Australia defeated South Africa by 17 runs in the first match of the three -match T20 series on Sunday, thanks to Tim David’s brilliant batting and Josh Hazlewood and Ben Dvarsus’s deadly bowling. Batting first, Australia set a target of 179 runs in front of South Africa. In response, South Africa’s team could score only 161 runs.

South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first. African bowlers sent the top-3 batsmen of Australia to the pavilion in three overs. Mitchell Marsh 13, Travis Head 2 and Josh English were out without opening an account. After this, Tim David and Cameron Green handled the innings for a while.

Green added 40 runs for the fourth wicket with David. Green was dismissed for 35 runs in 13 balls. After this, Australia became in trouble again. Australia lost three wickets within 6 runs. Mitchell Oven 2 and Glenn Maxwell were dismissed for 1 run.

Hazelwood and Dwarashuis’s deadly bowling won Australia

The South African team started chasing the target of 179 runs. South Africa got the first blow in the first over as Aidan Markram. South Africa lost three wickets for 48 runs. After this, Ryan Ricelton (71) and Triston Stabs (37) together added 72 runs for the fourth wicket. At one time it seemed that South Africa would win this match easily. But the Australian bowlers made a tremendous comeback.

Josh Hazlewood and Ben Dwarashuis took three wickets each. At the same time, Adam Jampa took two wickets. Due to which Australia stopped South Africa for 161 runs in just 20 overs. Australia won the match by 17 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the series.

In response, Tim David expressed his displeasure by spreading his arms in protest. This act is considered unfair under the code of conduct.

Since this was the first crime of this Australian player in a period of 24 months, in addition to the fine, a demerit point has also been imposed on Tim David. The Australian batsman accepted the proposed punishment by the ICC International Panel match referee Ron King, which did not require a formal hearing.

The charge was officially leveled by the field umpire Zahid Basarath and Leslie Refer, Third Umpire Daitan Butler and Fourth Umpire Gregory Brathwaite. According to ICC rules, minimum punishment for level-1 violation is given one or two demerit marks with an official reprimand and maximum 50 percent match fee. If a player gets four or more demerit points in a period of 24 months, then he may be banned.
