Amid the ongoing conflict over Sir Creek, 20-25 Indian warships and more than 40 fighter jets are taking part in India’s tri-exercise Trishul (30 October-13 November) organized in Rajasthan, Gujarat and the Arabian Sea adjacent to the Pakistan border. Along with this, the Southern Command of the Army (Headquarters Pune), BSF and Coast Guard are also participating with full strength.

Indian Navy’s Director General of Naval Operations (DGNO) N Pramod told during a press conference on Friday (October 31, 2025) that the objective of this exercise is to create synergy between all the Maritime Forces and Armed Forces in a large complex environment, so that in case of war, there is complete coordination and cooperation between the Armed Forces and Central Agencies.

NOTAM issued in North Arabian Sea

For the first time after Operation Sindoor, all three wings of the army i.e. Army, Air Force and Navy are conducting joint exercises. Regarding this exercise, India has issued NOTAM i.e. Notice to Airmen in Gujarat, Rajasthan and North Arabian Sea, so that there is no violation of air-space during the exercise.

This is the first time in recent years that a joint exercise of India’s tri-services i.e. all three parts of the army is being conducted on the western border. Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and the fighter aircraft deployed on it MiG-29K are also taking part in this exercise.

Indian Air Force airbases taking part

The South-Western Command of the Indian Air Force (Headquarters Gandhinagar) and all the airbases in the region are participating in the exercise. According to the information, MiG-29, Sukhoi, Mirage and Jaguar fighter jets of the Air Force are taking part.

Apart from fighter planes, reconnaissance aircraft and military transport aircraft are also part of the exercise. Vice Admiral Pramod also informed that apart from traditional war, this war-game has also been organized in cyber and space domain.

Pakistan scared by Defense Minister’s warning

In recent times, tension has increased between India and Pakistan regarding Sir Creek area of ​​Gujarat. On the occasion of Dussehra, Rajnath reached Sir Creek and performed Shastra Puja and warned Pakistan to desist from any kind of nefarious activities in this area.

Rajnath had revealed that Pakistan has been keeping an eye on this area since the 1965 war. This is the reason why Pakistan is increasing its military deployment in its jurisdiction of Sir Creek. Rajnath had clearly said that if Pakistan made any mis-adventure in Sir Creek, then like the 1971 war, the history and geography of Pakistan would be completely changed.

Pakistan stirs in Sir Creek after Defense Minister’s visit

The Defense Minister had even said that the road to Karachi also passes through Sir Creek. Soon after Rajnath Singh’s visit, Pakistani Navy Chief Naved Ashraf reached Sir Creek and deployed three hovercraft here.

The decades-old tension between India and Pakistan has now extended beyond Jammu and Kashmir and LoC to the Sir Creek area of ​​Gujarat. The Trishul exercise of the Indian Army will run from 30 October to 10 November. During this time, due to major air and ground activities on the Rajasthan-Gujarat border, India has issued NOTAM (Notice to Airmen). Pakistan has also banned flights over its southern and central parts, possibly for its military exercises or missile testing. Although India has described it as an ‘annual routine exercise’, its timing, location and scale indicate that it is also a strategic message to Pakistan. The marshy area of ​​Sir Creek is now taking a prominent place in India’s defense strategy.

What is Sir Creek dispute?

Sir Creek is a 96 km long tidal flat located between the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat and the Sindh province of Pakistan. This area is important because it is from here that the maritime boundary (Exclusive Economic Zone – EEZ) of both the countries is decided, which extends for 370 kilometers into the Arabian Sea. India claims that the border passes through the middle of Sir Creek, while Pakistan says that the eastern edge is the border, giving it control over the entire area. This dispute has not been resolved even after dozens of meetings since 1969.

Increased military activities and warnings

Recently, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had warned Pakistan that ‘if Pakistan takes any action in Sir Creek, its response will change both history and geography.’ After this, Pakistan Navy Chief also visited Sir Creek area. India is concerned about the expansion of Pakistani military infrastructure and construction of new posts in this area.

Why is Sir Creek important?

Sir Creek is very important for the security of India’s western coast because it is near India’s naval and air bases. In recent years, incidents of suspicious boats coming from Pakistan have also increased here, which makes it a possible infiltration route. According to experts, now that infiltration routes into Kashmir have become difficult, Pakistan may try new moves through coastal routes. India’s Trishul exercise is being conducted keeping this potential threat in mind, so that any maritime or asymmetric attack can be responded to immediately.
