American politics and economy are currently at a very sensitive juncture. President Donald Trump’s much talked about tariff policy has now directly reached the doorstep of the US Supreme Court. This matter is not only legal, but its impact extends to America’s economic structure, the global trade system and Trump’s political credibility.

The real controversy centers on whether the Trump administration properly used its emergency powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The Trump government had imposed large-scale import duties citing national security. America recovered hundreds of billions of dollars from these tariffs and put economic pressure on many countries. This case is also historic because for the first time the US Supreme Court will decide what is the limit of the President’s emergency power. If the court sets clear limits, then no future president will be able to impose arbitrary tariffs like this.

America will be ruined – the real reason behind Trump’s warning

Donald Trump’s statement that America will be ruined if the Supreme Court goes against us is not just political rhetoric. Solid economic calculations and political compulsions are hidden behind this. Trump clearly said on his social media platform Truth Social that if the court cancels the tariffs, America may have to return hundreds of billions of dollars already recovered. Not only this, companies and countries which have set up factories, plants and equipment in America to avoid tariffs can also demand compensation. According to Trump, when all these possible claims are added, the loss could reach trillions of dollars. This amount can take America’s budget deficit to explosive levels. Such a huge refund would be almost impossible not only financially but also administratively. Apart from this, Trump’s entire America First policy has been based on tariffs. If this policy falls in the Supreme Court, it will raise direct questions on Trump’s leadership. This is the reason why he is trying to create pressure by showing the picture of possible devastation to the public even before the decision.

What will happen if the Supreme Court decides against Trump?

If the US Supreme Court declares Trump’s tariff policy illegal, its consequences will not be limited to America only. This will also affect the global economy. First, the US government may have to pay hundreds of billions of dollars in tariff refunds. This will put huge pressure on the government treasury and the budget deficit will increase rapidly. The second major blow will be to Trump’s political credibility. His most aggressive and popular economic policy will collapse in court. Third, America’s position in foreign trade negotiations will be weak. Questions will be raised on ongoing informal trade deals with many countries and some agreements may even be broken. The fourth and most important effect will be on the emergency power of the President. If the court sets a strict constitutional limit, it will be very difficult for any president to impose such tariffs in the future.

Indian-origin MP of US Congress Pramila Jayapal has strongly criticized the heavy tariffs imposed on India by President Donald Trump. He said that this policy is not only increasing inflation in America, but is also taking away important strategic and trade partners like India from America, which can weaken America’s position at the global level.

Strong objection expressed on social media
Pramila Jaipal wrote on social media platform He warned that this may encourage India to grow closer to Russia and China, which is harmful for America’s economy and security interests.

Up to 50 percent tariff applicable on India
America has imposed tariffs of up to 50 percent on many products imported from India. Jaipal said such high rates weaken bilateral trade relations and harm both countries in the long run.

Issue of neighboring countries raised in parliamentary hearing
During a parliamentary hearing, Jaipal asked expert witness Sameer Lalwani what could be India’s reaction if its neighbors Pakistan and Bangladesh get lower tariff rates amid heavy tariffs being imposed on India. He asked whether this is creating a perception in India that America is no longer a reliable partner.

Trump’s tariffs on India aren’t only raising prices for Americans — they are pushing India away as a trading ally and giving the country more incentive to partner with Russia and China.

That hurts our economy and makes us all less safe. pic.twitter.com/yOcVE9khUF

 —Rep. Pramila Jayapal (@RepJayapal) December 14, 2025

Fear of inclination towards BRICS and SCO
Jaipal also raised the question as to what effect this policy of America will have on India’s relations with BRICS and Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). He expressed apprehension that such decisions could take India closer to these multilateral groups.

Expert said big concern for India
Sameer Lalwani, in response, said that the tariffs of the Trump administration are a matter of serious concern for India. He said that this is having a negative impact on India’s exports, costs are increasing and the competitiveness of Indian products is decreasing.

Increasing pressure on labour-intensive sectors
Since August, under Trump’s trade policy, import duties on Indian products such as clothing, gems, leather and seafood have been increased, reaching up to 50 percent in some cases. Indian officials and industry organizations say that due to these high tariffs, India’s exports to America may decline.

Impact on India’s largest export market
America is India’s largest export market. According to experts, if the tariff policy is not changed, it could increase the threat to jobs in India’s labour-intensive industries and further deepen tensions in India-US trade relations.

Putin India Visit: Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that the increasing cooperation between India and Russia is not against any third country, America is also included in it. In an interview given to India Today in the Kremlin before his visit to India, he spoke openly on the future of India-Russia relations and America’s reactions.

When asked what India and Russia should do to deal with President Donald Trump’s tariff policies, Putin said, ‘He follows his own policy. He has advisors, his decisions are not taken just like that. His advisors believe that this type of tariff policy, i.e. imposing additional duties on trading partners, is beneficial for the US economy in the long run. In my understanding, he is doing his work honestly.

‘Russia does not believe in such policies’

Putin said that Russia does not adopt such practices. He said, ‘Our experts believe that there are risks in these policies, but every country and its government has the right to choose its economic policy. We have never done this, are not doing it now and have no such plans in the future. Our economy is open. We hope that whatever violation of World Trade Organization (WTO) rules has occurred will be rectified.

‘India-Russia cooperation is not against any country’

When asked what could be Trump’s reaction to programs like ‘Make in India, Make With Russia’, Putin clearly said, ‘Neither I nor Prime Minister Modi ever think of working together against anyone, despite external pressures. Trump follows his agenda, focuses on his goals, while we focus on our work, not against anyone, but to protect the interests of India and Russia. We do not harm anyone and I think leaders of other countries will understand this.

When asked what he thought about Trump’s recent statement that India was ‘funding the war’ by buying oil from Russia, Putin said, ‘I would never let any of my colleagues make this assessment of the citizens of their country during elections.’

‘America itself buys nuclear fuel from Russia’

Responding to Trump’s criticism on energy imports, Putin said that America itself buys nuclear fuel from Russia. He said, ‘As far as India’s purchase of Russian energy resources is concerned… I would like to say this, and I have said this publicly before, America itself buys nuclear fuel from Russia for its nuclear power plants.’

Putin further said, ‘This fuel is also uranium, which is used in America’s reactors. If America has the right to buy fuel from us, why should India not have the same right? This question is a matter of serious consideration and we are ready to discuss it, even with President Trump.

Trade tension between Canada and America has increased once again. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has admitted that he has apologized to the US President. This apology was sought due to a controversial advertisement, in which the voice of former US President Ronald Reagan was used.

On this matter, Carney said that the President was angry and I apologized to him. When America is ready, talks will resume. The case began when Ontario Premier Doug Ford shared a political ad on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). In this advertisement, a clip of Ronald Reagan’s old radio speech was used, in which he was talking about the dangers of tariffs. Reagan’s voice said that tariffs may seem patriotic at first glance, but in the long run they harm every American worker and consumer. This advertisement aired during a cricket match on Fox Sports and was seen by more than 9 million people.

Reagan Foundation expressed strong objection

The Reagan Presidential Foundation expressed displeasure about the advertisement. The foundation said that the Canadian or Ontario governments did not obtain permission to use this clip and it was edited in a misleading manner. According to NBC News, the Foundation is now considering legal options in this matter.

Canada ran fake ad: Trump

Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that Canada ran a fake ad in which Reagan was shown to be anti-tariff. This is a fraudulent move. He said that this behavior of Canada is an “attack on American interests” and has deeply damaged the trust between the two countries.

America’s counterattack- 10% additional tariff

As the controversy escalated, the White House announced that an additional 10% tariff would be imposed on Canadian products. This duty will be especially applicable on aluminum and agricultural products. Trump said that there will be no trade related negotiations until Canada stops its misinformation policy.

Want reconciliation, not conflict – Mark Carney

The Canadian Prime Minister said that the objective of his government is not confrontation with America but dialogue and cooperation. He said, “We want permanent relations with America. Whenever they are ready, we are ready for talks.” Carney clarified that Canada believes in fair trade and its intention is not to challenge America’s policies.

Old history of tariff dispute

The dispute between America and Canada regarding tariffs is not new. In 2018, the Trump administration had imposed heavy duties on Canadian steel and aluminium, which deteriorated relations between the two countries. This time the matter is related to a political advertisement, but it can have a direct impact on business. Experts say that if tariff policies remain harsh, there could be a long-term impact on North America’s economic relations.

US President Donald Trump indicated on Sunday (October 19, 2025) that his government may reconsider the tariff policy if China takes some positive steps in favor of America. This statement has come at a time when just a few days ago the Trump administration had announced to increase the duty on goods imported from China by 100 percent and implement software export control from November 1.

Trump told the media that relations between him and Chinese President Xi Jinping are better than normal. He said that differences exist between the two countries, but if Beijing does something good for America then reduction in tariffs is possible. According to Trump, this is no longer a one-way street. We will protect our interests but there is scope for agreement if China cooperates.

Tension rising again in trade war

After the peace of the last few months, the US-China trade war seems to be intensifying once again. Washington has recently tightened export controls on technology products and is preparing to impose additional duties on Chinese ships in US ports. In response, China has imposed strict rules on the export of rare earth minerals and other strategic materials.

Preparation for new negotiations and possible agreement

US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant has confirmed that representatives of the two countries will hold new trade talks in Malaysia this week. This meeting is being seen as an attempt to improve relations after Trump’s recent statements and the canceled meeting with Xi Jinping. Beijing has also indicated that it is ready for a new round of talks amid the tariff dispute.

WTO’s warning – threat to the global economy

World Trade Organization (WTO) Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has warned that the ongoing trade conflict between America and China could cause huge damage to the global economy. He said that if this tension continues, there could be a decline of about 7% in world production. According to him, the US-China trade tension is not only bilateral but will affect the entire world economy.

What is Trump’s strategy?

Experts believe that this policy of Trump is part of his “Deal Diplomacy”. They first take tough steps, then open the way for talks so that political and technical concessions can be achieved. The Trump administration’s tariff policy has also affected the US technology sector, especially the semiconductor and software industries, which consider China a major market.

US President Donald Trump has once again taken a tough stance on India and said that if India continues to import crude oil from Russia, it will have to pay heavy import tariffs. Trump gave this statement while talking to journalists in his plane Air Force One. He said, ‘I spoke to Prime Minister Modi. He said that India will not buy Russian oil. If they do not do so, they will have to pay heavy tariffs.

The Trump administration believes that the countries buying oil from Russia are indirectly providing financial support to the Ukraine war, that is why America is continuously putting pressure on the countries buying energy from Russia. In the past months, America had requested many countries including India to reduce or stop Russian oil imports.

India has rejected Trump’s claim

Trump has already claimed that PM Modi has assured him that India will no longer buy oil from Russia. However, Trump’s claim has been rejected by the Indian Foreign Ministry. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said that the aim of India’s energy policy is to protect the interests of its consumers. He said that India is a responsible energy importer. We take our decisions independently so that prices remain stable and supply remains diverse. India reiterated that its priority is to maintain economic balance and meet domestic needs and not to come under any political pressure.

Trump’s tariffs affected India

The Trump administration had increased the import duty on many Indian products earlier this year. This includes clothes, medicines and agricultural products. Indian industry organizations say that this policy has had a negative impact on exports. If a new tariff is imposed on the issue of Russian oil, India-US trade relations may sour.

Controversy over Modi-Trump conversation

Trump claimed in his statement that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised him not to buy Russian oil. Although the Indian government has clarified that there is no official record of any such conversation, when journalists raised questions on this, Trump said that if they did not agree, they would have to pay heavy tariffs.

India’s energy strategy

India is the third largest oil importer in the world. New Delhi says its goal is to maintain affordable, sustainable and diverse energy supply. India currently buys oil from Saudi Arabia, America, Russia and United Arab Emirates. Meanwhile, a senior official of the Energy Ministry said that oil from Russia is proving to be the cheapest deal economically, hence India considers it a part of its energy security strategy.

US President Donald Trump has signed a 25 per cent tariff on India on the order. Meanwhile, India has taken a very big decision. According to Bloomberg report, the officials familiar with the case said on the condition of anonymity that India will not buy F-35 stealth fighter aircraft from America. During Modi’s visit to Modi’s White House in February, Trump offered to sell these expensive fighter aircraft to India. However, officials said that the Modi government is more interested in focused on the joint design and construction of defense equipment domestically, but no response has been received from the Ministry of Defense Ministry about the matter yet.

After the US imposition of tariffs, India is considering options to satisfy the US, including promoting American imports. However, India has denied retaliation on President Donald Trump’s 25% tariff’s decision. New Delhi officials on Wednesday (30 July 2025) spoke of shocking and disappointed with Trump’s announcement, as this conversation was private. He said on the condition of anonymity that the government is keen to bring bilateral trade talks back on track and is looking for ways to increase shopping from its biggest business partner.

Emphasis on increasing the purchase of natural gas
According to sources, India is considering increasing the purchase of natural gas from the US and increasing the import of communication and gold. Officials said that promoting these things can help reduce India’s trade surplus with the US in the next three to four years. He told that there is no plan to purchase defense. New Delhi officials are not considering responding immediately to Trump’s tariff threat. The government has already reserved the right to respond to increased American charges on steel and automobiles at the time of its choice in the World Trade Organization.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal’s statement
India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal had expressed confidence of a trade agreement with Washington a few days ago. He told Parliament on Thursday that the government is now interacting with exporters to assess the impact of Trump’s tariff. Amidst the opposition’s vigorous protests, Goyal said, “The effects of the recent developments are being investigated.” He further said that his ministry is collecting feedback from exporters and industry groups and will take all necessary steps to protect and advance our national interests.

US President Donald Trump has recently announced to impose new tariffs on many countries of the world. The name of Pakistan was not included in these countries till now, but still Shahbaz Sharif has a tension that Trump should not announce a long tariff on Pakistan. Pakistan Finance Minister Aurangzeb is visiting the US.

Aurangzeb talked with American officials Lutynik and Greyer about tariffs. During this time, along with the tariff issue between the two countries, he also considered strengthening business relations. The Pakistani Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the matter, saying that the conversation was productive and both sides called it positive. Both countries discussed opportunities to promote economic partnership. This dialogue is considered important for Pakistan’s export sector, especially textile and agricultural sector.

America did not make any official announcement

Even though there has been talks between Pakistan and America, but no formal announcement has been made from the US so far. According to sources, the US will currently declare a policy for Pakistan only after completing the talks with its other business colleagues. This attitude suggests that the US is holding separate talks with all partners as part of a broad tariff strategy, so that a joint and strict policy can be revealed.

New twist in America-Pakistan relationship

Significantly, in the last few years, relations between America and Pakistan have been stressful. But since the meeting of Donald Trump and Pakistani Army Chief Aseem Munro at the White House last month, there have been indications of improvement in relationships. It was only after this meeting that business talks between Pakistan and America started, which is now being transformed into a wider tariff discussion.

Tariff influence on Pakistan’s economy

Tariffs can prove to be a big risk for Pakistan’s economy. Export -dependent economy may get a big shock. Pakistan’s textile, agricultural and industrial products may be affected in the US market. Increasing tariffs can make exports expensive and weak in competition. However, if the agreement is successful, Pakistan can get a fee concession. This can strengthen Pakistan’s economic stability and strategic relations with the US.

There has been a sudden decline in China’s factory activities in May. This decline was the fastest after 2022. The reason for this is being considered as America’s strict tariff policy and increasing uncertainty in global trade.

Factory output biggest decline of 20 months

Caixin/s & amp; p Global Manufacturing PMI, according to the PMI survey, China’s PMI fell to 48.3 in May, which was 50.4 in April. This figure has first gone below 50 since September 2023. Let me tell you, more than 50 PMI indicates growth and falls below 50.

 tremendous decline in export order

Caixin said that the decline in the new export order was the highest after July 2023. That is, there has been a sharp decline in demand for sending goods out of China. Total orders have also decreased, that is, there is a decline in demand in both domestic and international places.

 job crisis and sales lethargy

There is also a bad condition on the employment front. Employment has decreased for the second consecutive month and the fastest decline has been observed since January. Also, the stock of the prepared goods near the factories is starting to accumulate again after four months because the sale is reduced and the shipment is being delayed.

Effect of tariff war, Trump again showed strictness

US President Donald Trump imposed up to 145 per cent tariffs on imported products from China in April, which has recently been stopped for 90 days. But its effect has already started appearing. The average American tariffs are still at 51.1 per cent, while China has imposed 32.6 per cent duty on American goods.

Why difference between official and private data?

According to government PMI data, China’s factory activity was 49.5 in May, which is a little better, but still below growth. This data was taken at the end of the month, while Caixin’s data was taken in the middle of the month, when the tariff discount probably did not have a complete effect.

 construction and services also dull

China’s non-industrial activity such as construction and service sector PMI has also fallen to 50.3, compared to 50.4 in April. Although it is still in the growth zone.

 Rate cut and liquidity increased

To handle the situation, Beijing reduced the bank reserve ratio by 50 basis points and cut policy interest rates by 10 basis points. Its aim is to increase cash with banks so that the loan can be easily given.

 Property sector also falls

The biggest problem of China remains, real estate. Between January and April, property investment has fallen by 10.3 per cent. Apart from this, retail sales were also less than expected. There was only 5.1 percent increase in April. Consumer and wholesale prices are in constant deflation.

Is China now in dire need of reform?

Nomura Bank Chief Economist Ting Lu while talking to CNBC said that now China will have to take big steps in compulsion. Such as pension reform, birth subsidy and direct consumption support. Because property and export are no longer growth engines.
