US-India Tariffs: Three US lawmakers have taken a big step against the heavy tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on imports from India. Three members of the US House of Representatives introduced a resolution on Friday, the purpose of which is to end Trump’s national emergency declaration.

Demand to remove additional duties imposed on India

According to the statement issued, this proposal demands cancellation of the additional 25 percent secondary duty imposed on India, which was imposed on August 27, 2025. This duty was imposed on top of the reciprocal tariffs already in place, increasing the total import duty on many Indian products to 50 percent. This action was taken under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

Krishnamurthy stressed, ‘Eliminating these tariffs will help strengthen economic and security cooperation between the US and India.’

Democrats’ effort to challenge Trump’s trade policy

The result is that the trade deficit between the two countries is more than $ 60 billion.
