Government came into action

An official statement said that this week, a session has been scheduled for talks with businessmen of many industry from chemicals to gems and jewelery on behalf of the Union Ministry of Commerce. Its purpose is to discuss with all these people and move forward towards the new market.

The news agency PTI, citing a government official, said that the Export Promotion Scheme was announced during the budget 2025-26, work is being done by taking fast steps on it. He said that the ministry will meet with stakeholders regarding the diversification of exports within the next two to three days.

48 billion business will be affected

India exports about 20 percent of its total exports to the US. During the last financial year i.e. 2024-25, India was exported to $ 437.42 billion.

Since 2021-22, India is considered to be the major trading partner of America. Bilateral trade between the two countries has increased to $ 131.8 billion in 2024-25, out of which 86.5 billion exports and 45.3 billion were imported.

It is believed that applying 50 percent tariff on Indian goods will directly affect the export of about $ 48 billion. The sector on which this tariff has been installed includes textiles, gems and jewelery, leather and shoes, goods made of animals, chemicals and electric and machinery. However, electronics goods, energy products and pharmaceuticals are excluded from this scope.

SBI Report on US Tariffs: US President Donald Trump put 25 percent tariffs on India’s first base tariff and then 25 percent i.e. 50 percent tariffs as a penalty due to buying oil from Russia. It has become effective on Indian goods from today i.e. 27 August 2025 in the morning of 27 August 2025. But by doing this, Trump himself has killed an ax on his leg.

According to the report of State Bank of India, the upsurge to impose high tariffs on India may fall on America and its economy can go into the abyss. Also, where inflation will increase, on the other hand, growth can be a big shock.

The news agency ANI has cited the SBI report, stating that the new tariff may fall to 40-50 basis points due to the new tariff. Apart from this, inflation is also going to increase tremendously due to the increase in weak US dollar and cost prices.

Us tarifs impact on textile sector: The additional 25 percent tariff as a panalty installed by US President Donald Trump has become effective today i.e. on Wednesday morning at 9.11 am. Indian goods were already getting 25 percent tariff in the US, in such a situation, after the additional 25 percent tariff, now the total rates have increased to 50 percent. This additional tariff from President Trump has been imposed on India due to buying cheap oil from Russia. India has been continuously saying that it has been unnecessarily imposed.

Earlier on Monday, a draft was issued for the US Department of Homeland Security to put 50 percent tariff on Indian goods. In such a situation, after the high tariff, the President is hoping that his Russian equivalent President Vladimir Putin will be pressurized and will help in his attempt to stop the war with Ukraine.

PM’s emphasis on Swadeshi

On the other hand, PM Modi insisted on Swadeshi during a meeting on Tuesday. He said that my side is very simple. I am not worried about whose money it is, it is dollar or where has it come from and where it came from … but it is important that both hard work and sweets should be of Indian.

The US has issued a formal notification to impose 25 percent additional tariffs on goods imported from India. This new tariff will be effective from August 27, 2025 at 12:01 pm (Indian time at 9:30 am). In the notification issued by the Trump administration, it has been said that this tariff is associated with the threats given by the Russian government to the US and under this India has been targeted.

What goods will be discount on

The effect of the new tariff can be seen on areas like jewelery, sea food, carpet, furniture chemicals, and auto parts. Some areas like human aids such as food, pharmaceuticals are still exempted from it. The goods which are in transit loaded on the ship before 27 August 2025 and reach America by 17 September 2025 will not put exemption on exemption.

Books, movies, posters, records, photos, CDs, art work will be exempted from additional tariffs. Some special sectors which have already been included in other executive orders, such as iron, steel, almunium, passenger vehicle, copper products will be discount on these items.

India, America’s third largest exporter

Donald Trump wants India to enter the US in its agriculture and dairy markets, but the Modi government has made it clear that it will take decisive steps to protect the interests of the farmers of the country.

India and Vietnam are the third largest exporter in the US after 9 per cent. In the last five years, India has increased its market share in the US on the price of China, which has increased from 6 per cent to 9 per cent, while China’s stake has come down from 38 per cent to 25 per cent.
