Actually, in the year 2018, Vishal Bhardwaj had told through a post why his previous film was delayed. He had written that both the lead actors were not well at that time. Irrfan Khan had jaundice and was taking time to recover, while Deepika Padukone was suffering from severe back pain.

Vishal had said in his post that Deepika’s character was quite physically demanding and her back problem that had started during the shooting of Padmaavat had resurfaced. Doctors had advised him not to do any heavy or tiring work for a few months. For this reason the shooting of the film had to be extended. He also told that the look tests of Irrfan and Deepika were amazing and it took a moment to recognize them after seeing the pictures.

At that time some people had claimed that this film was Sapna Didi’s biopic. However, Vishal Bhardwaj had clearly denied these reports. He had said that this film is not based on the life of any real person. Yes, its story is definitely inspired by the story Dame Fatale from Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, but while working on the script, the story took a completely different form. That’s why it was not anyone’s biopic. Deepika also replaced from ‘Spirit’

According to reports, Deepika Padukone walked out of the project due to some conditions, after which Trupti Dimri was cast in the film.
