The long-running border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia has once again turned violent. According to CNN report, on Monday (8 December 2025) morning, Thailand carried out an airstrike on a casino building in Cambodia with an F-16 fighter jet. The Thai Army alleges that this casino had now become a secret base for Cambodian soldiers. Heavy weapons, drones and ammunition were being stored here. Cambodia had started provocative movements in the border areas.

Amidst the ongoing tension between Thailand and Cambodia, US President Donald Trump said, “I ended 8 wars in 10 months, including Israel, Iran, Egypt-Ethiopia, Armenia-Azerbaijan, Kosovo-Serbia, Pakistan and India. They were fighting. I am sad to say this. Once again the war has started again between Cambodia and Thailand. Tomorrow I have to make a phone call. We are going to stop the war between powerful countries, Thailand and Cambodia.

Thai Army claims the casino had become a military base

Thai military officials have alleged that this casino located near the border was now being used as a secret military center. According to Thailand, a stockpile of heavy weapons was being collected in the casino complex. Drones and ammunition were stored. Cambodian soldiers were carrying out suspicious activities in the border area. Citing these reasons, Thailand called it a security-based action.

5 people died in firing

The firing from both sides of the border worsened the situation. So far, 4 Cambodian civilians have died, 1 Thai soldier has lost his life and many people are said to be injured. In May 2025 also, there was a conflict between the two armies for 5 days, in which more than 30 people died.

The peace agreement signed two months ago also faltered

In October 2025, in the presence of US President Donald Trump, both the countries had agreed to a ceasefire agreement. This peaceful period could not last long and within two months the situation again became explosive.

Thailand recently took military action using F-16 fighter jets on disputed military bases in Cambodia. The step was taken when the Thai area was attacked with heavy firing and rocket. Thai Army Deputy Spokesperson Richa Suxuvanan clearly stated that we launched aircraft at military bases as per the plan. During this period, one of the six F-16 aircraft destroyed a military hideout in the Cambodian region. At the same time, Thailand has claimed that 9 people died during the ongoing struggle with Cambodia.

This is not the first time that military tension between the two countries has increased, but this time the response appears more aggressive and planned. The Thai Army claims that this action has been taken into self -defense, while Cambodia called it a cruel and barbaric military attack.

Preh Vihar Temple and historical controversy
This dispute is not new. This tension between the two countries has been going on for decades with the 12th century famous Hindu temple Preh Vihar. In 1962, the International Court of Court (ICJ) declared this temple a part of Cambodia, but some nationalist groups in Thailand still challenge it today. The temple not only has historical significance, but is also associated with Cambodian nationality and religious sentiments. There have been frequent military clashes in this area. Earlier, there was a fight again in the year 2008, 2011 and now 2025.

This time, not only military hideouts but also civil areas were affected in the attacks. According to Thailand, Cambodian soldiers have targeted a military base and hospital on the border. The issue of landmines has also emerged in this struggle. Thailand claims that its recently built landmines injured his soldiers, while Cambodia says it was an explosion of old tunnels.
