Indian Mujahideen Terrorist Case: The Delhi High Court gave an important verdict, which is expected to speed up high-profile terrorist cases. The court has said that four big accused of Indian Mujahideen (IM) should be produced in courts across the country through video conferencing. These include Yasin Bhatkal, the co-founder of the organization.

Hearing the petition of these accused, the court admitted that the cases were delayed, but it is also necessary that there is no unnecessary pressure on security and resources. Justice Sanjeev Narula said that until a court finds his personal presence necessary for special reason, then video conferencing should be produced.

Why did this demand arise after all?

Terrorists Asadullah Akhtar, Jia-ur-Rahman, Tehsin Akhtar and Yasin Bhatkal are currently lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi. His lawyers said in the court that the hearing is being postponed repeatedly, because the accused are not being brought to the court. Due to this, not only their case, but also the cases of co-accused are stuck.

On behalf of the NIA, it was told in the Delhi High Court that all these accused are high-risk prisoners. Their safety costs huge and many agencies have to be planted. In such a situation, video link is the most practical way. The court admitted that concerns about the delay in the petitioners’ trial are valid, but also said that there should be no unnecessary misuse of security, logistics and resources.

Shock in Telangana High Court

These four accused had also demanded the transfer from Tihar Jail in Delhi to Hyderabad jail, as the appeal against their death sentence was pending in Telangana High Court. However, on 8 April 2025, the Telangana High Court rejected his appeal, keeping his death sentence in the Dilsukhnagar blasts of 2013, which continued his sentence.

Clear instructions of Delhi HC Court

The court has directed the Tihar Jail Administration to make all the necessary arrangements for video conferencing and prosecution should ensure that the proceedings are not interrupted due to the absence of the accused in a hearing.

Serious allegations in NIA FIR

In the 2012 FIR in 2012, the NIA accused other IM members, including these four, of plotting bomb blasts in major cities of the country and seeking help from Pakistan -based colleagues. Yasin Bhatkal and Asadullah Akhtar were arrested on 29 August 2013, while Tehsin Akhtar and Rahman were arrested on 5 May 2014. All this is serious of waging war against the Government of India.
