The condition of Hyderabad -born Tilak Verma’s house was not very good. Father, Namburi Nagaraju used to work as an electrician by profession, and mother Gayatri Devi is a housewife. Since childhood, Tilak has been very fond of cricket. Namburi says that Tilak used to take his plastic bat along everywhere and sometimes he used to sleep with him.

Coach changed luck

At that time, financial problems were working to suppress Tilak’s dream of moving forward in cricket. This financial crisis came to an end when Salaam Bayash, a coach there, saw Tilak playing a tennis ball match in Barkas. He was very impressed by Tilak’s talent. Bayash asked why Tilak is not training in an academy. Tilak’s reply was that his family could not bear the cost of coaching.

Coach Bayash was so impressed with Tilak that he had decided to bear the entire expenses of the young batsman. After traveling 10 kilometers, Tilak used to reach Bayash, after which both of them would travel to the academy located 40 km away on the bike. Coach Bayash urged Tilak’s family to find a house near the academy. First parents did not agree, but later they agreed to Bayash.

12 hours training a day

In 2014, Tilak was elected to Hyderabad’s Under-14 team. He used to train 12 hours a day. He would come to the ground at 6 in the morning and return home after the sun settled. His hard work paid off, later he also achieved success in under-16 and under-19 cricket. In IPL 2022, Mumbai Indians bought him for Rs 1.7 crore thanks to a strong performance in domestic cricket.
