Along with the encounter between militants and security forces in Akhl-Devsar area of Kulgam district of South Kashmir, a widespread siege and search operation continues for the seventh day. On Wednesday (6 August 2025), after heavy firing overnight, there was a tense silence throughout the day. After a group of 4-5 terrorists got caught in the forest area, the security forces have not achieved much success till now. So far only one terrorist has been killed in this campaign, while 4 army personnel have been injured so far.

Officials said heavy firing took place throughout the night as the security forces had strengthened their hold on the area to chase the hidden terrorists. Sources said, “The firing stopped on Wednesday morning, but the campaign is still active. A comprehensive search operation is going on.”

Officials assured
Security forces, including Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel and Para Commandos, are strictly siege to the entire area so that there is no way left for the terrorists to escape. Drone and other monitoring equipment are being used to monitor the movement inside the encounter area, while additional forces have been deployed to close all possible entry and exit routes. Officials assured that all possible steps are being taken to ensure safety of citizens and reduce other possible damage.

The exact number of terrorists is not disclosed
One of the longest campaigns in Kulgam in recent times, this campaign started last week after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists in Akhhal Devsar region. Although the authorities have not disclosed the exact number of trapped terrorists, sources say that many armed people are hiding in the area. Police officials said that after the campaign is over, the identity of the terrorist and other details related to it will be shared.

The siege will continue for 2-3 days
A senior official said, “Our priority is to save security forces and citizens from casualties, reducing the threat.” Officials said that the siege will continue for at least 2-3 days with entering the important phase of the campaign, until the area is completely freed from the presence of terrorists.
