However, during the Kargil War, when India recovered his body in Tiger Hill (Dras Sector), Pakistan not only refused to accept his identity, but also believed that there were no soldiers of his ‘regular army’.

India revealed in 1999

On 15 July 1999, the press release issued by the Indian Embassy, ​​Washington, stated that Pakistan had completely rejected the participation of its army in the Kargil war. When India identified him on the basis of the documents found from Sher Khan’s body and contacted Pakistan, Pakistani officials first refused to accept it.

India offered to return the dead body, but Pakistan rejected

According to a TOI report, India contacted Pakistan on 12 July 1999 with the body of Pakistani soldier Captain Karilee Sher Khan, who was killed during the Kargil war. India had clearly stated that he wants to hand over this body to the Pakistan Army, but Pakistan refused it.

The press release issued by the Indian Embassy in Washington said, “It is clear that Pakistan is clear about the identity of these bodies, but it does not want to accept it as it will reveal his army involvement in Kargil.” The Indian Embassy further said, “By not accepting this truth, Pakistan is not only doing injustice to the families of its soldiers, but is also insulting the military traditions of the whole world.”

Pakistan did not accept the identity of soldiers

After refusing to contact India over the bodies of Pakistani soldiers killed during the Kargil War, Pakistan sought help from the international body Red Cross (ICRC). On 13 July 1999, the ICRC approached the Government of India and told that the Government of Pakistan wants India to hand over the bodies of the two officers to whom they have heard.

What did the Indian Embassy say?

The Indian Embassy said that Pakistan did not give information about the names and identity of the two officers killed in the request sent to ICRC, while they knew who they were. According to the embassy, ​​”Pakistan did not deliberately listen to the identity of the dead bodies because if they had accepted the identity of these officers, it would have been proved that the Pakistan Army was involved in Kargil.”
