chief to present majority before the formation of the new government.

The clouds of confusion over the formation of the new government in Tamil Nadu have now, in a way, been removed. TVK Chief Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar on Friday (8 May 2026) and staked claim to form the government. According to sources, Vijay has the support of 121 MLAs, more than the majority. In Tamil Nadu, which has 234 assembly seats, the magic figure of majority to form the government is 118.

This is Vijay’s third meeting with the Governor. Earlier when he had met the Governor, he did not have the support of MLAs required to form the government. According to sources, the Governor had asked him to come with the required number of MLAs.

Vijay will take oath as CM tomorrow

TVK chief Vijay will take oath as CM on May 9 at 11 am at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. Apart from 107 MLAs of his own party, Vijay handed over letters of support to Governor Rajendra Arlekar from 5 MLAs of Congress, 2 of CPM, 2 of CPI, 2 of VCK, 2 of IUML, 1 MLA of AMMK, which is a total of 121. That means Vijay has only 3 MLAs more than the majority.

Left party will not be part of TVK cabinet

CPI and CPM, both Left parties in the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu, said the decision to extend support has been taken to prevent BJP from making a backdoor entry into the state. However, on the issue of state rights they (Left parties) will remain with the DMK. Left parties have announced that they will not be a part of the TVK cabinet. Both CPI and CPM have two MLAs each. After a day-long discussion, he announced his support to actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party. Congress, which has five MLAs, has already supported TVK.

According to Election Commission rules, party founder Vijay will have to give up one of the two seats he won. Vijay will have to give up one of the Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East seats in Chennai.

Tamil Nadu Government Formation: After the hung assembly in Tamil Nadu, the suspense regarding government formation is deepening. Vijay-led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) staked claim to form the government before the Governor, but has been asked to prove the required majority mark (118).

Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, has emerged as the largest party in the recently held elections by winning 108 seats, but is still short of the required figure of 118 to form the government in the 238-member assembly. In such a situation, the party needs the support of at least 10 more MLAs to gain majority.

TVK can take a big step

Meanwhile, news of possible talks between Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has intensified the political stir. According to TVK sources, if DMK or AIADMK tries to stake claim to form the government, all 108 party MLAs may resign.

This is being considered a big and aggressive political step, which may further increase instability in the politics of the state. Actually, TVK suspects that DMK led by MK Stalin and AIADMK are together making a strategy to keep Vijay away from power. In view of this, DMK has also authorized Stalin to take emergency political decisions.

Right now the situation in Tamil Nadu is very uncertain, on one hand TVK is trying to gather majority, while on the other hand a possible new alliance can completely change the equation of politics in the state.

TVK sought support from the left

TVK leader CTR Kumar met M. Veerapandian of the Communist Party of India and P. Shanmugam of the Communist Party of India-Marxist and sought support. He stressed that Vijay has already made it clear that power sharing is necessary so that allies can implement their respective policies and ideologies.

According to Kumar, TVK has sent a request for support to the Left parties, Viduthalai Chiruthigal Katchi (VCK) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) through emails and formal letters. He expressed confidence that the party will be successful in forming the government in Tamil Nadu.

He also clarified that TVK has not approached the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and has no intention of doing so. Whereas Congress, which has won 5 seats, has already announced its support to TVK.

Kumar said that as per constitutional tradition the Governor should invite the largest party to form the government. He claims that the mandate is in favor of TVK and on this basis Vijay should get the opportunity to become the Chief Minister.

Madras High Court: The DMK government of Tamil Nadu has received a big blow from the Madurai bench of Madras High Court. The court has rejected the government’s objections in the case related to permission for lighting of lamps on the stone pillar near the dargah located on Tiruparankundram hills.

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday (January 6) upheld the order in which lamps were asked to be lit on the stone pillar near the dargah on Tiruparankundram hills.

‘No strong evidence presented’

The court clearly said that no strong evidence was presented by the state government and Hazrat Sultan Sikandar Badusha Avulia Dargah, which could prove that there is a ban on lighting lamps there in any Aagam Shastra. Taking a tough stance on the arguments of the state government, the court said that it is ‘shocking and incomprehensible’ to believe that the people of Devasthanam should light a lamp on a stone pillar just for one day in a year and that would lead to law and order.

DMK government reprimanded

The court further said that such a situation can arise only when the state itself encourages it. The court also expressed the hope that no government will do this for any political gain. Along with this, the court also said that the claim of declaring the stone pillar as the property of the Dargah also casts doubt on the efforts for reconciliation or mediation made before the court.

The order was not obeyed

This case is related to the order of the Single Judge dated December 1, 2025, in which the people of Arulmigu Subramaniam Swamy Temple in Tiruparankundram were asked to light lamps on the Deepthoon built on the hill top on the day of Karthigai Deepam. But this order could not be followed that day. After this, on the same day, the single judge allowed the devotees to go to the hill themselves and light the lamp, yet the lamp was not lit. After this, action related to contempt of court was initiated, which is still going on.

The incident of death of children due to cough syrup in Madhya Pradesh has raised serious questions on the quality and monitoring of raw materials in India. At the same time, now the central government has also become strict in this matter. The central government has also accused the Tamil Nadu government regarding this matter.

The Union Health Ministry said that the ongoing controversy over the death of 20 children in Madhya Pradesh due to consumption of cough syrup is not a matter of assigning blame between the Center and the Tamil Nadu government, but first of all it is a matter of accountability. Despite clear recommendations from the Center for Food and Drug Administration, Tamil Nadu has failed to take action in this matter.

Union Health Ministry accuses Tamil Nadu government

Sources in the Health Ministry have said that this matter is not at all a blame game between the Central Government and the Tamil Nadu Government. The only question is, why has the FDA of Tamil Nadu not taken any action in this matter till now? Why did they not file criminal charges despite the recommendations made by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO)? Also, why was the license not canceled despite clear instructions from DCGI?

Tamil Nadu Drug Control Department presented 26 page report

This statement from the Health Ministry comes after the Drug Control Department of Tamil Nadu presented a 26-page report, in which it has been made clear that Shreson Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer of Coldrif, committed more than 350 violations. The report also revealed lack of cleanliness in the company, rusty equipment and illegal use of non-pharma grade chemicals.

CDSCO issued instructions to all states and union territories

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has taken a major step after the death of children allegedly due to spoiled cough medicine in Madhya Pradesh. On behalf of the country’s top drug regulator, Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) Rajiv Singh Raghuvanshi issued strict instructions to the drug controllers of all states and union territories. He directed that every batch of raw material and finished product should be compulsorily tested before manufacturing or selling any medicine.
