The government has made a big announcement regarding the New Income Tax Law in Budget 2026, the objective of which is to simplify and rationalize the tax process. The center of this change is the New Tax Regime, which will be further strengthened as a default option from 1 April 2026.

The government will notify new ITR forms, which will be simpler, digital and paperless than before. Pre-filled data will be available in these forms, which will provide relief to taxpayers from manual entry and paperwork.

Automated system under digital focus will make return filing easier and errors will be reduced. In the new law, the updated return filing process has also been simplified, so that the mistake or loss adjustment made in the previous filing can be easily corrected.
