World Shortest Cricketer In Cricket History: While tall bowlers have left their mark in the history of cricket, short batsmen have also dominated. In the history of this game, there have been many great cricketers who, despite being short in height, have left a big mark on the field with their play. These players proved that real height in cricket is achieved by skill, courage and hard work and not by height and strength. Here we are going to tell you about the 5 shortest height cricketers, who have made a mark in world cricket despite their short height. Know which players are included in the list?

5 shortest height cricketers in the world

Gundappa Vishwanath – 5 feet 3 inches

Gundappa Vishwanath, one of India’s greatest batsmen, has a height of 5 feet 3 inches. Vishwanath is the fifth lowest height player in the history of cricket. He scored more than 6,000 runs in his 91 Test match career and has led India to victory in many matches.

Mushfiqur Rahim – 5 feet 3 inches

The height of Bangladesh wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim is 5 feet 3 inches. Mushfiqur is the fourth lowest height player in the history of cricket. As a wicket-keeper batsman, Rahim scored more than 12,500 runs in all three formats and has also led Bangladesh to victory in many matches.

Titch Freeman – 5 feet 2 inches

The height of former England player Titch Freeman is 5 feet 2 inches. Freeman is the third shortest player in the history of cricket. This leg spinner bowler took 66 wickets in just 12 Tests in the 1920s. In the year 1928, Freeman alone made such a record by taking 304 wickets, which is considered impossible even today.

Titch Cornford – 5 Feet

The height of former England wicketkeeper batsman Titch Cornford is 5 feet. Cornford is also the second lowest height player in the history of cricket. He has played only 4 Tests and is also considered the youngest player to play for England. Even though his international innings was short, his record in domestic cricket was excellent.

Kruger Van Wyk – 4 feet 9 inches

The height of former New Zealand wicketkeeper batsman Kruger Van Wyk is 4 feet 9 inches. Kruger is one of the shortest players in the history of cricket. Born in South Africa and played international cricket for New Zealand and scored 341 runs in only 9 test matches.

Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir is under tremendous pressure due to continuous failures in Test cricket. Defeat against Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, draw with England and win only against West Indies, this whole sequence has raised many questions on his coaching tenure. Now former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has also openly given his opinion on the same issue and his comment has further heated up the atmosphere.

Ravi Shastri broke his silence

In a podcast interview, when Shastri was asked a question on Gambhir’s performance, instead of giving any kind of defense, he said clearly, “I am not protecting him. 100 percent responsibility is also on the coach. If something like this had happened during my time, I would have taken responsibility first. After that, I would not have left the players in the team meeting either.”

His statement is important because the performance of the batsmen has emerged as the biggest problem in India’s recent Test defeat.

Shastri angry over test defeat against South Africa

Shastri also expressed his anger over India’s surprising batting in the Guwahati Test and made strong remarks. There too, India was suddenly reduced from 100/1 to 130/7, and this fall became the reason for losing the match. Shastri said, “This team is not so bad that such a decline happens suddenly. The players also have to understand their responsibilities. These are the same batsmen who have been playing spin since childhood, then why such a problem?”

His statement made it clear that the issue is not just about coaching, but also about the mentality and shot selection of the players.

BCCI suddenly called a meeting with Gambhir-Agarkar

Amidst Ravi Shastri’s statement, news came that BCCI has called an important meeting in which,

Head Coach Gautam Gambhir

Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar

Some big officials of BCCI

This meeting is considered very important due to the continuously falling performance of the Test team and questions being raised on some decisions of the team management.

Kohli made a explosive start in the ODI series against South Africa. After the match, the Indian legend himself has finally put an end to that question, which was being asked continuously for some time. Will he make a comeback in Test cricket?

After playing a brilliant inning of 135 runs in the first ODI and becoming the man of the match, Kohli clearly said that at the moment he is focusing only on the ODI format. “It is going to remain like this, I am playing only one format,” this statement of Kohli makes his future plans very clear.

Kohli cleared his stand

In the first match played in Ranchi, Kohli scored his 52nd ODI century by scoring 135 runs in 102 balls. With this he once again told that he is still the king of the white ball. His innings put India in a strong position and gave the team an easy victory. In the post-match presentation, when he was asked a question about his comeback in Test cricket, Kohli clearly said without hesitation that he now understands the needs of his body and mind and it is not possible for him to play more than one format at this time.

Pause on recent reports

Recently there were reports that BCCI is planning to bring back some experienced players in the Test team, in which Kohli’s name was also said to be included. However, his statement has put a complete stop to all these discussions.

At the age of 37, Kohli admits that recovery is not what it used to be. He told that he took complete rest a day before the match so that his energy remained intact. He said that his biggest preparation is mental. “As long as the mind is sharp and the body is fit, the game seems easy.”

‘Experience is the biggest weapon’-Kohli

Kohli said that the pitch seemed easy in the beginning, but later it became slow. In such a situation, wisdom, shot selection and experience were most useful. He also said that he does not rely on practice, but believes in his mental strength and passion for the game.

It is clear that Virat Kohli’s focus is clear now. He will give his full strength in ODI cricket and at present is not planning to return to Test cricket. His fitness, passion and experience are still a big contribution to Team India.

The debate regarding the period of change in India’s Test team is continuously increasing. After the arrival of head coach Gautam Gambhir, Team India’s performance in white ball cricket has been very strong. Whereas in the red ball format the situation seems opposite. The embarrassing 0-2 home Test series defeat against South Africa has raised many questions. Were Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and R Ashwin dropped from the team so soon? Could the results have been different had he been there?

Amidst this debate, R Ashwin created a new controversy by giving a statement on his YouTube channel. Ashwin said that if he, Kohli and Rohit had been given time and clarity, these players could have made the transition in the team easier.

Ashwin’s statement

Ashwin believes that no clear plan was given by the team management and selectors regarding the future. For this reason the players themselves had to take difficult decisions. Ashwin said, “There should be a clear path for transition. When there is no clarity, the decision has to be taken on one’s own. Virat could groom the players, Rohit could do it, I too could do it. Sharing the experience with the players has been our strength.”

Fans also believe that if Rohit and Kohli were in the team, the performance against South Africa might have been better. However, Team India’s great batsman Sunil Gavaskar does not completely agree with this.

Gavaskar’s strong counterattack

Sunil Gavaskar said that the decision of retirement was the players’ own. It is wrong to say that if he had been in the team, India would not have lost the series. He reminded that even when these three players were there, the team had suffered many big defeats. During a conversation with Aaj Tak, Gavaskar said, “The decision to take retirement was his own. It is not correct to say that we would have won had he been there. Earlier also we had lost against Australia by 0-3, when he was the same player. Therefore, it is wrong to think that he was dropped or his presence would have changed the result.”

It would not be wrong if Test cricket is called the biggest platform for patience,...

It would not be wrong if Test cricket is called the biggest platform for patience, concentration and technique. Here the goal is not only to score runs, but it is equally important to put the team in a strong position by staying at the crease for a long time. An example of this patience are the slowest centuries scored in Test cricket, which are still remembered with different respect in the history of cricket.

Mudassar Nazar – Pakistan

At the top of this list is Pakistan’s Mudassar Nazar, who completed his century in 557 minutes against England in Lahore in 1977-78. This was not just slow batting, but a great example of saving the team in difficult situations. This innings of his is still considered to be the slowest century in Test history.

Jackie McGlue – South Africa

At second place is Jackie McGlue of South Africa, who scored a century in 545 minutes against Australia in Durban in 1957-58. In that era, bowling was very challenging and the pitches were also not very helpful for the batsmen. In such an environment, this innings of McGlue was very popular.

Asanka Gurusingha – Sri Lanka

At third place comes Asanka Gurusingha of Sri Lanka, who completed his century in 535 minutes against Zimbabwe in Harare in 1994-95. This innings was extremely strategic, as Sri Lanka’s priority in that match was to avoid defeat, and Gurusingha spent his time playing accordingly.

Jeff Crowe – New Zealand

Jeff Crowe of New Zealand scored a century in 516 minutes against Sri Lanka in the Colombo Test in 1986–87. This innings shows how a calm mind and correct technique can keep the bowlers troubled for a long time.

Sanjay Manjrekar – India

India’s Sanjay Manjrekar completed his century by playing a 500-minute blockathon innings in Harare in 1992-93. Despite the difficult pitch, slow outfield and tight bowling attack, this century of Manjrekar is counted among the classic innings of Indian cricket.

2 greats of England also in the list

England’s Peter Richardson (488 minutes, 1956-57) and Keith Fletcher (458 minutes, 1974) also have a place in this record list. Both of them played slow innings in such matches, where the team’s aim was to stay at the crease more than to score runs.

In 2017, Simon Harmer signed the ‘Kolpak Deal’ to play for the English county team...

In 2017, Simon Harmer signed the ‘Kolpak Deal’ to play for the English county team Essex. Harmer had given up hope of playing Test cricket for South Africa. This off-spinner played for the first time in India with the South African team that toured India in 2015, but he had an average performance in this series. After which his chances of playing another Test match in India were almost over. However, Harmer has performed brilliantly on the current tour of India, playing an important role in helping the South African team achieve a historic 2-0 win in the two-match series.

What did Simon say about playing after 2015?

After registering a big win of 408 runs in the Guwahati Test against India, Simon Harmer said on Wednesday, ‘I never thought that I would get another chance in international cricket and I also never thought that I would come to India to play again. To be here, to win the series 2-0 and to be named player of the series, it is very special. I think it will take some time to understand and assimilate it and this is a very special victory for us.

Statement given on the historic victory in India

Simon Harmer said in response to a question asked by ‘PTI’, ‘Yes, I think when I signed the Kolpak deal, one of the conditions was that I would never be able to play for my country again, so I had accepted this fact.’

Harmer, who won the ‘Player of the Series’ award by taking 17 wickets in two Test matches in India, was expecting an excellent performance from himself on this tour. He said, ‘I always wanted to be able to look back at the end of my career and say that I was the best for myself.

India Vs South Africa 2nd Test Match: The South African cricket team that toured India has performed brilliantly in Test cricket. By taking a 1-0 lead in the Test series, the South African team has brought itself closer to winning the series. While the players have received a lot of applause for their excellent performance, a statement by team coach Shukri Conrad has become a bone of contention, due to which he is being reprimanded. On the fourth day of the second Test match in Guwahati, the South African coach used a word for the Indian team which has a controversial history in cricket. After this statement, he was reprimanded by Indian legend Anil Kumble and former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn.

South African coach gave controversial statement

On the fourth day of the second Test match being played between India and South Africa, South Africa declared its second innings at 260 runs and gave a target of 549 runs to Team India. After the end of the day’s play, when South African coach Conrad was asked in the press conference why he delayed declaring the innings, he gave a controversial statement in response. Conrad said that he wanted to tire Team India and see them crawling on their knees. For which he used the English word ‘Grovel’.

The South African coach’s use of the word ‘grovel’ became the real cause of controversy because during the West Indies tour in 1976, England captain Tony Greig had used this word for the West Indies team, which means lying face down on the ground or crawling on the knees. There was a lot of uproar on this matter then.

Anil Kumble and Dale Steyn reprimanded

The use of this word in cricket after 49 years has created controversy and Conrad is facing criticism. Before the start of the fifth day’s play, Indian veteran spinner Anil Kumble advised the South African coach not to be arrogant and to remain humble.

Kumble said in the Star Sports show, “There is history associated with this word. 50 years ago the England captain said this in the West Indies and we saw what happened. South Africa has probably won this series but when you are at the top, the choice of your words is important. At such times, humility is most important.”

At the same time, former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn also appeared unhappy with the coach’s statement and clearly said that he is not in support of it. Stan also said in the same show, “I am not in support of it. His style was probably not as tough as Tony Greig. But that does not matter. You cannot use such words. It is very disappointing.”

Slowest Test Century In Test Cricket History: Test cricket started 148 years ago i.e. in 1877 and the first test match was played between Australia and England. In the beginning of this format, very low scores and slow runs were common. In modern day cricket, big totals and high run rates are seen and results are also seen in most of the matches.

The name of former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar is also present in the list of batsmen who have scored the slowest century in Test cricket. Here we will tell you about 7 batsmen who have scored the slowest centuries in the history of Test cricket.

7 batsmen who scored the slowest century in test

1. Mudassar Nazar – 557 minutes

Triple Century In Test & Double Hundred In ODIs: In the history of international cricket, many fearsome batsmen have come and gone, but there have been only a few batsmen who have registered their names in the pages of history. In international cricket, very few batsmen have been able to create fear among the bowlers, among which the names of former Indian opener Virender Sehwag and former West Indies opener Chris Gayle come on top. They scored a lot of runs with their batting in all three formats and both were successful in achieving a feat which no batsman has been able to do till date.

Virender Sehwag made a big record

India’s explosive former opening batsman Virender Sehwag is the first player in the history of international cricket to score two triple centuries in Tests and a double century in ODIs. Sehwag had created history by scoring the first triple century against Pakistan while the second triple century was scored in the match played with South Africa. In the year 2004, he played an inning of 309 runs in Multan. In the year 2008, he set a new record by scoring 319 runs against South Africa in Chennai. Sehwag has a total of 8,586 runs in his name in 104 Test matches, in which his average was 49.34 and the best score is 319 runs.

In One Day International, Sehwag scored a double century on 8 December 2011 in the match played against West Indies at Holkar Stadium, Indore. Sehwag had scored 219 runs in 149 balls with the help of 25 fours and 7 sixes. He scored a total of 8,273 runs in 251 ODI matches, in which he has 15 centuries and 38 half-centuries.

Chris Gayle also made a great record

In the history of international cricket, the second player in the world to score two triple centuries in Tests and one double century in ODIs is former West Indies star opener Chris Gayle. Gayle had made this great record against South Africa and Sri Lanka. Chris Gayle had scored 317 runs against South Africa in 2005, while in 2010 he had scored 333 runs against Sri Lanka in Galle.

Chris Gayle played an inning of 215 runs during the 2015 ODI World Cup against Zimbabwe in Canberra. He played this historic innings with the help of 10 fours and 16 sixes in 147 balls. Gayle scored a total of 10,480 runs in 301 ODI matches, in which he has 25 centuries and 54 half-centuries.
