Every day lakhs of people travel by train in India. Train is the most reliable and cheapest means of travel for weddings, travelling, work or meeting family. The best thing about train travel is that you can book multiple tickets at the same time with your family or friends. But it often happens that when you book tickets for 4 to 5 people, not all their tickets are confirmed. In such a situation, the question arises that if there are five people in the same family and the tickets of only three of them are confirmed, then can the remaining people travel in the train, will TTE remove them from the train and what will be the penalty? So let us know if there are 5 people in the family but only three tickets are confirmed, then how can the rest travel.

How does the ticket booking system work in Railways?

When you take tickets for 4-5 people in a single booking, a PNR number is generated for your ticket. This PNR is a record of all your ticket information. This includes who all are travelling, in which train, seat number and coach, dates of journey. In such a situation, if you booked tickets for five people. Out of these, some tickets get confirmed and some go in the waiting list, so earlier the rule was that if some tickets on the same PNR were confirmed and some were in waiting, then everyone could board the train. Waitlisted passengers may not be able to get a seat, but could travel in the train and the TTE would not deboard them. But now Railways has changed the rules.

What are the new rules for those with waiting tickets?

Now Railways has made it clear that only those passengers whose ticket is confirmed can travel in the train. Waiting list passengers cannot board sleeper or AC coaches. If your ticket status is still waiting even after charting, you cannot travel in that coach. If you board the train without a confirmed ticket, TTE can deboard you from the train and fine or legal action can also be taken.

What to do if 3 out of 5 tickets are confirmed?

If there are 5 people in your family and after ticket booking, 3 tickets are confirmed and 2 are left in waiting list, then waiting list passengers, if the ticket is converted to RAC, then you can board the train. RAC means that your seat will be shared with someone. If the ticket is still waiting after chart preparation, then you cannot board the train directly. Apart from this, you can buy general tickets by going to the station. You can book general tickets from UTS app. Boarding the train without a ticket or waiting ticket is against the rules and TTE can take action.

IRCTC and waiting ticket

If you book a ticket online and it is not confirmed, then IRCTC auto-cancels that ticket and refunds the money. This means that you do not need to cancel the ticket yourself. If a passenger in the train cancels the journey and the seat becomes vacant, then TTE can give the seat to a waiting passenger.

Also read: Old number linked to Aadhaar has been closed, this is how you can add a new mobile number.

Indian Railways transports millions of passengers from one place to another every day. For the convenience of passengers and to make the journey comfortable, Indian Railways makes many rules from time to time. Often during travel, people remain confused as to when they can use the middle berth. At times, there are fights and arguments among people regarding the use of middle berth during travel. Some people need a place to sit at night and some people want to sleep. In such a situation, it is important for you to know the rules related to middle berth in advance. So today let us tell you from what time you can use the middle berth in the train and what is the railway rule regarding this.

From what time can I use the middle berth?

According to the rules of Indian Railways, the time for sleeping in reserved coaches is fixed from 10 pm to 6 am. In such a situation, middle berth passengers can sleep with their seats open from 10 pm to 6 am. According to this rule, if a passenger wants to sleep on the middle berth after 10 pm, then the passengers sitting on the lower berth cannot stop him. This time is considered the official sleeping time and all passengers have to follow this rule.

Middle berth cannot be opened during the day

According to railway rules, it is necessary to keep the middle berth closed after 6 am. So that lower berth passengers can get space to sit. The middle berth cannot be used for sitting or sleeping during day time. If a passenger opens the middle berth before 10 pm, the lower berth passenger can refuse to do so and can also complain to TT.

It is also important to know the rules related to lower berth

Lower berths can be used both day and night, but middle berth passengers have the right to sleep from 10 pm to 6 am. During the day, lower berth passengers have to give way to middle berth and upper berth passengers. Railways made this rule so that all passengers get equal facilities and no one is inconvenienced.

It is also important to know these rules of Railways

There are some more important rules during train travel, which passengers should be aware of. Smoking and drinking alcohol in trains is prohibited under Indian Railways. If caught doing this, action may be taken against the passenger. Apart from this, fighting in the train, talking loudly or playing music is also considered prohibited. Because this may cause trouble to other passengers. Apart from this, as per railway rules, tickets of TT passengers cannot be checked from 10 pm to 6 am so that the passengers can sleep comfortably. However, if a passenger boards the train after 10 o’clock then this rule does not apply to him.

Ashwini vaishnaw: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed in Parliament on Wednesday (March 26) that several important steps have been taken to improve crowd management at railway stations. These include wide foot-over-bridge, CCTV surveillance and war room arrangements.

Railways have implemented a limited entry control system to control the huge crowd during festivals and fairs. Under this arrangement, holding areas have been created outside the stations, where the passengers are not given entry until the train comes on the platform.

Railways will make permanent holding area at 60 stations

According to the Railway Minister, holding areas were built in Surat, Udhna, Patna and New Delhi during the 2024 festive season. This system was also implemented at nine stations of Prayagraj during Mahakumbh. Based on these experiences, permanent waiting areas will be built at 60 stations across the country.

Now entry to only confirmed tickets at 60 stations

Now complete admission control will be implemented at 60 stations. Only passengers with confirmed reserve tickets will get entry up to the platform, while the waiting list and without ticket passengers will have to stay in the external waiting area. Unauthorized entrances will also be sealed.

More CCTV cameras at stations to increase security

The Railway Minister informed that 12 meters and 6 meters wide FOBs of the new design will be made which will be helpful in crowd management. Also, the number of CCTV cameras will be increased for monitoring all major stations.

War rooms will be built at big stations for mob management

War rooms will be set up at large railway stations where officers of all departments will work coordinated in case of congestion. Walky-talkie, announcement system and digital communication equipment will be installed at all heavy crowded stations.

Railway employees will get new uniform and ID card

New uniform and ID cards will be issued for railway employees so that only authorized people can enter the stations. Station directors will be appointed at major stations who will be given financial rights so that they can take immediate decisions.

Station director right to ticket sales control

Station directors will be empowered to control the sales of tickets according to the station’s capacity and available trains. GRP, local police and civil administration will also be included to ensure security at the stations.

Platform ticket will be available only under special circumstances

Taking a lesson from the recent stampede at New Delhi railway station, railway zonal officers have been empowered to control the sale of platform tickets. However, platform tickets will be issued under certain special circumstances to assist the old, uneducated and women passengers.
