Kamasundari Devi, the last queen of the Darbhanga royal family, died on Monday (January 12, 2026). He breathed his last at the age of 96. Due to his demise, there has been a wave of mourning in the entire Mithila region. Her husband Maharaja Kameshwar Singh has already passed away.

Queen Kamasundari Devi was ill for a long time. She was on the bed only. On Monday, he breathed his last at Kalyani Niwas located in the Raj Complex. As soon as people came to know, a crowd gathered for the last darshan. According to family members, the mortal remains of the Queen have been kept at her residence, where the people of Mithilanchal are paying their last respects.

Elder grandson Kumar Ratneshwar will light the funeral pyre.

It is said that the Queen’s funeral will take place after all the family members arrive. His last rites will be performed at Madheshwar Campus, Shyama Mai Campus, where his funeral pyre will be lit by his elder grandson Kumar Ratneshwar Singh.

Kamasundari Devi was the third wife of Maharaja Kameshwar Singh.

Maharani Kamasundari Devi was the third and last wife of Kameshwar Singh, the last Maharaja of Darbhanga. Both of them were married in the 1940s. The Maharaja’s first two wives, Maharani Rajalakshmi and Maharani Kameshwari Priya, have already passed away. With the demise of the last queen of the Darbhanga royal family, not only the royal family but the entire Mithila region has lost an era.

Maharani Kamasundari Devi had established the Maharajadhiraj Kameshwar Singh Kalyani Foundation in the memory of her husband. Through this, many works of education, health and social service were carried out.

The Queen’s grandson Kumar Ratneshwar Singh said, “The Queen breathed her last this morning. Preparations are underway for her funeral. After all the family members arrive, her last rites will be performed at the Madheshwar complex.”
