Senior party leader Tariq Anwar has answered the question of when Congress will release the list of its candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections. Central Election Committee had held a meeting
Earlier, top Congress leaders discussed the names of possible candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections in the party’s Central Election Committee meeting on Tuesday (October 14, 2025). Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, All India Congress Committee Organization General Secretary K.C. Venugopal and party treasurer Ajay Maken were present in the meeting. Rahul Gandhi attended the Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting digitally. Sources said that the party discussed the names of more than 50 candidates for the assembly seats on which the party can contest the elections.

Congress likely to get less seats this time

Those present at the meeting included CEC members Ambika Soni, Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, Salman Khurshid, TS Singhdev, KJ George, Ami Yagnik and PL Poonia. AICC in-charge for Bihar Krishna Allavaru, Congress Bihar unit chief Rajesh Ram and Shakeel Ahmed Khan were also present during the CEC meeting. Senior party leaders held a last-minute discussion on seat sharing with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday. Assembly elections in Bihar will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11. Counting of votes will take place on November 14.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a tough stand on the use of derogatory words towards his mother during the Congress-RJD’s voter rights rally held in Darbhanga, Bihar. He said that such a situation could not be imagined in a state with a rich cultural tradition like Bihar, where the honor of the mother was hurt. PM Modi called it not only a personal insult but an attack on the honor of the mothers, sisters and daughters of the entire country.

The PM said, “Mother is the identity of our world and our culture. Whatever happened in Bihar, she not only hurt my heart, but also shook the heart of every citizen, every mother and daughter of Bihar. This insult is not only of my mother, but is an insult to every woman in India.” He expressed emotional connection in his message towards the people and said that this sorrow is equal in the hearts of him and the people of Bihar.

The controversy erupted when the Congress and RJD activists led by local Congress leaders Naushad used derogatory words against PM Modi and waved the party flags. However, the Congress has distanced itself from the vulgar language used in this incident and video.
