US President Donald Trump has once again given a big statement regarding Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. He has said that America has no need of oil through this sea route and the countries which are dependent on it should themselves take responsibility for it. Trump said in his address that America does not import oil from the Strait of Hormuz and there will be no need for it in the future. He clearly said that the countries of the world which take oil through this route, should protect this route themselves and maintain it.

According to Trump, he warned Iran about Hormuz because many countries had backed out from supporting America on this issue. He said that the countries which are dependent on oil from this route should come forward and take responsibility for its security, while America will help them. He also said that America itself has enough oil, so other countries can buy oil from America if they want. Apart from this, while targeting those countries, he said that they should have shown courage earlier and should have supported America in this matter.

Where is the Strait of Hormuz located?

The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea and is one of the world’s most important oil transport routes. About 25 percent of the world’s global oil passes through this route. This is even more important for countries like India, because about 80 percent of its energy supply is connected to this route. According to reports, Iran has closed this route especially for the ships of America and its allied countries, due to which the movement of hundreds of ships passing through daily has been affected. This includes ships carrying containers, dry goods and oil and gas. Trump believes that after the current conflict ends, this sea route will automatically reopen. At present, after this statement, there is a possibility of further increase in war in the Middle East.

South Korea did not take the decision

South Korea has also not taken any decision yet on Trump’s request. On Sunday (March 15), South Korea’s presidential office said the country would ‘communicate closely with the US on this matter and make a decision after careful review.’

Even Japan is not ready

Japan also does not seem to be launching any kind of security operation in the current situation. Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi clearly said in parliament on Monday (March 16), ‘In the current situation in Iran, we are not currently considering launching a maritime security operation.’

Australia also refused

Australia has also refused to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz. Cabinet member Catherine King also refused to send naval ships to the Strait of Hormuz in an interview with state broadcaster ABC on Monday (16 March).

China’s stance is not clear

A spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington did not say whether Beijing would accept Trump’s request, but said all parties have a responsibility to ensure stable and uninterrupted energy supplies.
