US President Donald Trump has again changed the global tariff. Trump posted on social media that America is now increasing the 10 percent tariff imposed on countries around the world to 15 percent. Trump said that many countries have looted America for decades and this decision has been taken in response to that. Trump has taken this step after the decision of the US Supreme Court in which it ruled against the tariffs imposed under the Economic Emergency Act.

Trump will announce legal tariffs legally

The US President said that his government took this step within the ambit of law and it has been used before also. According to Trump, tariff policy is very important to strengthen America’s economy and protect domestic industries. By mentioning Make America Great Again in his post, he indicated that America is going to announce legal tariffs in the coming time.

Many countries looted America: Trump

Donald Trump posted on Truth Social and said, ‘As President of the United States, I am increasing the global tariff of 10 percent to 15 percent with immediate effect. Until I came, many countries were looting America for decades without any penalty. “Over the next few months, the Trump Administration will set new and legal tariffs that will continue our successful process of Making America Great Again.”

Section 122 of the US Trade Act 1974 allows the President to impose a tariff of up to 15 percent for a maximum of 150 days. However, it has some limitations. Under Section 122, no tariff can exceed 15 percent and cannot remain in force for more than 150 days without the approval of the US Congress.

US Supreme Court calls Trump’s tariffs illegal

The US Supreme Court on Friday (20 February 2026) had declared the tariffs imposed by Trump as illegal. The US President described the court’s decision as shameful and said that he did not expect such a decision. Donald Trump said that the Supreme Court’s decision on tariffs is extremely disappointing and he is extremely ashamed of some members of the court because they do not have the courage to do the right thing in the interest of our country. He said that the court has been influenced by foreign interests and a political movement that is much smaller than people think. This is a small movement.

Trump imposed global tariff after court decision

Trump said, ‘The court bowed to foreign interests. We have more options on tariffs. The goal is to make America great again. The court’s decisions are wrong, but it does not matter. Now will use the second option. Maybe we could charge more. We can stop trade with any country. An additional 10 percent global tariff will be imposed on all countries. My strength increased further due to the decision of the Supreme Court. Now Trump increased this tariff by 5 percent to 15 percent.

America has implemented 10% global tariff with immediate effect. A White House official has confirmed that this tariff will remain in effect until another legal authority is implemented. India will also be included among the countries paying 10% tariff under this new system. When the official was asked whether India would have to pay 10% tariff and whether it would replace the old tariff imposed under IEEPA (International Emergency Economic Powers Act), he clearly said, ‘Yes, 10 percent will remain in force until any other authority comes into force.’ The official also advised all trade partners to abide by the trade agreements made with the US.

According to ANI report, this decision has come at a time when the US Supreme Court, with a majority of 6-3, gave a big blow to the Trump administration. The court said that under the IEEPA Act of 1977, the President does not have explicit authority to impose blanket import duties. According to the Constitution, this power rests with Congress. Chief Justice John Roberts along with Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett and three justices joined the majority. Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh dissented and supported the administration’s powers. This decision has invalidated billions of dollars of “reciprocal” and tariffs. It is estimated that the government may have to face refund claims ranging from 130 to 175 billion dollars.

Trump called the decision ludicrous

President Trump described the Supreme Court’s decision as terrible and ludicrous. He said, ‘The court said that I cannot take even 1 dollar under IEEPA. I can close down business, end the country’s trade system, but can’t impose a $1 fee, how ridiculous is this?’ Trump alleged that the court is influenced by foreign interests and said that other countries are happy with this decision, but will not dance for long.

New tariff under section 122

After the Supreme Court’s decision, Trump announced signing an executive order to impose a 10 percent global tariff under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974. This provision allows for the imposition of a temporary tax of up to 15 per cent for 150 days, specifically to address the balance-of-payments deficit. Trump clarified that the tariffs already implemented under Section 232 (national security) and Section 301 (unfair trade practices) will remain in full effect.

Impact on India-US trade agreement

Trump said the ongoing India deal, which reduced reciprocal tariffs to 18%, would be maintained under the new legal process. This situation could be complicated for India, because the 10% global tariff will be applicable on top of the existing duties. This may affect exports, especially steel, aluminium, auto parts and textile sectors.
