Leaving behind the traffic jams of India’s Delhi, Mumbai and Noida, the world’s biggest traffic...

Leaving behind the traffic jams of India’s Delhi, Mumbai and Noida, the world’s biggest traffic jam has been seen in China. The jam occurred at the Wuzhuang toll station in Anhui province when millions of people were returning to their homes after the eight-day holidays of National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival.

Thousands of vehicles remained stuck for hours in this jam that occurred on Monday (6 October 2025). Drone footage showed long rows of red taillights at the massive 36-lane Wuzhuang toll station, making for a wonderful but disturbing sight.

The return tide has arrived — millions of travelers are heading home from the holiday. pic.twitter.com/2cB8VAH7Nm

— China Perspective (@China_Fact) October 8, 2025

36 lane toll station becomes Red Sea of Lights

In the video going viral on social media, Wuzhuang Toll Station was seen completely glowing with red lights, where thousands of vehicles were seen waiting for their turn. According to reports, around 1,20,000 vehicles moved through this toll station that day. Although the toll plaza has 36 lanes, due to such heavy traffic, hundreds of vehicles got stuck in several kilometer long lines. The drone footage showed how many vehicles coming from different lanes were trying to move forward while narrowing into the four main lanes. This sight was named Red Sea of Lights.

The combination of Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day became the reason for the traffic jam.

Mid-Autumn Festival is a family festival in China, which people return home to celebrate with their families. This year the festival coincided with the National Day holiday, resulting in an eight-day long holiday (1 to 8 October) across the country. According to China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 888 million people traveled during this period, which was about 16% more than last year. During the same period in 2024, 76.5 crore people went out for sightseeing. Such a large number of people came out on the streets together, causing terrible traffic jams on the highways and toll stations.

Drivers remember Chinese New Year

Commuters stranded at the Wuzhuang toll station wrote on social media that the jam was reminding them of the Chinese New Year, when a similar traffic crisis is seen every year. Many drivers complained that they were stuck in their vehicles for 3 to 5 hours, while some claimed that it took overnight to cross the toll. One driver posted that it was a relief to cross the toll, but there was so much traffic on the road that it felt as if the whole of China was traveling together.”

Historic traffic jams have taken place in China before too

This is not the first time that such a big traffic problem has been seen in China. In 2010, the world’s longest traffic jam was recorded on the Beijing-Tibet Expressway. This jam, which occurred on August 14, 2010, was more than 100 kilometers long and lasted for 12 days. Then hundreds of trucks broke down on the road, due to which thousands of vehicles and passengers were stranded on the highway for 12 consecutive days. People had to buy food items from local vendors at expensive prices.

For the last few years, the concept of aerial taxi is being developed. Dubai has successfully completed the first Test flight of the aerial taxi. It can be better for transport in cities. Fully electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft have been used for this.

This does not require a large landing area. This aerial taxi is designed for zero-imports and fast travel between cities. Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Makhtum Said That this achievement shows Dubai’s commitment to put forward the UAE in a major change technologies. The aircraft used for aerial taxi is up to 160 km. Its top speed is about 320 kilometers per hour.

The use of this aerial taxi will take only 12 minutes to reach Palm Jumera from Dubai International Airport. It takes about 45 minutes to travel by car between these two places. Dubai’s Rhodes and Transport Authority has partnered with Joby Aviation for aerial taxi. Commercial flights of aerial taxi may begin next year. For this, the station is being built near Dubai International Airport. This project is part of the strategy to improve advanced transport solutions under Dubai Economic Agenda D33.

Joeben Bevirt, the founder and chief executive officer of Joby Aviation, said, “Dubai acts as a launchpad for international revolution in mobility. Flying our aircraft here is a significant step towards introducing the aerial taxi with the run of a day-to-day life. Dubai is the first city in the world to offer air mobility services through advanced vertical take-off and landing infrastructure. China’s Electric Vehicle (EV) maker Xpeng tested ‘X2 Flying Car’ in Dubai about three years ago. However, this project has not moved forward. In some other countries, work is being done on the concept of flying car.

Tata Motors, one of the large automobile companies, have started a trial of trucks using hydrogen as fuel. Most trucks in the country run on diesel. This is a major cause of pollution. The use of diesel may also reduce the import of fuel of the country.

Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Tata motors The Executive Director (Commercial Vehicles), Girish Wagh sent 16 hydrogen trucks for the trial on the road for the next two years. These trucks will run on some of the busiest routes of the freight. These include the routes of Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune and Jamshedpur. On this occasion, Gadkari said, “Hydrogen has the ability to bring a big change in the transportation sector to reduce the emission in hydrogen and increase self-reliance on energy. It is a fuel of the future. This will increase the speed of sustainable mobility in heavy-duty trucking and we will move towards an affidavit and low carbon.”

Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, Tata Motors has obtained a tender for trials of hydrogen trucks from the Ministry of Renewable Energy. These trucks have an internal combustion engine as well as fuel cells. Their range is about 500 km. Hydrogen-powered trucks have advanced driver-assistant safety features that will make it easier for drivers during the trial period. Tata Motors’ hydrogen -powered 15 buses are already being tried.

Tata Motors’ Wagh says, “As a prolonged commitment company of nation building, we have continued innovation in the mobility solutions that contributed to India’s growth and development. We are proud to carry forward this heritage in clean and long distance transportation with trials of hydrogen -powered trucks.” Tata Motors also has a leading place in the market of electric vehicles (EV). Recently, the manufacturing of the company’s EV Unit Tata.Ev was more than two lakh units. Tata.ev’s portfolio includes punch Ev, Tiago Ev Tigor Ev and CurvV EV. The company also plans to bring the EV version of the Harrier. <!--
