India US Relations: Just before his upcoming visit to India, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has given a big statement. He has made it clear that Washington is ready to sell as much energy to India as New Delhi wishes to buy. Talking to reporters in Miami, Rubio described India as an excellent ally and partner.

According to the report of news agency PTI, he said that his visit to India is very important because during this time he will get a chance to meet the ministers of the Quad countries.

Meeting with ‘Quad’ countries is very important

The US Secretary of State advocated stronger relations with India, saying, “We work very well with them. So this is an important visit. I’m glad we are able to make this visit because I think we will have a lot to talk about.” He further said, “We will also meet the leaders of the Quad countries there, which is very important. My first meeting as Foreign Minister was also with the Quad. I am happy that now we are going to hold this meeting in India and we will have another meeting later this year too.”

BRICS summit 2026: The trio of India, Russia and China will be seen together again! Whatever happens in BRICS…that will be the real global power balance.

Venezuelan oil will also be discussed
Marco Rubio made another big announcement during this period. He told that Venezuela’s interim President Delsey Rodriguez is also visiting India next week, where she will discuss the issue of selling oil to India. It is noteworthy that US President Donald Trump had mentioned for the first time in the beginning of February this year about India buying oil from Venezuela. At the same time, an important trade agreement was announced between Washington and New Delhi, under which the reciprocal tariff on Indian imports was reduced from the current 25 percent to 18 percent.

Rubio will be in India from 23 to 26 May
The US Secretary of State will be on a visit to India from May 23 to May 26. During his four-day visit, he will visit New Delhi, Kolkata, Agra and Jaipur. Interestingly, Marco Rubio will be the first US Secretary of State to visit Kolkata in almost 14 years. Before him, in 2012, the then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had visited Kolkata. Let us tell you that the US Consulate General located in Kolkata is the second oldest US Consulate in the world.

Quad meeting will be held on 26 May
A meeting of foreign ministers of Quad countries has been fixed on the last day of this tour i.e. 26th May. This meeting was chaired by India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will do. Along with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japan’s Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu will also attend the meeting.

US President Donald Trump has given a stern warning to Canada, saying that if it does not end its trade deal with China, America will impose 100% tariff on it. He made it clear that this step can be taken to protect American business interests.

Earlier, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said on Friday that President Donald Trump is committed to bringing the North American trade agreement under control. He criticized Canada’s trade negotiation strategies, saying, ‘They are very bad.’

A Commerce Department spokesperson said Lutnick was pointing to the imbalanced trade between the United States and Canada and how Canada is taking advantage of America’s $30 trillion economy.

Strong comment on Canada’s strategy
Lutnick, speaking at a conference organized by media outlet Semafor, criticized Canada’s stance against the Trump administration. He rejected a suggestion by a former Canadian trade official that Canada could benefit from a slower pace of negotiations. He called it ‘the worst strategy ever’.

Trump’s stance on trade deal
When asked whether Trump was committed to extending the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), Lutnick said the president considered it a “bad deal.”

Also read: Trump’s anger shown on camera! Indians got angry on the question of attack on tanker, to whom they said- Out

accused of harming America
Lutnick said that while some of America’s relationships with Canada and Mexico are “fundamental,” the overall trade deal is “bad industrial policy” that has hurt the United States.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday (23 March) attended the party’s ‘Tribal Rights Constitution Conference’ in Vadodara city of Gujarat. During this, he targeted the address given by Prime Minister Modi in the Parliament. He accused the Modi government of not having the necessary direction and strategy to deal with the current economic situation facing the country. The trade deal between India and the US was also targeted.

Questions raised on US trade deal

Rahul Gandhi said, for the first time in the India-US interim trade agreement, the country’s agriculture sector has been opened by the government for American products, this had never been done before. He further said, ‘India’s valuable data was sold to America. Taxes of American companies are waived, while the tax burden on you is increased. We have given a lot to America, but have taken nothing from them.

Narendra Modi just gave a 25-minute speech, but did not say a word against America.

Narendra Modi is 100% under Trump’s control.

BJP targeted for using the word ‘forest dweller’

Rahul Gandhi said, BJP says that there has been development in the country, ‘I ask you who has developed here. Did this development happen due to the tribals who have been protecting this water, forest and land for centuries? He further said, BJP does not call you ‘tribal’ but ‘forest resident’. There is a deep conspiracy behind this. ‘Adivasi’ means the first owner of this land, but by calling you ‘forest dweller’ they just want to make you a resident of the forest, so that tomorrow when the forests are cut down, you will have no rights left and you will be forced to work as a labourer.

Demand for separate budget for tribals

Congress MP demanded a separate budget for tribals. He said, ‘We want a separate budget for tribals, high-quality schools and colleges for them. Our youth living in the jungle also need English and modern education. Our dream is that the names of tribal youth should be in the list of CEOs of tomorrow. Said, ‘BJP’s thinking is opposite to this. He alleged that BJP is destroying educational institutions by imposing the ideology of RSS, so that backward people and tribals do not get their rights. He further said, we will fight against hatred. We will provide the tribals their rights, water, forests, land and world class education. We will protect the country.

Commerce Secretary Howard Latnick arrived in India a few days after the US Supreme Court declared Donald Trump’s global tariffs invalid. He suddenly visited Delhi on Thursday (26 February). Latnik had lunch with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore and Piyush Goyal gave this information by posting separately on X. Along with a photo of the three, Gore wrote that lunch with Howard Latnick and Piyush Goyal was very meaningful. There are many areas of cooperation for both our countries. Goyal said that they had very meaningful discussions to expand our trade and economic partnership.

Where did the American officials go after meeting Goyal?
According to Hindustan Times report, the US Commerce Department said that both sides discussed ways to further strengthen trade and economic relations between the US and India. The spokesperson of the Commerce Ministry did not give detailed information in this regard. Latnik left for Jodhpur during the day. According to people familiar with the matter, he went to Jodhpur to attend the wedding of tech executive Nikesh Arora’s daughter Ayesha Arora and ice hockey star Jack Hughes.

Big blow to Trump from US SC
Let us tell you that this meeting has taken place at an important juncture in India-US trade relations. The US Supreme Court on February 20 canceled Trump’s decision to impose global tariffs using emergency powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, dealing a major blow to the Trump administration.

Citing Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, Trump imposed a new global tariff of 10 percent and in less than 24 hours announced that he would increase it to 15 percent. However, till Thursday, 10 per cent tariff is applicable on all trading partners in addition to the existing MFN rates. This tariff is valid for 150 days.

Indian solar to USA: US President Donald Trump has decided to impose initial duties of 126 percent on solar imports from India. This step may jeopardize the ongoing trade agreement between India and America.

The US Commerce Department imposed this duty because it felt that India unfairly subsidized its domestic solar panel manufacturing, making Indian products cheaper than American manufacturers. Apart from this, the department fixed the initial fee at 86 to 143 percent for Indonesia and 81 percent for Laos.

Impact on India-US trade agreement

This decision has come at a time when a few weeks ago New Delhi and Washington had decided the framework of the India-US trade agreement. There was a provision to reduce the earlier tariff on Indian exports from 50 percent to 18 percent. Earlier, the US Supreme Court had declared Donald Trump’s old tariffs unconstitutional. After this, Donald Trump imposed a 10 percent baseline duty on most imports under the new rule and threatened to increase it to 15 percent.

This new policy makes it clear that “America First” policy is the first priority for America, even if strategic trade agreements are left behind for this. For this reason, Indian and American officials have also postponed the three-day meeting scheduled this week.

Solar supply chain situation

The increase in imports from India, Indonesia and Laos, which accounted for 57 percent of total US solar module imports in the first half of 2025, is believed to be primarily driven by companies avoiding Chinese companies. Chinese manufacturers are facing strict regulations in the US and hence they are shifting production to Southeast Asia. India has been the biggest beneficiary of this change. Solar panel imports from India will reach $792.6 million in 2024, which is nine times more than in 2022.

American domestic industry got relief

Tim Brightbill, chief counsel for the American Solar Manufacturing and Trade Alliance, called it a win for domestic investment. He said that “If the market is affected by unfair trade, then domestic investment will not be successful.”
But this fee is a big challenge for American solar companies. Stoppage of supplies from India may increase project costs, while the industry is already grappling with high interest rates and policy uncertainty. The US department is going to take the final decision on the subsidy by July 6, 2026. An anti-dumping investigation will also be completed at the same time.

Trade deal was signed between India and Brazil on Saturday (21 February). This includes many things like technology, innovation, AI, digital technology and startup ecosystem. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva came to India on a 4-day visit, along with a large delegation. Now the statement of Professor and well-known strategic thinker Brahma Chellaney has come on this deal between the two countries.

Brahma Chellaney said in a post on X on Saturday that China’s monopoly will now be challenged as India and Brazil have signed a new mineral agreement. He told that Brazil, the largest country in South America, has the world’s second largest reserve of rare minerals, about 21 million tonnes. Brazil ranks second after China in terms of rare minerals.

‘India will benefit from Brazil’s vast resources’
He further said that the bilateral agreement on critical minerals signed by President Lula in New Delhi aims to create a strong supply chain by linking Brazil’s vast resource base with India’s growing industrial demand and technological capabilities.

‘Brazil is a superpower in the mining sector’
Brahma Chellaney said that Beijing’s decision to suddenly ban the supply of rare minerals to India in April last year has prompted New Delhi to diversify its sources. Although Brazil has long been a mining powerhouse, it has only recently begun to increase rare earth minerals processing capacity in a serious effort to challenge the status quo globally.

He said that with the India-Brazil partnership, both the countries want to create a value chain that bypasses Chinese processing facilities and this agreement also includes cooperation on downstream processing technologies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given an interview for the first time after Budget 2026 and the trade deal with EU and America. In an interview given to PTI, Prime Minister Modi has presented his views to the country on many issues including trade deal, budget and defence.

What did PM Modi say on the Union Budget?

While talking about the Union Budget, PM Modi has said that this year’s budget shows India’s desire to become a developed country. The budget was born out of compulsion, it is not a now or never moment. Rather, it is a ‘We are ready’ moment born out of preparation and inspiration.

What did PM Modi say on trade deal?

PM Modi also expressed his views on the trade deal signed with EU and America. PM Modi said that political stability and political predictability have brought back investor confidence in India. Strong manufacturing services and MSMEs have greatly helped India negotiate trade deals in a powerful manner.

What did PM Modi say on defense budget?

Apart from this, he also expressed his views on the defense budget. He said that the government will do whatever it takes to support and strengthen the country’s defense forces. It is the responsibility of the government to modernize the defense sector according to today’s reality.

What did PM Modi say on FTAs?

PM Modi also spoke on the free trade agreements signed with 38 countries. He said that our FTAs are designed to increase the market for MSMEs in textile, leather, chemicals, handicrafts, gems and other sectors.

What did you say about the economic management of the UPA government?

Apart from this, PM Modi targeted the UPA government. He said that economic management was not good during the time of UPA. Because of this, India could not negotiate in a situation of trust. Talks used to start during UPA rule. But it did not progress further. Even after long talks, no concrete result was ever achieved.

What did Prime Minister Narendra Modi say about reforms?

PM Modi said that it is the government’s commitment to make reforms. We have shown this commitment. The private sector is very important for the next phase of economic transformation. He said that private sectors should pay less attention to saving margins. There should be rapid investment in R&D, supply chain and quality. Apart from this, he said that the next step for developed India will depend on investment in innovation, long term capacity and global competitiveness in the private sector. He said that to increase productivity, owners of private sectors should share necessary information with their workers. India is a digital leader in the world. This has been possible due to improvements in people’s transactions through the UPI platform.

What did Prime Minister Narendra Modi say on data center?
PM Modi has also spoken about the role of data centers in the future. He has said that data centers will create many opportunities for our youth. He said that India is laying the foundation of a growing AI ecosystem by increasing its computing power and data infra capacity.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is continuously attacking the Modi government regarding the India-US trade deal. He says that this deal will cause great loss to Indian farmers, especially cotton farmers. Apart from this, the textile traders of India will also have to suffer losses.

Rahul Gandhi posted on Twitter on Saturday (February 14) that 18% tariff vs 0%, let me explain how the Prime Minister and his cabinet, who are expert in lying, are spreading confusion on this and how they are cheating the country’s cotton farmers and textile exporters with the India-US trade agreement. Bangladesh is being given the benefit of 0% tariff on garment exports to America, the only condition is that it imports American cotton.

Rahul Gandhi raised questions
Raising questions about the deal, the Congress leader said that after the announcement of 18% tariff on Indian garments, when I raised a question in the Parliament about the special concession being given to Bangladesh, then the minister of Modi government replied that if we also want the same benefit, then we will have to import cotton from America. After all, why was this thing hidden from the country till then? And what kind of policy is this? Is this really an option or is it a trap leading to a well in the front and a ditch in the back?

18% Tariff vs 0% – Let me explain, how the Prime Minister and his cabinet, who are experts in lying, are spreading confusion on this. And, how they are cheating the country’s cotton farmers and textile exporters with the India-US trade agreement.

Our farmers will be ruined- Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi said that if we import American cotton, our own farmers will be ruined. If we don’t order it, our textile industry will lag behind and get destroyed. And now Bangladesh is indicating that it may also reduce or stop cotton imports from India. Textile industry and cotton cultivation are the backbone of livelihood in India. The livelihood of crores of people depends on these. An injury to these areas means pushing millions of families into the abyss of unemployment and economic crisis.

Regarding the US-India trade deal, Rahul Gandhi said that a far-sighted and nationally-minded government would have made a deal that would protect the interests and ensure prosperity of both cotton farmers and textile exporters, but on the contrary, Narendra “Surrender” Modi and his ministers have made such an agreement which can prove to be a deep injury to both the sectors.

The people of India were not able to gather complete information about the trade deal with America that America also made a trade deal with Bangladesh. On the surface, it is clearly visible in this deal that India has more benefit from the deal with America than Bangladesh, because the tariff on India is 18 percent and the tariff on Bangladesh is 19 percent.

In this trade deal with Bangladesh, America has played such a subtle game, which is no less than a problem for the farmers of India and the textile industry of India. Now everyone is more or less aware of the trade deal that America has made with India. The doubts that Indian farmers had about agricultural products have been removed by first Piyush Goyal and then Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and have said that this deal with America does not include any agricultural product in the production of which India is self-reliant.

Higher tariff on Bangladesh

The US-Bangladesh trade deal says that the tariff on Bangladesh will now be 19 percent. At one time it had reached 37 percent. If Bangladesh makes clothes made from American cotton and artificial fibres, then America will not impose any tax on purchasing them. This will be purchased from Bangladesh at 0 percent tariff only. This second clause of the trade deal between America and Bangladesh is the biggest concern of India because Bangladesh is the second largest exporter of textiles in the world after China.

Donald Trump played in ‘clothes’

Bangladesh buys 98 percent of its total cotton requirements for making clothes from other countries. Apart from Brazil, India, America and other countries are also among those who sell cotton to Bangladesh, but due to better quality, Bangladesh has been purchasing more than 20 percent of its requirement from India. Bangladesh is the largest buyer of yarn made in India in the whole world. A report says that Bangladesh had purchased yarn worth about $1.47 billion from India in the year 2024-25 and India has also been selling more than 40 percent of its cotton exports to Bangladesh only.

Bangladesh used to be able to meet only 7 to 10 percent of its needs from America, but now the subtle game that has happened in this trade deal and under which America has said that it will make the clothes made in Bangladesh from American cotton duty free, then it is natural that the priority of Bangladesh will change. Instead of buying cotton from India, Bangladesh will buy cotton from America because it will not have to pay duty on the clothes made from it and this is the biggest problem for India’s textile industry.

Bangladeshi cloth will be sold more than India

India will not only be hit in the export of cotton but India will also be hit doubly in the export of clothes. Bangladesh already dominates the textile market. If it buys cotton from America and makes clothes and sells it to America, then the clothes made by it will be cheaper than those made in India because there will be 18 percent tariff on the clothes made in India whereas there will be no tariff on the clothes made in Bangladesh. Then the American market will prefer the clothes of Bangladesh instead of India, which is not beneficial in any way for the Indian textile industry.

Since Mohammad Yunus took command after the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina, relations between India and Bangladesh have increased. Trade has reduced and there is a kind of uncertainty among the businessmen of both the countries, but if there is a change of power in Bangladesh after the general elections, then it is possible that a new business relationship can be established between India and Bangladesh, which will be in the interest of both the countries and through which the textile industry of both the countries can reach more markets of the world.

A major development on oil sourcing has come to light during the trade deal talks between India and the US. The government has asked state-run oil companies to explore more crude oil from the US and Venezuela, while no official commitment was given on Russian oil. India’s clear focus is to diversify oil sources and strengthen energy security. But there is also a challenge: US oil is light, Indian refineries are designed for medium-heavy crude, on top of that the freight cost is also high. This may impact oil stocks like IOC, BPCL, HPCL. This move is being considered positive for ONGC and Oil India. Overall, India is adopting flexible strategy while managing pressure.
