US President Donald Trump on Thursday (January 8) gave a stern warning to the Iranian regime, saying that if the authorities show too much strictness on the protests, do things like killing protesters, then America will take strict action.

Trump said in an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt, ‘I have told them that if they start killing people, as they do during their riots, they are going to have a lot of riots. If they do this, we will punish them severely.

They will have to face dire consequences – Trump
This warning from the US President comes amid increasing unrest in Iran, where demonstrations are taking place in many cities due to the worsening economic crisis. Human rights activists say at least 45 people have been killed in clashes related to the protests, raising international concerns over Tehran’s handling of the unrest. When Hewitt said that dozens of people were killed during protests in Iran. On this Trump said that some deaths were due to stampede. I’m not sure I can hold anyone responsible for this, but they have been told very sternly that if they do so they will have to face dire consequences.

Trump called Iran a great country
When Trump was asked what his message was to Iran’s anti-government protesters, Trump said that you (Iranian people) should have a strong belief in freedom. You are brave people. What has happened to your country is shameful. Your country was a great country.

What did Trump say about meeting Pahlavi?
Trump also said that at present he has no intention of meeting Reza Pahlavi. He said, ‘I have seen him and he seems like a nice person, but I don’t think it would be appropriate to meet him right now.’ Trump further said, ‘I think we should give everyone a chance and see who comes forward.’
