Following the success of Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army recently conducted a live firing drill of the indigenous Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launch System at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan. This is also being seen as a strong message of India’s military preparedness against Pakistan.

Why is it called ‘Pinaka’?

This rocket system has been named after the mythological bow of Lord Shiva ‘Pinaka’. Due to the multi-barrel design, this system is capable of firing multiple rockets simultaneously. DRDO has designed it, while companies like Tata Advanced Systems and Larsen & Toubro have developed it in public-private partnership model.

Ability to fire 72 rockets in 44 seconds

The specialty of Pinaka is its tremendous firing speed. It can launch 72 rockets in just 44 seconds, which are capable of hitting targets located approximately 60 kilometers away. Its upgraded version Pinaka MK-II ER can hit up to a range of 90 kilometers and a new version is being developed to hit a range of more than 150 kilometers.

speed so fast that it is difficult to stop

Pinaka rockets are equipped with GPS based guided system. According to experts, they can reach a speed of Mach 4.7 i.e. about 5,800 kilometers per hour, which makes them extremely difficult to intercept.

Know how much it costs

There are currently four Pinaka regiments deployed in the Indian Army and formation of six additional regiments is underway. In a war situation, the main function of Pinaka is to cause heavy damage to sensitive areas of the enemy in a short time. In January, the government had approved purchasing ammunition worth Rs 10,200 crore for the Pinaka system. India has already exported it to Armenia and a possible deal with France is also under discussion.

Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) on Thursday (September 11, 2025) has commissioned the first Swadeshi 3D-WASR-N with the help of technology transfer from Spain company Indra on the Indian Navy warship.

TASL has become the first Indian company to construct Advanced Naval 3D Air Surveillance radar. This achievement is considered an important link in search of India’s defense self -sufficiency. This system has been assembled and integrated locally.

After marine tests included

The radar has been easily integrated with all the systems of this Indian Navy warship. Before the inclusion of this radar, it has been passed into comprehensive sea trials, where its capacity was deployed to test the performance in a range of radar cross-sections for its capacity.

Regarding this, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) also issued a press release, in which the company’s CEO and Managing Director, Sukarna Singh said, ‘Our cooperation with Indra reflects our commitment to strengthen radar manufacturing capabilities in India. Through on-ground coordination, technical expertise and strong supply chain, we are creating a strong ecosystem for advanced defense techniques.

Radar factory set up in Bengaluru

At the same time, Indra Naval Business Head, Ana Buinida said, ‘This project goes beyond the delivery and deployment of radar only. This helped us set up a radar factory in Bengaluru in India, which can provide more efficiency and close services to the customer.

The release said that Tata Advanced Systems Limited is a Tata group company that makes aerial and defense -related technology in India. The company produces airplane structures, their engines and army -used systems, such as safety equipment and vehicles. This company works closely with the world’s big defense companies and sometimes supplies them alone alone.

Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), European Aviation Company Airbus and Tata Group’s Aerospace Branch, will...

Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), European Aviation Company Airbus and Tata Group’s Aerospace Branch, will jointly establish the final assembly line of H125 helicopters for the Indian Air Force (IAF) (Final Assembly Line – Fal) in Kolar district of Karnataka. The Economic Times has given this information quoting people aware of this matter as saying. This will be India’s first private sector helicopter assembly unit and will strengthen the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Government of India. Its purpose is to achieve self -sufficiency in aerospace construction.

Promoting Make in India

This unit will manufacture the best -selling civil category H125 helicopter in Airbus. France, America and Brazil, will be the fourth such plant in the world. Initially, the plant will work with the production capacity of 10 helicopters annually. But will be expanded in the coming years as Airbus has estimated the demand of 500 light helicopters in India and South Asia in the next 20 years.

The plant will be built in the Vamgal Industrial Area, about two hours from Bangalore, where already other TASL plants such as satellite construction units are located. Tata has recently acquired a 7.4 lakh sqft plot in the Vamgal Industrial Area, where aircraft construction, final assembly and MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhal) will be set up.

New job opportunities will be created

AEQUS chairman and CEO Arvind Meligori said that this initiative will work as a catalyst for strengthening the country’s indigenous manufacturing capacity as well as the development of advanced industrial clusters. He said that such projects generate skill development, investment in supply chains, and high -value employment, making India a strategic and competitive aerospace manufacturing center globally.

Apart from this, Tata and Airbus are also setting up assembly lines of C295 aircraft in Vadodara, Gujarat. Gujarat has recently received several major investment projects, including semiconductor plant, C295 aircraft construction, and International Diamond Bores. For this reason, opposition parties have also accused the central government of giving preference to Gujarat.
