Triumph Xi Meet: US President Donald Trump held an important two-hour long meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday. According to reports, before leaving for Washington, there may be another round of talks between the two leaders, in which major decisions are possible on issues like Iran war, trade, technology and Taiwan.

After the meeting, President Xi Jinping said that America and China have agreed on new bilateral relations. He said that this new vision will give direction to the strategic relations between the two countries for the next three years.

Xi’s alert on Taiwan

However, Xi gave a clear warning to America on the Taiwan issue. He said that if tension increases regarding Taiwan, it may spoil the relations between the two countries. He appealed to America to take extra care on this issue and said that relations will remain strong only if handled properly.

In the meeting, both countries also agreed that Iran will not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. According to the White House, the conversation was positive and emphasis was placed on increasing economic cooperation.

During the discussion, issues like giving American companies more access to the Chinese market, increasing investment by China in American industries, stopping smuggling of fentanyl-related chemicals and increasing trade in agricultural products were also discussed.

Consensus reached on many issues

Apart from this, the concerns of both the countries regarding the Strait of Hormuz also came to the fore. They agreed that it is very important for this route to remain open for global energy supply and maritime trade. Xi Jinping opposed its militarization and imposition of any kind of toll. This meeting is being considered an important step towards balancing US-China relations and increasing cooperation on global issues.

The White House has made a big claim regarding the meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping amid the Iran war. Both America and China have agreed that the Strait of Hormuz should remain open, so that the supply of energy (oil-gas) in the global market can continue without interruption. Xi Jinping clearly said that China opposes the militarization of this sea route and the imposition of any toll on its use.

China has indicated that it may buy more American oil in the future, so that it can reduce its dependence on this strategic route. Both countries agreed that Iran will not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons under any circumstances.
