India US relations: The US, who is trying for Ukraine War, has imposed a high tariff on India, in which 25 percent of the tariffs have been imposed as additional panalty due to buying 25 percent oil from Russia. While the American High Tariff has badly affected India’s exports, the relationship between two big democracy of the world has also brought a sour. After this move of Trump, however, India has definitely changed its strategy.

On the other hand, American trade representative Jamison Greer has given a big statement from India regarding the purchase of Russian oil. He said that the purchase of India’s Russian oil is not the basic basis of the Indian economy. He said that now India is moving towards diversification of its energy purchase sources. Greer made it clear that India is a sovereign country and has the right to decide on its own energy policy and international relationships.

During a dialogue held at the Economic Club in New York, Greer said, “India has not always buying so much oil from Russia. It has had strong relations with Russia, but in the last two-three years, India has started buying Russian oil at a discount to consume and re-sell.”

Diversity in oil shopping

He said that this is not a basic or permanent part of the economy of India. He believes that India is understanding this and is now taking steps towards diversifying its energy supply. Greer further said that the US does not instruct a country to or not to keep a relationship with. America is not imposing anyone on anyone with whom they do business with.

Trump Administration says that India’s procurement of crude oil from Russia, indirectly supports Russia’s war against Ukraine. On the question asked about the impact of this new tariff on India, Gold said that it has come into force a few weeks ago. He said that India has a $ 40 billion trade surplus with America- that is, India does not import as much as it exports to America.

He further informed that from the early days of the Trump administration, talks are going on between the US and India regarding the trade agreement. “This additional 25% fee has been levied for a recent increase in the purchase of oil from Russia,” also emphasized that President Donald Trump is focused on ending the Russia-Ukraine war.

Pressure on China with India

“We are putting as much pressure on Putin as possible. We have also talked to our European colleagues – some of them are still buying Russian oil, which is quite contradictory. We are talking not only to India but also to China. We have to end this war,”
They said.

On the other hand, the official attitude of India is that its energy purchase is determined by its national interest and market conditions. After the commencement of the Russia-Ukraine War in February 2022, when Western countries banned Russia and limited its supply, India started buying Russian oil at a discount.

America expresses concern about India’s Russian oil purchase, but also admits that India takes decisions under its independent policy. At the same time, India says that its energy policy is inspired by economic practicality and national interests and not any political pressure.

India-Rus Trade Talks: After the US imposing more tariffs on India, the talks between the two countries have started again. India and the United States have decided that a mutually beneficial trade agreement (BTA) will be completed soon. The Indian delegation went to the US under the leadership of Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and returned after a three -day conversation. During this time, both sides discussed many important issues and agreed to continue further talks.

India has demanded removal of tariffs imposed in the form of 25 percent additional penalty from the US, as it can obstruct the agreement. 100% tariff on drugs from the US can affect India’s exports, while Indian companies have a major stake in the supply of US medicines. Nevertheless, the conversation has taken place in a positive environment and it will be carried forward in a phased manner. The goal is that by 2030 the trade between the two countries will increase from $ 191 billion to $ 500 billion. The Indian delegation also met American investors and industrialists who expressed confidence in India’s economic growth and showed a desire to increase business.

Soon India-US conversation

The Ministry of Commerce said, “Both sides shared views on the outline of the agreement. During this time, it was decided to continue the talks to reach out to the earliest profitable trade agreement. These talks have been held in the backdrop of the US administration imposing a total of 50 percent fee on India.

According to the news agency PTI, an official said that India has demanded the US to remove the tariffs imposed as this panalty, as it will be important in the way of trade agreement. The official also said that US President Donald Trump’s announcement of imposing 100% import duty on branded drugs from October 1 can affect Indian exports. The reason for this is that Indian companies have a huge stake in the supply of medicines to America.

Tariff worries on pharma

Four out of every 10 drug slips written in America in the year 2022 were completed with drugs supplied from India. Despite these deadlocks, business talks are on track. The official said that the agreement will be completed in a phased manner. The first phase of the agreement is planned to be completed by October-November this year. So far, five rounds of talks have been held. The target is to increase bilateral trade from the current $ 191 billion to $ 500 billion by 2030.

The top leadership of the two countries decided to start a conversation on the trade agreement in February 2025. The trade talks were postponed in late August after imposing 50% tariffs on India. But after the American team came to India in mid -September, this series started again.

Trump Tariff Policies: The American tariff policy has created a stir all over the world and its impact on the global industry is clearly visible. Meanwhile, former RBI governor C Rangarajan says that President Trump’s economic policies are not only affecting global trade, but can also prove to be suicide for the US itself.

Addressing the 15th convocation of the ‘ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education’ on Friday, Rangarajan said that some policies of Trump have stalled global trade trends. Without naming ‘BRICS’, he said that the emergence of different groups with independent trade is inevitable, but the final goal should be a world in which trade is more open. He hoped that America’s policymakers would work wisely and change suicidal policies.

Deadly Trump’s policy for America

He said that India has been the most affected by this situation. India’s growth is uneven, as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and West Bengal contribute 52 percent of the national income, while the remaining states contribute 48 percent. Giving an example, Rangarajan said that the per capita income of Goa is 10 times more than Bihar.

The former RBI Governor said that to make India a developed nation, per capita income will have to be taken up to US $ 18,000. For this, major states will have to achieve a relatively rapid growth rate. For example, 8.71 percent for Tamil Nadu, 9.63 percent for Gujarat, 8.77 percent for Karnataka and 9.53 percent for Maharashtra are expected. At the same time, 17.4 percent growth will be required for Bihar and 14.5 percent for Uttar Pradesh.

India is the most affected

He said that the hypothesis of developed India is not only a statistical goal but a journey of broad change, for which the collective effort of both the government and the society is necessary. For this, focus on five concentrated areas-an increase of two percent in investment rates, adopting new technologies, encouraging labor-dominated areas, expanding social infrastructure such as health and education and strengthening the quality and effectiveness of higher education.

Trump tarifs: The US announced a unilateral tariff against countries around the world including India. This decision of President Trump is being strongly criticized. After his move, while on the one hand, the US court called it illegal, on the other hand, this move of President Trump has created a big challenge in front of India’s exports. Many such sectors including leather, which required a lot of labor, have been in crisis due to 50 percent of the tariffs of America.

However, the central government has assured these sectors that they are working seriously and are also turning to other markets.

American tariff will get an answer

India, after changing its policy after the high tariff of America, has tried to improve the sour relationship with the neighboring country China to a great extent. From Chinese apps to many of their products, the routes of entry are also being opened. Along with this, work is also being done on free trade agreement with the European Union besides Russia and other countries.

Overall, the government is now taking all possible steps to compensate for the loss that is being taken due to the US tariff.

India-China fight together
Here, China has strongly opposed the high American tariff placed over India. Ambassador Shu Faihong said on Monday that China strongly opposed the 50 percent of the “unfair” fee imposed on India by the Trump administration. He also said that India and China should intensify economic relations to combat this challenge together.

The Chinese ambassador said that both India-China are victims of terrorism and Beijing is ready to work with the international community including New Delhi to deal with this challenge. He said in response to questions after his address at an event organized on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of China’s victory against Japan, that the US is using the fee as a type of ‘weapon’ to recover “excessive” tariffs from various countries. Two extremely important emerging economies India and China should cooperate with each other to deal with this situation.

US President Donald Trump has issued a new executive order, under which on Monday (August 8, 2025), a tariff exemption will be given to business partner countries that will make agreement on industrial exports with the US. The advantage of this exemption will be specially given on important things like nickel, gold, pharmaceutical compound, and chemicals. It aims to reorganize the global trade system, reduce the US trade deficit and motivate business partners to overpowder.

What is special in the new order?
Under this order of Trump administration, categories of more than 45 things have been included, on which Alaind Patanors will get zero import tariffs. These partners will be the countries that will sign the Framework Agreement with the US and promise to reduce the reciperook tariffs and charges imposed by the Trump administration. The step is also in line with agreements made with the current coalition countries of the US including Japan, the European Union (EU). This exemption will be implemented from 12 noon on Monday.

What are the discounts on what
According to the White House, tariff cuts will apply to items that cannot be grown, mined or naturally generated in the US or whose domestic production is insufficient. These discounts include natural graphite, different types of nickels (which are essential for stainless steel and electric vehicle batteries), pharmaceutical compounds such as lidocaine and medical diagnostic tests. Apart from this, different things of gold are also included in these discounts powder, leaves and bullion.

Special provisions and changes
In this order, exemption has also been given for some special agricultural products, aircraft and its parts, and non-petitioned pharmaceutical things. Under the order, once the US Trade Representative (USTR), the Department of Commerce and the Customs will be able to waive the tariffs on these items independently after the new executive order is required without a new executive order. Also, this new order has canceled the exemption given some earlier, including plastic and polysilicon (which is essential for solar panels).

Current status and impact
Major supply countries like Switzerland, which have not yet received an agreement with Washington, have a tariff of 39%. With this step, the US wants to reduce the dependence of goods that cannot be made available in sufficient amounts domestic. Due to the new order, global trade will have a big impact and will also help in protecting America’s industrial interests.

Trump tarifs: The US has imposed a huge tariff of 50 percent of a total of 50 percent against India. Of these, 25 percent is base tariff, while an additional 25 percent tariff has been imposed as a penalty due to buying oil from Russia. This high tariff is deepening tension in Indo-US relations. The interesting thing is that now in the US Parliament, voices against President Trump have started raising. Many MPs have described this move as a threat to important relations between India and America.

Front against Trump!

Democrat Member, head of the US House of External Affairs, Gregory Meex, a head of the Foreign Affairs Committee, met Indian Ambassador Vinay Mohan Quatra in Washington on Wednesday. Mikes said that the “arbitrary tariff” imposed on India by President Trump is a serious threat to the strong partnership between the two countries. He posted on social media that in the last 25 years, it will not be good for both America and India to harm the relationships including Quad.

Mikes also reiterated that it is the priority of the Congress to strengthen America-India relations. He said that our discussion was focused on deep relations, shared hope of peace in Ukraine and arbitrary tariffs of Trump.

What will Trump do now?

Indian Ambassador Quatra also thanked Mikes and thanked his constant consultation and support for the US-India relations. He said that the focal point of negotiation was widespread issues related to trade, energy, Hind-pacific region and mutual interests. Apart from this, Quatra also met Carol Miller, President of Congressnal Energy Export Cocus and shared information about India’s energy security and trade policy.

A total of 50 percent tariff imposed on India by Trump, including 25 percent penalty fee levied on Russian oil imports, has given a new twist to the relationship. However, India says that its energy purchase is completely inspired by national interest and market realities. Meanwhile, the Indian Ambassadors are constantly meeting US lawmakers to clarify the situation and normalize the relationship.

A historic decision was taken at the 56th GST Council meeting, under which 12% and 28% tax slab has been abolished. Now only two slabs – 5% and 18% will remain. On this matter, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that this change will bring relief for common families, farmers, businesses and health sector. He called it the GST improvement of the next generation and the gift of Diwali for the country.

Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram has reacted to the government’s decision. He welcomed it, but also criticized strictly. He wrote on X (East Twitter) that rationalizing GST and decreasing rates on many things and services has been welcome, but this decision has been taken with a delay of 8 years. This existing form and tax slab should not have been implemented from the beginning. We were constantly warning while in opposition, but our arguments were ignored.

The GST Rationalization and the Reduction in Rates on a range of goods and services are welcome but 8 years too late

The current design of gst and the rates previving until today

We have been crying hoorse for the last 8…

P Chidambaram raised questions
Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram questioned why this reform was still done. He speculated the political and economic reasons behind this. He questioned whether this decision has been taken under the pressure of sluggish economic development, increasing domestic debt, decreasing savings, upcoming Bihar elections or American tariffs. All these factors can be forced to force the government.
TMC surrounds the government
The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) also attacked the central government and called this decision a victory for the public. The TMC said that taxing the insurance premium was cruel and anti -people. Mamta Banerjee opposed this from the beginning. However, this decision proves that the BJP government listens only when it is under pressure. The TMC warned that it will continue to fight against every such anti -people decision between Parliament, Road and the public.

Economic and political impact
Cutting in GST rates will provide relief to consumers and reduce the cost of living. The industry will get a chance to increase sales and production. There will also be pressure on the government that further decisions should be taken in time and transparent manner.

The Chemistry of PM Modi-Putin and Xi Jinping at the SCO Summit held in China has disturbed Trump. Soon after the SCO, Trump issued a statement defending his tariff move. He said that India has imposed the most tariffs on American goods in the world, while American markets are open for Indian products. Giving the example of Harley Davidson, he said that up to 200% tariffs were imposed on the motorcycle, due to which the company could not sell motorcycles in India. As a result, the company had to set up a plant in India so that the tariff could be avoided.

Xi Jinping, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, attended the SCO summit. This was the first time after the tariff was imposed by America, when the leaders of three big countries of the world appeared under one roof. After this, the manner in which Trump has targeted the tariff and targeted India is clearly visible. However, India has clearly stated that it is not going to come in front of America under any kind of pressure. During this time, trade talks between the two countries are also going on, in which no solution has been found so far.

Us tarifs on pharmaceuticals: US President Donald Trump is taking one step after the other, which are constantly becoming troublesome for Americans. On the one hand, while the US court termed Tariff as illegal, on the other hand Trump is not ready to withdraw from his move. Now pharmaceutical companies have come in their target.

According to news agency AP, the Trump administration has decided to put heavy tariffs on imported medicines. These rates will be up to 200 percent on some medicines. President Trump’s effort is to increase the scope of tariff to reach the pharmaceutical sector after auto and steel. This will directly affect those medicines, which were not yet imposed customs. That is, this decision of Trump can affect the general American public.

Why American people in worry?

Experts believe that the supply chain will be affected on one side due to heavy tariffs on medicines, then the risk of lack of medicines will increase on the other side. The Trump administration is using section 232 of the Trade Examination Act 1962 to justify its move. It is being argued that to avoid lack of drugs, it is necessary to increase production at the domestic level, so that the situation like Kovid-19 is not again.

Recently, in the US-Europe trading decision, up to 15 percent tariffs were imposed on some European goods, including medicines. Despite this, the Trump administration is preparing to put more tariffs.

What will be the immediate effect?

It has been suggested by the White House that about one and a half years should be given to apply higher tariffs. Many companies have already increased imports and have increased the prices of medicines.

Jeffer’s analyst David Windle warned that this decision could not be implemented before 2026 or before 2027. The short -term effect will be that the lack of drugs will increase. Whereas in a long time it will directly affect the cost and supply.

A federal appeal court of the US gave its verdict on Friday (August 29, 2025) on the tariff on several countries of the world by President Donald Trump. This decision of the court has shocked the decision of US President Trump’s tariff. The US Appeal Court ruled Trump’s global tariff as illegal. The court said that Trump did not have any legal right to impose tariff widely on every country. However, the court has allowed these tariffs to remain in force, so that Trump can get time to appeal in the Supreme Court.

The US’s Federal Circuit’s Appeal Court said in its judgment that Donald Trump had crossed its rights under the law of emergency powers. The decision is a major legal defeat for Trump, which confirms the decision of a special Federal Trade Court in New York in May.

The court pronounced the decision on which countries,

The US court has ruled the tariffs that Donald Trump had imposed on all partner countries in April. It included the tariffs that the US President first applied to China, Mexico and Canada. Trump, declaring the day of independence on 2 April, implemented Rasiprockle tariffs on many countries of the world. Trump had argued that America was facing a trade deficit from many partnership countries. Trump justified these tariffs implemented citing the 1977 International Emrrony Economic Powers Act.

Court pronounced decision with a majority of 7-4

The federal appeal court ruled on Friday (August 29) with a 7-4 majority. The court wrote in the judgment that it would not seem possible from anywhere to give unlimited rights to the Congress, so that he could put a tariff on any country of the world arbitrarily.

What arguments were given in Trump administration court,

The government argued in the court that if the tariff of Trump is canceled, it may have to return some money recovered from the import tax, this may cause a big economic shock to the US treasury and if this happens, it can also weaken the trump’s efforts to impose tariffs later.
