US President Donald Trump presided over the Board of Peace program in Washington. During this, he announced to spend billions of dollars for the reconstruction of Gaza. During the program, Trump welcomed Paraguay’s President Santiago Pena and jokingly said, ‘It is always good to be young and handsome. This does not mean that we have to like you. I don’t like young, handsome men. I love women. I have no interest in men. Everyone present at the program started laughing at this comment. Let us tell you that 47-year-old Santiago Pena is the youngest President of Paraguay’s democratic era. He is an economist and former finance minister and is running for president as the Colorado Party candidate in August 2023.

US President Trump announced that America will give 10 billion dollars for the reconstruction of Gaza. He said that the aim of this initiative is to bring stability and peace in the region. According to the White House, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have also promised to give at least $1 billion each. Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said a total of more than $6.5 billion in pledges had been received, although it was not made clear whether this included the entire amount from the United States.

new global body

The Board of Peace was inaugurated in the former United States Institute of Peace headquarters, which has been redesigned by the Trump administration. The President will have veto power in this body and he can remain its head even after leaving office.

Countries wishing to become permanent members for more than two years will have to contribute $1 billion. This initiative has come after the ceasefire agreement brokered by Egypt and Qatar, which was prepared after a long conflict between Israel and Hamas. The next phase of the plan also includes a provision for reduction of weapons in Hamas.

US President Donald Trump formally announced the proposed Board of Peace on Thursday (22 January 2026) on the sidelines of the annual conference of the World Economic Forum in Davos. During this time India was not present on the stage. India had received an invitation to join the initiative, but has not yet officially accepted or rejected the proposal. However, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif was present at the signing ceremony.

To whom did both of them point from the stage?

While signing Trump’s Board of Peace, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif whispered something in the ear of the US President. After this, both the leaders started laughing by pointing towards the crowd sitting in front. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who grew up at the mercy of America, does not leave any chance to appear close to Trump.

Apart from India, these countries did not participate

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among several global leaders invited by the US President to join the board announced as part of the phase two ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Apart from India, France, Britain, China, Germany and many other major countries also remained absent from the unveiling ceremony of the ‘Peace Board’ despite invitation.

Will help in solving wars in the world: Trump

While addressing the unveiling ceremony, Trump described this board as a very unique initiative for the world. “This board, together with the United Nations, can help resolve wars not only in West Asia, but elsewhere too,” he said at a ceremony to mark the signing of the board’s manifesto. However, he did not clarify how the board would cooperate with the United Nations.

Which countries are included in Trump’s peace board?

India is pushing for a ‘two-state solution’ to the Palestine issue, in which Israel and Palestine live side by side in peace and security within recognized borders. The countries joining the peace board include Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Egypt, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia and Vietnam. Many countries including Germany, Italy, Paraguay, Russia, Slovenia, Turkey and Ukraine have not yet given any clear response despite the invitation.

Purpose of America’s Peace Board

Trump’s ‘Peace Board’ is being projected by the US as a new international body to bring peace and stability in Gaza and beyond. This initiative is leading to speculation that the ‘Peace Board’ may emerge as a rival body to the United Nations. Originally, this ‘peace board’ was to be tasked with overseeing governance and coordinating funding for the reconstruction of Gaza, which has been devastated by the Israeli military’s crackdown over the past two years.

US President Donald Trump has once again taken a big step in international politics. Eight major Muslim countries on Wednesday (21 January 2026) announced to join the Board of Peace formed by Trump. With this decision, a new debate has started regarding the arrangement after the Gaza war and the resolution of global disputes.

Muslim countries included in Trump’s Board of Peace include Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar and United Arab Emirates. All these countries have agreed to send their representatives to the board. This board has been created under a special mandate of the United Nations Security Council, whose primary objective is to monitor the post-war situation in Gaza. The time limit of this board has been fixed till 2027.

Trump’s big plan ahead of Gaza

Although the current focus of the board is Gaza, Donald Trump does not want to limit it only to this area. Trump intends to make this platform a center for resolving major disputes and conflicts around the world in the future. For this reason, he has emphasized on including those countries which are considered to have influence in global politics.

Why America is considering this as its diplomatic victory

The most special thing about this board is that it will be headed by Donald Trump himself for life. To become a permanent member, each country will have to pay a membership fee of one billion dollars. The board will hold a limited number of meetings a year, while a separate Gaza Executive Board has been formed to handle Gaza-related matters.

Linking Saudi Arabia to this initiative is being considered a major diplomatic achievement for Trump. Trump had been appealing to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to join this board for a long time. After Riyadh’s consent, the White House is presenting it as a major success.

Russia’s entry increased the stir

Meanwhile, Trump has also revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted the invitation to join this board. According to Trump, only those people who have real power and influence will be included in the board. He said in a joking tone that if only weak or ineffective people are kept in it, no concrete results will be achieved.

Concern increased in western countries

There is uneasiness visible in many western countries regarding this initiative of Trump. Some diplomats believe that this board could weaken the traditional role of the United Nations. The Prime Minister of Slovenia has made it clear that his country will not be a part of this board. They argue that its scope is too wide and it could harm the existing structure of the United Nations.

Common message of Muslim countries

The eight Muslim countries included in the board have said in a joint statement that they are supporters of a just and lasting peace based on the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and an independent state. He believes that this initiative can prove to be an important step towards stability and security in West Asia.

How many countries have received invitation

According to the information, invitations have been sent to about 60 countries to join the ‘Board of Peace’. Israel, Egypt, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Morocco, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam have already agreed to join. Whereas Sweden, Norway and Italy have distanced themselves from this board. Spain says that European countries are deciding a collective stand on this issue.

Pope also got invitation

This initiative can be gauged from the fact that Pope Leo has also been invited to join the Board of Peace. The Vatican has said that this proposal is being considered and no decision will be taken without a complete review.

Also read: ‘Yes, I am a dictator, the world needs it’, Trump created a stir with his statement in Davos
