Complete ban on vaping and e-cigarettes

The Thai government has completely banned e-cigarettes since 2014. This decision was taken mainly for the purpose of public health and protecting the youth from drug addiction. Since then, there has been no relaxation in this law, rather its strictness has been increased further in 2026. In Thailand, not only is it a crime to use e-cigarettes, but it is also illegal to bring, possess or sell them within the country.

This ban of Thailand is not limited to e-cigarettes only, but all devices related to vaping come under its scope. There is a complete ban on vaping devices, e-liquids and even their chargers or other accessories. Many times foreign tourists assume that keeping a small device with them will not be a big deal, but the police there consider it a serious crime. These things are prohibited everywhere from airport to hotel.

Police raids in public places

There is also a provision for heavy fine

The fine if caught is so high that your entire trip budget can be ruined. Normally, if caught, a fine of 40,000 Thai Baht i.e. about Rs 1 lakh or more in Indian currency can be imposed. In some serious cases, a fine up to four times the total value of the seized device is charged. Many times, after being taken to the police station and interrogated, there is a provision to release the person immediately only after paying a heavy fine.

Fear of five years jail sentence

Ignoring vaping laws in Thailand can land you in jail. If caught for the first time, tourists are given strict threats of jail and legal proceedings are initiated. At the same time, if someone is found committing this crime again or the seriousness of the case is more, then the culprit may have to face a jail sentence of up to 5 years. The provisions of punishment in the laws here are so strict that tourists often get badly trapped in the legal net.
