Longest Test Match: Test cricket has always been called a “game of patience”, but do you know that sometimes this patience lasts even for 10 days? South Africa v England – 10 days (Durban, 1939)

The longest match in Test history was played between South Africa and England on 3 March 1939 in Durban. This match lasted for 10 days and still ended in a draw. Actually, this was a “timeless test”, that is, there was no fixed date for the end of the match. This match was going to continue till the result was declared, but the English team had to catch a plane to return home. Therefore the match had to be abandoned midway.

West Indies v England – 9 days (Kingston, 1930)

Earlier, in the Test played between West Indies and England on 3 April 1930, the battle of ball and bat lasted for 9 days. Both the teams scored like mountains, but so much time passed that no result could be found in the match. This match became the most talked about match of that era.

Australia v England – 8 days (Melbourne, 1929)

In this match played in Melbourne on 8 March 1929, Australia defeated England after an 8-day battle. At that time, there were many great players in the England team, but Australia’s batsmen performed brilliantly and achieved this historic victory.

Australia v England – 7 days (Sydney, 1912 & 1924)

There were two such matches between England and Australia on Sydney soil which lasted for 7-7 days. England had won the match played in the year 1912. Whereas in 1924, Australia made a brilliant comeback and won the match.

Eng vs Aus Lord Test: Lord’s Cricket Ground is called “Mecca of Cricket”, but in the year 1888 this field became the graveyard of batsmen. Yes, in that historic Test match, 27 wickets fell within just four hours. The match played between England and Australia is considered one of the most unique and scary Test matches in cricket history.

Lords became ‘horror show’ for batsmen

The match was played on 16 and 17 July 1888. Looking at the first day’s game, it seemed that the pitch is a bit difficult, but no one thought that the next day it would cause such havoc. On the first day, Australia’s team collapsed for 116 runs. The England team ended the day with 18 runs for 3 wickets. On the first day of the match, 13 wickets fell on this pitch.

As soon as the sun on the second day came out, Lord’s pitch began to wave like a serpent. England’s team was reduced to 53 runs. The ball was moving so much that the batsmen could not understand whether the ball was going in or outside. The bowlers used both air and surface.

Australia did not even survive, England’s condition worse

After taking a 63 -run lead in the first innings, when Australia came out to bat for the second time, he felt that he would give a big goal to England, but there the situation there, the whole team is only 60 runs. England bowlers bowled tremendously and put a series of wickets.

Now England needed only 124 runs to win. It seemed easy to hear, but Lord’s pitch once again cheated everyone. England’s second innings ended for 62 runs, that is, even half of the target could not be made.

The result of this match came in two days. This is one of the select Test matches that ended in less than 48 hours. A total of 40 wickets fell in this historic match and the two teams scored just 291 runs.

This was the first match of the five -match Test series between England and Australia. England were on tour in 1928, Australia. The match was played between the two teams in Brisbane. England declared the innings by scoring 342 runs in the second innings. Phil Mid scored 73, Douglas Jardin scored 65 runs for England. Clary Grimate took 6 wickets for Australia. In this way, England set a target of 742 runs in front of Australia.

Chasing the target, the Australian team was reduced to just 66 runs. England won the match by a big margin of 675 runs. Jack White took the most wickets from England. Jack took four wickets.
