RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra has announced that now you can invest in Treasury Bills i.e. T-Bills through SIP (Systematic Investment Plan)-and that too directly from RBI’s Retail Direct Platform. T-Bills are government short-term debut securities with maturity of 14, 91, 182 or 364 days. They invest at least ₹ 25,000 and are purchased at discounts – that is, you get full face value on maturity. For example, if you bought for ₹ 128, you will get ₹ 130 on maturity. RBI’s Retail Direct platform was launched in 2021, where you can invest directly in G-SECs, SGBs and now T-Bills without a broker. Now with the option of SIP, you can invest a disciplind and safe investment by applying a little amount every month. Yes, keep in mind that they are slightly less liquid, that is, it can be difficult to withdraw money before maturity.
