US President Donald Trump has once again praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi openly. He made this statement during the Gaza Peace Summit held in Egypt, in which Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif was also present.

Trump said in his address, “India is a great country, with my very good friend at the helm. He has done a wonderful job.” After this, he expressed confidence in the relations between India and Pakistan and said, “I think India and Pakistan will live together very well now.” Trump looked at Sharif smilingly and asked, “Right?” To which Sharif smiled and nodded.

In his statement before the Gaza Summit, Shahbaz Sharif had given credit to Trump for stopping the war between India and Pakistan. In this context, Trump claimed that he had threatened to impose tariffs up to 200% to avoid war between India and Pakistan.

I think that Pakistan and India are going to live very nicely together…”

What did Trump say?

Trump had said, “I said if you two want to go to war and you have nuclear weapons, I will tax you both 100%, 150%, 200%. He said no, no, don’t do that and I resolved the matter in 24 hours.” However, India has already clarified that any ceasefire or ceasefire decision was taken with mutual consent by both the countries and not with the interference of any third country.

Shahbaz Sharif again demands Nobel for Trump

Shahbaz Sharif reiterated his demand to give Nobel Peace Prize to Trump for stopping the war. He said, “The contribution of Trump and his team to establishing peace between India and Pakistan is extraordinary.” In fact, Pakistan had earlier also nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for Diplomatic Intervention and Leadership. However, this award for 2026 went to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.

This time the discussion about the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2025 revolved entirely around US President Donald Trump, but he has been disappointed. Trump described himself as a “messenger of peace” and called him a suitable candidate for this award. Maria Corina Machado, known as the Iron Lady of Venezuela, has become the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump was nominated by many countries and leaders. His role in the Israel-Hamas ceasefire was made the basis for his claim.

Which countries nominated Trump?

Trump’s nominations came from many continents. Some countries even supported him despite each other’s opposition. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formally nominated Trump and said his role in the Gaza ceasefire and the Abraham Accords was historic. The Pakistan government also put forward his name, saying he contributed to reducing India-Pakistan border tensions, although India rejected this. Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet and the Government of Rwanda praised his role in resolving regional conflicts. Armenia and Azerbaijan also supported their efforts after the ceasefire.

American lawmakers from the United States and Europe, including Anna Paulina Luna, Buddy Carter, Darrell Issa, and Claudia Tenney, sent nominations praising his role in the Abraham Accords. Malta’s Foreign Minister Ian Borg proposed Trump’s name to lead peace efforts from Gaza to the Caucasus.

Are late nominations valid?
The Nobel Committee sets the last date for nominations as 31 January every year. Many of Trump’s nominations this year came after this date. According to Reuters report, the committee decides the winners before the announcement, so subsequent events or new nominations are not affected.

Trump’s peace claims and reality

Trump says that he resolved seven wars during his tenure. “We have ended seven wars and are nearing the eighth,” he said recently. Maybe they will find some excuse not to give me this award.” However, according to a TIME magazine report, only four of the seven conflicts he mentioned were actual wars. Israel-Iran, India-Pakistan, Armenia-Azerbaijan and Rwanda-Congo. The remaining disputes were only at the diplomatic level. India clearly said that the India-Pakistan ceasefire happened without American mediation.

Trump’s image

Trump claimed that he is the president of the 21st century who did not start any new war. This is true, but during his tenure, incidents like drone attacks, targeted killings and the assassination of Iranian General Qasim Suleimani (2020) also happened, so analysts had said that Trump’s image has been of strategic and aggressive diplomacy rather than peace.

Nobel Committee rules

The selection process of the Nobel Committee is completely confidential. The name of the nominated person or organization is not made public for 50 years. The Committee generally recognizes long-term and collaborative peace efforts. If Trump successfully implements a permanent peace agreement in the future, his name can again become a strong contender for 2026 or 2027.

Also read: Nobel Peace Prize 2025: Will Trump get Nobel or not? Who will decide, how someone is selected, know the process
