From January 14, passengers are going to get direct discount on ticket booking.

This discount is not in the form of cashback but will be a direct discount on the ticket price. 3 percent discount will be available on RailOne app

Railways has decided that from January 14 to July 14, 2026, a discount of 3 percent will be given on booking unreserved tickets through the RailOne app. This discount will be available when the passenger uses any digital payment mode. Till now, only 3 percent cashback was available on payment through R-Wallet on RailOne app.

But in the new system, now you will get direct discount even on payment through UPI, debit card or other digital options. The aim of Railways is to bring more and more people towards digital booking. Officials have made it clear that this facility will be limited to RailOne app only and will not be applicable on any platform.

How to book unreserved ticket from RailOne app?

It is very easy to book tickets through RailOne app. First of all download RailOne app in your mobile and login with IRCTC or UTS ID. After login, select the option of unreserved ticket or UTS on the home screen. After this select the starting station and destination station.

Now select the ticket type and category and fill the details of the passengers. After checking all the details, tap on Book Ticket. Use R-Wallet or any digital payment option for payment. Out of these, some tickets get confirmed and some go in the waiting list, so earlier the rule was that if some tickets on the same PNR were confirmed and some were in waiting, then everyone could board the train. Waitlisted passengers may not be able to get a seat, but could travel in the train and the TTE would not deboard them. But now Railways has changed the rules.

What are the new rules for those with waiting tickets?

Now Railways has made it clear that only those passengers whose ticket is confirmed can travel in the train. Waiting list passengers cannot board sleeper or AC coaches. If your ticket status is still waiting even after charting, you cannot travel in that coach. If you board the train without a confirmed ticket, TTE can deboard you from the train and fine or legal action can also be taken.

What to do if 3 out of 5 tickets are confirmed?

If there are 5 people in your family and after ticket booking, 3 tickets are confirmed and 2 are left in waiting list, then waiting list passengers, if the ticket is converted to RAC, then you can board the train. RAC means that your seat will be shared with someone. If the ticket is still waiting after chart preparation, then you cannot board the train directly. Apart from this, you can buy general tickets by going to the station. You can book general tickets from UTS app. Boarding the train without a ticket or waiting ticket is against the rules and TTE can take action.

IRCTC and waiting ticket

If you book a ticket online and it is not confirmed, then IRCTC auto-cancels that ticket and refunds the money. This means that you do not need to cancel the ticket yourself. If a passenger in the train cancels the journey and the seat becomes vacant, then TTE can give the seat to a waiting passenger.

From 1 October 2025 i.e. from today, Indian Railways has made a big change in online ticket booking. Now, like Tatkal ticket, it will be mandatory to do Aadhaar verification for booking General Reservation Ticket. Indian Railways has also made a big change in counter booking regarding ticket booking. Aadhaar verification and OTP verification will now be mandatory for passengers booking tickets from the PRS counter of the railway station. How to link Aadhaar from IRCTC account?

1. To link Aadhaar with IRCTC account, first you have to login on the IRCTC website.

4. After filling the Aadhaar number and name, you will have to enter the OTP on the mobile number and click on the submit.
