After the end of West Bengal Assembly elections, political rhetoric has intensified. BJP has strongly attacked Trinamool Congress. Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said that as the elections progressed, the support and morale of Trinamool Congress decreased. He said that when the elections were completed peacefully without violence, the Trinamool Congress became restless. According to him, after the exit poll results, the balance of the party also appeared to be deteriorating and now they are raising questions on the election process itself.

Sudhanshu Trivedi also alleged that Trinamool Congress repeatedly approaches the court, but every time they do not get relief. He said that even today his petition was rejected. He also said that Trinamool does not trust the central government employees, while trust is expressed in the state employees. Referring to the raid related to IPAC, he said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself reached there during the raid, which raises the question that she does not trust her own system.

Public trust in Mamata Banerjee is low – Sudhanshu Trivedi

BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed that public trust in Mamata Banerjee has reduced. According to him, efforts to maintain power through fear and violence are now weakening. He also said that Trinamool Congress does not seem to have faith in the constitutional institutions, which raises political and moral questions. Let us tell you that two phases of voting were held in Bengal on 23 and 29 April. Its results will be released on Monday, May 4.

West Bengal Election 2026: TMC is targeting BJP before counting. Now one more name has been added in this connection. TMC Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra has lashed out. He has taken the people of Bengal to task for calling them Bangladeshi and Rohingya. Let us tell you that after the release of exit poll, the political temperature in the state has increased.

Mahua Moitra said that BJP’s professional MPs who create ruckus call us Bangladeshis and Rohingyas. While his wife accompanies him in the Bengal election campaign. She calls people and asks where they can get real Dhakai Jamdani sarees. This is the real face of BJP. TMC MP has given this statement while posting on X.

IPS Ajay Pal was targeted

There was an uproar before the final phase of voting over a statement by the TMC MP, who is always in the news. Then he released a video and targeted Ajay Pal Sharma, IPS of UP and posted in South 24 Parganas district. In this video, Ajay Pal was reportedly seen dancing among the dancers.

Then Moitra shared two videos on social media. During that time, a man is standing in front of the woman and clapping, while the woman is dancing. In the second video, a man was seen standing near a woman and dancing to a song. On this Moitra had said that fair and lovely babua Ajay Pal. Nice to see you having fun Fanta Cop style. Stay cool, cool, cool. Bengal is always Trinamool.

Apart from this, through a post he had said about IPS that my fair and lovely father Ajay Pal Sharma IPS, we are those people who can treat even your small fanta and big fanta from imprisonment. Do heroism with some caution.

The second and final phase of voting in the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 will be completed on Wednesday (29 April 2026). As soon as this phase ends, the fate of all the candidates in 4 states and one union territory will be sealed in EVMs. This last phase is considered very important in West Bengal, because with this the entire election process will end. Voting is taking place on 142 seats in the second phase. The atmosphere regarding elections is very heated in the entire state and political activities are intense in all the districts. A tough contest is being witnessed between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Both the parties are appealing to the voters at the last moment to vote as much as possible.

The eyes of the people of the country are fixed on the exit polls. According to the rules of the Election Commission, the results of the exit poll can be released only after 6:30 pm on Wednesday (April 29, 2026). These cannot be made public before this. According to Election Commission data, there was a record voting percentage of 93.2 percent in West Bengal in the first phase. 85.1 percent voting was recorded in Tamil Nadu. Voting has been completed on all 126 seats in Assam, where 85.5 percent people cast their votes. Voting took place on 140 seats in Kerala, where voting was recorded between 75 to 78 percent. 89.87 percent voting took place in Puducherry, which is the highest voting percentage there so far. Counting of votes in all these states and union territories will be done on May 4, after which the results will be known.

What is exit poll?

If we understand what an exit poll is in simple language, it is a kind of survey. In this, when people come out of the polling booth after voting, they are asked for whom they voted. Its purpose is to understand where the public is inclined, so that an estimate can be made before the official results. In this process, different survey agencies and media organizations deploy their people at some selected polling stations. As soon as a voter comes out, he is asked some questions. Then these answers are collected and analyzed based on the data. Through this, it is estimated how many votes a party can get and how many seats it can win.

The political atmosphere in Kolkata has intensified regarding the West Bengal Assembly elections. TMC candidate from Bidhannagar seat and state minister Sujit Bose is continuously busy campaigning. Voting on this seat is to be held on April 29. Sujit Bose is the current MLA here and has won four consecutive times. This time he is contesting against BJP’s Sharad Dutt Mukherjee.

During the election campaign, Sujit Bose fiercely targeted BJP. He said that SIR is a big scam and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also already spoken about it. He says that BJP is adopting every method to win the elections, but despite this it will not get success.

Sujit Bose also rejected BJP’s claim that Mamata Banerjee will not be in power after May 4. Sujit Bose said that there is no truth in this and it is just an attempt to confuse people. He described the heavy voting in the first phase in favor of TMC. According to him, this is a clear indication that Mamata Banerjee will return to power for the fourth time with a huge majority, because her government has worked and given priority to development. He said that development is the biggest issue of his party.

Sujit Bose replied

Sujit Bose also responded to the allegations being made against TMC. He said that his party people do not attack any BJP candidate. He alleged that BJP is spreading such things to mislead the public. He also reacted to the statement of BJP leaders in which it was said that after May 4, TMC goons will have no place to hide. On this Sujit Bose said that there is no goon in his place and this is just a baseless statement. He also said that BJP government is not going to be formed and in 2021 also BJP was making similar claims, which were not fulfilled.

Voting will be held on 152 seats in 16 districts on April 23 for the first phase of West Bengal Assembly elections. These include eight districts of North Bengal, three of South Bengal and 5 of Jangalmahal region. Voting during the first phase will start from 7 am, which will continue till 6 pm. However, in some sensitive areas the timings may be slightly changed due to security reasons (e.g. till 5 pm), but generally voting starts at 7 pm.

The first phase includes most of the districts of South and West Bengal. These include districts like Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, West Medinipur, East Medinipur and South 24 Parganas. Apart from this, voting will also be held on some seats of Kolkata and Howrah in this phase. There are many seats in these areas which are much discussed and are considered very important politically. Like Nandigram, Kharagpur, Purulia, Bankura and Jhargram. These seats usually see tough competition.

Why is the first phase of elections special?

The first phase is also considered special because it sets the tone for the entire election. The results here give an idea of which party can get the upper hand in the next stages. Especially a direct contest is seen between Trinamool Congress (TMC) and BJP. Apart from this, many areas falling in this phase are rural and tribal areas, where the voting pattern and issues are different from the rest of the cities. Therefore, the voting pattern here also appears different and this makes the elections interesting.

hot seat of west bengal

There are many seats in the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 which are most discussed and are being considered as hot seats. The credibility of big leaders is at stake on these seats and the competition is looking very tough. Bhawanipur seat is being discussed the most. This seat is considered very important because Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting elections from here. BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari is in front of him, due to which this contest has become direct and very interesting. This is being seen as a fight for power and prestige.

Panihati seat in headlines

Panihati seat is also in the headlines this time. This seat comes in North 24 Parganas district. This seat came into limelight after a recent major criminal case. BJP has fielded the victim’s mother Ratna Debnath here, while Tirthankar Ghosh is in the fray from TMC’s side. Because of this, elections here have become important at both emotional and political levels. Nandigram seat is also in the center once again. Earlier this area was considered to be the strong bastion of Mamata Banerjee, but now due to the challenge of Suvendu Adhikari, the competition has become very tough. Everyone’s eyes are on this seat. Many seats in Malda and Murshidabad districts are also special this time. The contest here is not direct but has become three-way, because Congress is also contesting the elections separately. Despite TMC’s dominance, the contest is considered interesting and uncertain.

Assembly Election 2026: This time in the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026, the contest has become very interesting not only between political parties but also regarding the women vote bank. On one hand, TMC under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee has strengthened the women’s brigade by fielding a large number of women candidates and also by putting forward leaders like Shashi Panja and Sayoni Ghosh in the campaign, while on the other hand, BJP has made women’s reservation a big election issue.

Election campaign relying on faces
Mamata Banerjee has fielded her strong women’s brigade to consolidate women votes and counter the BJP. This list includes names like Chandrima Bhattacharya, Shatabdi Roy, Sayoni Ghosh, June Malia, Pratima Mandal, Aditi Munshi, Sayantika Banerjee and Rachana Banerjee.

The party has sharpened the electoral atmosphere by fielding not only experienced leaders but also glamor and young faces. Sayoni Ghosh is connecting youth and women by raising the slogan of ‘Maa, Mati, Manush’ in her rallies, while Rachna Banerjee, Shatabdi Roy and June Malia are directly communicating with women in rural areas.

In response to this, BJP MP and veteran actress Kangana Ranaut created an atmosphere by holding a grand road show in support of BJP candidate Subhendu Adhikari in Nandigram of East Medinipur district. When Kangana, riding in an open jeep, waved to the people on the streets of Nandigram, a crowd of fans and workers gathered.

Lakshmi Bhandar vs Matri Shakti Vandan
‘Lakshmi Bhandar’ scheme is also being promoted vigorously. This is an attempt to strengthen the trust of women towards TMC. Women leaders are going door-to-door and communicating. The state government’s schemes—such as women’s safety, economic assistance and social welfare—are being delivered directly to the voters. The party believes that this direct contact with women can play a decisive role in the election results.

BJP promised to give Rs 3,000 to women
In comparison, BJP has promised to give Rs 3000 under the ‘Matri Shakti Vandan’ scheme. BJP has played a big gamble by keeping women at the centre. If the BJP government is formed, every woman was promised ₹ 36,000 annually. Besides, TMC was also accused of failing to protect women and giving protection to criminals. However, breaking Mamata’s ‘daughter of Bengal’ image is a tough challenge for BJP. At present the party does not have any local face like Mamata Banerjee.

BJP behind women’s reservation
At the same time, BJP is attacking TMC and the opposition by making the non-implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act and its delay a big issue. The party alleges that women have still not received real political representation and it has been limited to election promises. BJP is trying to woo urban and educated women voters through this issue.

Who trusts women so much?
In West Bengal, TMC has given tickets to 52 women candidates. The thinking behind this strategy of Mamata Banerjee is that she will attract women voters in the elections. On the other hand, BJP has given tickets to only 33 women. This is about 11.22 percent of the total candidates. However, in the last elections, BJP had fielded 13% women candidates.

The analysis of candidates before the West Bengal Assembly elections (23 and 29 April) clearly shows that the participation of women in politics is still limited. This time the participation of women among the total candidates is only about 11%. However, TMC is far ahead of other parties in this matter—the party has fielded 52 women candidates out of 291, which is about 27.2%.

At the same time, the alliance of Left parties and CPI(M) has given opportunity to women on 34 (13.43%) out of 253 seats. Congress has fielded 35 (11.9%) women candidates out of 294 seats and BJP has fielded 33 (11.2%) women candidates out of 294 seats, which is the lowest proportion.

There were 41 women MLAs in the last assembly of the state, which is more than the national average of 8%, but still far behind the global average of 24%. Despite the Women’s Reservation Act, the challenge of increasing women’s participation at the grassroots level still remains.

Also read: After PM Modi’s rally in Bengal, BJP candidate said – Our victory is certain, TMC’s departure is certain.

The atmosphere has become very heated before the elections in West Bengal. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has clearly said that her party cannot be intimidated by midnight raids and arrests. His statement came at a time when I-PAC co-founder Vinesh Chandel was arrested by ED in Delhi. Mamata Banerjee said during a rally in Pingla, West Midnapore that if one worker is arrested, another will stand in his place. He said that Trinamool Congress will continue the fight and West Bengal cannot be controlled so easily. He accused the central government of threatening to put people in jail, but the party will not step back from this.

Mamta Banerjee also said that since the announcement of elections, ED and CBI are continuously taking action. Summons have been sent to many leaders and raids are being conducted at night. Mamata Banerjee alleges that a plan is being made to arrest booth agents just before the elections so that the opposition becomes weak on the day of voting.

I-PAC co-founder arrested

Party’s National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee also reacted strongly to the arrest of I-PAC’s co-founder. He said that such action a few days before the elections raises questions on fair elections. He alleged that those working with the opposition are being targeted, which is not good for democracy. Abhishek Banerjee also said that if those who have serious allegations change their parties, they are saved, while action is taken against the rest.

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien also termed the ED’s action as interference in the elections. He said that all this is an attempt to influence the elections, but despite this BJP will have to face defeat.

Mamta Banerjee appealed during rallies

Mamta Banerjee appealed to women during the rallies that if someone is stopped from voting, they should stand firm. He made it clear that he is not in favor of violence, but people should stand up for their rights. He also raised the question as to why such a large number of central forces were sent at the time of elections, when the state police could also have worked to maintain peace. He asked people to complain if any officer harasses them. He said that the job of the central forces is to maintain peace, but if they stop people from voting then it is against democracy.

A new opinion poll released before the West Bengal Assembly elections has revealed a mixed picture. According to this survey, Trinamool Congress (TMC) seems to be returning to power once again, but its seats may decrease. At the same time, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems to be stronger than before. According to the latest survey of VoteVibe, Mamata Banerjee’s party TMC can get 174 to 184 seats in the 294-member assembly. The majority figure is 148, so TMC can easily form the government. If this happens, it will be Mamata Banerjee’s fourth consecutive term, although the seats may be less than before.

On the other hand, BJP is expected to get 108 to 118 seats this time, which is more than the previous estimate. It is clear from this that BJP can come in the role of a strong opposition this time. At the same time, the position of Congress and Left parties remains weak and they are expected to get only 0 to 4 seats. Earlier in the survey of March 23, TMC was expected to get 184 to 194 seats and BJP was expected to get 98 to 108 seats. In the new survey, TMC’s seats seem to be decreasing slightly and BJP’s seats are increasing.

Results of 2021 assembly elections

If compared with the 2021 assembly elections, at that time TMC had won 215 seats and BJP had won 77 seats. New figures show that even if TMC forms the government again, BJP will emerge stronger this time. If we look at the areas, the contest may be tough in Midnapore, where BJP seems to be getting an edge. At the same time, TMC’s hold remains strong in areas like Presidency and Malda. Mamata Banerjee is still the most preferred leader for the post of Chief Minister. According to the survey, 46.4% people want to see him as the Chief Minister again, while BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari has got 34.9% support. Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary of Congress and Mohammad Salim of CPM are far behind.

The biggest issue in the survey is employment and development

VoteVibe survey also revealed that the biggest issue for the people is employment and development, which 35.1% people said was most important. After this, law and order, women’s safety, election related issues and inflation are also major concerns. People’s opinion is divided regarding government schemes. About 53.6% people believe that the schemes run for the youth have not been completely successful in reducing unemployment. A clear inclination is also visible in the voting pattern. Muslim voters are largely with TMC, while SC-ST and upper caste Hindu voters seem to be leaning towards BJP.

A new opinion poll has given a big indication regarding the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal. According to this survey, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s party TMC can once again return to power and form the government for the fourth consecutive time. However, this time the number of seats is expected to be less than before. In this survey of VoteVibe, TMC is estimated to get around 174 to 184 seats in the 294-seat assembly. 148 seats are required for majority in the state, which means TMC can easily get majority.

There may be improvement in BJP’s performance. According to the survey, BJP may get 108 to 118 seats, which is more than the previous estimate. On the other hand, Congress and Left parties are not able to show any significant impact this time too and they are expected to get only 0 to 4 seats. Earlier, in a survey conducted on March 23, TMC was expected to get 184 to 194 seats and BJP to get 98 to 108 seats, but in the new survey, BJP’s position seems to be getting stronger and TMC’s seats are slightly underestimated.

How many seats did TMC get in the 2021 elections?

If we talk about 2021 elections, at that time TMC had formed the government by winning 215 seats, while BJP had got 77 seats. The new survey indicates that this time TMC will remain in power, but BJP may emerge as a stronger opposition than before. If we look at the areas, the competition can be quite tough at some places. BJP seems to be gaining in Midnapore, while TMC seems strong in Presidency and Malda areas. The performance of these areas can have a big impact on the final result. Talking about the face of the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee is still the most favorite leader. In the survey, 46.4 percent people liked him, while BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari got 34.9 percent support. Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary of Congress and Mohammad Salim of CPM are far behind.

What is the biggest issue of voters?

The biggest issues for voters are unemployment and development, which 35.1 percent people said were most important. After this comes law and order and women’s safety, then issues related to voter list, inflation and other problems. People also have mixed views regarding government schemes. Especially on the ongoing schemes for the youth, 53.6 percent people said that this will not solve the problem of unemployment. The trend of voting on the basis of religion and caste is also clearly visible. Muslim voters are with TMC in large numbers, while BJP is getting more support among SC-ST and upper caste Hindu voters. People’s opinion is also divided regarding the functioning of the state government. Some people consider it good while a large number of people also call it bad.

The supplementary voter list before the West Bengal Assembly elections has created a new storm in the politics of the state. The Election Commission released the first SIR Supplementary Voter List around midnight on Monday 23 March, but till now it has not been made clear as to how many names of voters have been added or removed, this uncertainty has intensified the war of allegations and counter-allegations between political parties.

In the final voter list released on February 28, about 60 lakh names were marked under adjudication. On the instructions of the Supreme Court, 705 judicial officers were appointed to review these cases. Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Aggarwal had said that till now the decision has been taken on about 29 lakh names, while the process of remaining cases is going on.

Trinamool Congress raised questions

Trinamool Congress has raised serious questions on this process. Kolkata Mayor and Minister Firhad Hakim made the allegation. He said, ‘It has been seen that the names of about 40 percent people in Bhawanipur assembly constituency have been tampered. The Constitution gives us the right to vote and anyone who opposes the Constitution is against India. If the Election Commission is against India then we will approach the High Court and demand its removal, because it is the responsibility of the Election Commission to ensure that every citizen gets the opportunity to vote.

Answer of BJP State President Sukant Majumdar

BJP state president Sukant Majumdar also said that this process is under judicial supervision. He said, ‘The supplementary voter list has been prepared under the supervision of the Supreme Court and officers appointed by the Kolkata High Court. At the strategic level, meetings are being held with Nitin Naveen on sector-wise plans. Limited workers are being called in these meetings and focus is being placed on specific areas and seats. BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal justified the list by saying, “Names do not change after midnight. Whether you see it in the morning or evening, the names remain the same. The fake voters who were added have now been removed. In a democracy, only legal voters have the right to vote, not illegal ones.”

electoral politics on voter list

Voters have been asked to download the booth-level list to check their status, but many have complained of technical glitches. Voters whose names have been removed have been given the right to appeal to the designated tribunal within 15 days. This ongoing dispute over voter list can make electoral politics more intense. On one hand, BJP is calling it ‘cleansing of fake voters’, while TMC is calling it an attack on democratic rights. Now everyone’s eyes are on the next step of the Election Commission. Only the final figures and the lists to be released will decide whether this controversy will stop or it will intensify the electoral battle. In view of the election atmosphere, security has been tightened across the state. Voting for the 294-member assembly is to be held on April 23 and 29, while counting of votes will take place on May 4.
