US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that during the increasing tension between India and Pakistan, he had talked to the Prime Ministers of both the countries and after that the war-like situation was averted. Trump said this during his recent address.

Trump said, “I am making a trade deal with India. I have an excellent relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I respect him a lot and have true affection for him. The Prime Minister of Pakistan is also a good person. He says he has a ‘Field Marshal’, who is a very brave warrior.”

He further said, “I heard that seven aircraft have been shot down in the skirmish between the two countries. Both of them are nuclear powers. I called Prime Minister Modi and said that we cannot do a trade deal with you because you are preparing for war with Pakistan. Then I told the same thing to Pakistan. Both of them said let us fight, but I explained to both of them.”

Trump said this in a funny tone

Trump further said in a humorous tone, “Prime Minister Modi is one of the smartest and toughest leaders. Tough as hell. But finally, within two days, both countries contacted me and said they understood and the fight stopped. Isn’t that wonderful?” In his speech, Trump took a jibe at current US President Joe Biden and said, “Could Biden have done this? I don’t think so.”

Improvement in India-US relations

Recently, there were three talks between Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. First time to wish PM Modi on his birthday, second time during the discussion on Gaza Agreement and third time on the occasion of Diwali. To maintain this warmth between the two leaders, a solid trade agreement is considered important. The Indian side has said that talks are going on on this, while the American side said that the talks have been fruitful, but consensus has not been reached yet on some major issues.

Former Ambassador of India Javed Ashraf said, ‘I think it is a very welcome step, because recent references like the end of India-Pakistan struggle or taking credit for it have been missing and now the entire focus is mainly focused on importing India’s crude oil from Russia, which has been described as the root cause of differences. So I think that today’s statement has gradually softened. We have seen something positive, but we still have to be optimistic expressing precautions because this is just the first step.

He said, ‘It has two things to pay special attention, first, President Trump is often accustomed to changing his thoughts and he too does this through social media. So we have to keep it in mind. This is a step to move forward. Second, we also have to obey that the tariff is still in force and we have to take this issue seriously, because the real test will be when we face this difficulty.

Prime Minister Modi gave a restrained reply on Trump’s remarks- Javed Ashraf

Ashraf said, ‘If we talk about the Indian side, then we have always made comments based on facts in this difficult period. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also responded to President Trump’s words in a really restrained and positive manner. The Prime Minister’s response shows the fact that there is no dispute from our side and now it is on America how it resolves it.

India always ready for talks- Ashraf

He said, ‘I think that now in America too, it is understanding that India will never compromise on its basic interests and will not accept any demand of America, which affects our national interest. When this understanding is completely sitting, then a more serious attitude will be revealed for us. As we have said earlier, we are always ready to talk. We have also given an ambitious proposal related to business to America. So now it is completely on America how it removes its internal differences with India.
