A senior Iranian official has said that Tehran considers the recent war with the US as the first military victory in its 47-year history. He said that this result has changed Iran’s position in peace talks with America and has also presented a kind of test for Donald Trump.

Mohsen Rezaei, a military adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mujabata Khamenei, told CNN, ‘This is the first time that Iran has won a battle, whereas before this it has always lost.’

Mohsen Rezai says that talks between the two countries are currently stalled and the situation remains tense due to a weak ceasefire. He also said that the final peace agreement is dependent on the US government releasing $24 billion from Iran’s frozen funds.

Iran will target American targets

Iran wants that after the interim agreement, $12 billion should be released in the first phase and $12 billion in the second phase. Rezai says that releasing this money will prove that America is ready for compromise. He said, ‘Now the decision is in Trump’s hands.’ Rezai also said that if there is another war with America, Iran will target American bases and the conflict could escalate further. He said the impact of war could spread from the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, although he also said the likelihood of war was low.

Meeting between Mojtaba Khamenei and Donald Trump

Rezai made it clear that there will be no direct meeting between Mujhbata Khamenei and Donald Trump. Iran has also talked about jointly managing the Strait of Hormuz with Oman. Iran also alleged that America has already backed out from agreements, so it is not easy to trust any future nuclear deal.

US President Donald Trump has made it clear before the peace talks with Iran to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan that his biggest goal is to ensure that Iran does not have nuclear weapons. Vice President JD Vance reached Islamabad

Meanwhile, America, on its part, has sent Vice President JD Vance to Islamabad, who will lead talks with Iranian officials. Along with him, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner are also part of this team. This team has reached Pakistan after staying in Paris. On the other hand, from Iran’s side, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have reached Islamabad to participate in the talks. Vance said during the visit that he expected positive results from the talks, but that if Iran tried to manipulate, the US team would take a tough stance.

Difficult to trust America – Iran

Iran has also made it clear that it is ready for talks, but it does not trust America. Ghalibaf said that Iran’s intentions are good, but due to past experiences it is difficult to trust America, because promises have been broken during talks in the past also. Iran has also put forward some conditions. He says that talks will move forward only when a ceasefire is implemented in Lebanon and Iran’s assets stored abroad are released. At the same time, America and Israel say that Lebanon is not a part of this ceasefire, due to which the issue has become more complicated.

Trump had claimed to have talked

On Monday morning, a few hours before the markets opened, Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social. He said that Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure will not be attacked for five days while the talks continue. Earlier, Trump had threatened that if Iran does not open the Strait of Hormuz, these bases will be completely destroyed.

‘There was no discussion’

Contrary to Trump’s claims, Iran clearly said that no such talks took place. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf wrote on social media platform X that no talks have taken place with America. He said that all this is “fake news”, which is being used to influence the financial and oil markets. He also alleged that such things are being spread to get out of the difficult situation in which America and Israel are stuck.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday (7 February 2026) that talks with America are expected to resume, but at the same time he made it clear that Iran will not make any compromise on issues related to its national security. In an interview given to Al Jazeera network, Araghchi warned that if America attacked Iran, Tehran would target American military bases in the region.

Abbas Araghchi said that Iran’s missile program was not within the scope of discussion during the talks held on Friday in Muscat, Oman. He clearly said that Iran’s ballistic missile program is entirely a defense issue and it is never open for negotiation. Iran’s stand for a long time has been that apart from the nuclear issue, no other topic will be included in the talks.

Netanyahu’s meeting with Trump and increasing tension

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is going to meet US President Donald Trump in Washington next week. According to the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu will raise the issue of Iran’s ballistic missile program and its affiliated organizations operating in the region in this meeting. Criticizing Israel’s stance, Iran said that on one hand Israel is increasing its weapons stockpile and on the other hand it is pressurizing other countries in the region for disarmament.

Amid Iran-US tensions, US officials Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier deployed in the Arabian Sea. According to the US Central Command, this visit reflects America’s military presence in the region. Araghchi said that the nuclear program is Iran’s right and it should continue. He also said that Iran is ready for a credible agreement on enrichment. According to him, Iran’s nuclear issue can be resolved only through dialogue.

Death figures in protests

The security situation in Iran is also in discussion amid the large protests that have taken place in recent months. Iranian officials have admitted that 3,117 people have died in these demonstrations and have released a list of 2,986 names. International organizations claim that the actual number is much higher. According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, so far 6,961 deaths have been confirmed and more than 51,000 arrests have been made.
