Toyota’s new generation Fortuner has been spotted testing for the first time and it is believed that it may be launched in India in 2027. The current Fortuner is already quite popular in India and sells well every month, but major changes are being made in the new generation, which may further increase its demand. This new Fortuner is being built on the IMV platform based on Hilux. The special thing is that now hybrid technology can also be seen in it. The glimpse that has emerged during its testing in Thailand clearly shows that this model will look more modern and stronger than before.

There will be a big change in design and size

The look of the new Toyota Fortuner will be more premium than before. Its design may look somewhat like a Lexus SUV. The size of the vehicle will increase and its wheelbase will also be longer. This will provide more space to the people sitting inside. Its style will remain boxy, but the new styling will make it stronger and more powerful. Front and rear design will be completely new. The new Fortuner will look bigger and more attractive on the road than before, which will further strengthen its road presence.

Interior and features will be completely new

Big changes will be seen inside the new generation Fortuner. It will have a new dashboard design and better quality material will be used. Features like large touchscreen, digital instrument cluster and sunroof for the first time can be found in it. The cabin will be more modern and comfortable as compared to the current model. The feature list will also be updated, which will make this SUV feel more premium.

Engine and launch details

The new Fortuner in India can be initially offered with 2.8 liter diesel and 2.7 liter petrol engines. Mild hybrid technology is expected to be available with diesel engine. There are no plans for a fully electric Fortuner as of now. Its launch in India may happen in 2027, because it will take time to arrive.

Toyota Fortuner Hybrid vs Regular: The biggest change in Toyota Fortuner Hybrid is seen in its 2.8-liter diesel engine, which is now paired with a 48V mild hybrid system. This setup consists of ISG (Integrated Starter Generator), which gives torque assist and smooth start-stop experience during driving.

This technology not only corrects power delivery but also makes throttle response more refined. The ISG system alone provides 16bhp power and 42Nm torque, while the total output remains 201bhp/500Nm. Due to this change, driving in traffic in the city is more smooth and balanced.

Better mileage

The biggest advantage of hybrid systems is better fuel efficiency. The company claims that MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle) Fortuner gives 5% more mileage than Normal Diesel Fortuner. Although its official mileage data has not been revealed so far, it is clear that the hybrid system saves fuel by reducing the load on the engine.

Refined nvh level and smooth gearsifying

Hybrid technology not only increases power, but also reduces the noise and vibration of the car. During the engine start-stop, there is less voice and vibration, which makes the ride quality better. Also, the gear shifts of the hybrid version are more smooth and refined than the diesel model. This means that every time the driver will feel less shock while changing the gear.

Updated instrument cluster

The cabin design and layout of Toyota Fortuner Hybrid is similar to the regular model, but its instrument cluster has been updated for special hybrids. It contains graphics such as battery charge status, power flow, and regeneration alert. Apart from this, smart safety features like Adas (Toyota Safety Sense) and 360-degree camera are also added to it (according to South Africa-Spec version). This new display not only makes the drive more interactive, but also shows real-time data of the vehicle position.

Weight and driving experience

The weight of Toyota Fortuner Hybrid is about 60-80 kg more than the regular model due to its battery pack and ISG unit. This version gives more comfortable and smooth ride on the city roads. Due to hybrid assist, starting torque gets more due to which the car looks more light and response in traffic.

If you want more mileage, smooth ride and new technology, then Fortuner hybrid may be a better option for you, but if your priority is only power and off-roading, then the regular Fortuner is still a great SUV.
