An important development has come to light in the politics of Tamil Nadu. Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) chief TTV Dhinakaran has once again returned to the NDA alliance, a few months before the assembly elections. Dhinakaran had been a part of NDA earlier also, but he left the alliance expressing his displeasure with AIADMK leader and former Chief Minister E Palaniswami.

Dhinakaran rejoins NDA
TTV Dinakaran, while talking to the media after returning to NDA, said that those who compromise never lose. He described it as a new beginning and said that all the true supporters of ‘Amma’ (J Jayalalitha) will unite to form a new government in Tamil Nadu.

Why did you leave NDA earlier?

Dhinakaran had distanced himself from NDA in September 2024. At that time he had accused AIADMK chief E Palaniswami of “arrogance” and opposed his leadership. After separating from the NDA, Dhinakaran had also seen the possibility of an alliance with actor Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), but a consensus could not be reached between the two parties.

Situation changed after meeting Amit Shah
Recently Dhinakaran met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. It is being told that during this meeting he was invited to join NDA again.

Will attend PM Modi’s rally
After returning to NDA, Dhinakaran is likely to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting near Chennai. Many big leaders of NDA including AIADMK leader E Palaniswami will be present in this program.

BJP’s eye on Thevar community
Dhinakaran and O Panneerselvam, another senior AIADMK leader, both belong to the influential Thevar community in south Tamil Nadu. BJP hopes that Dinakaran’s return can unite the votes of this community. However, the situation is not clear regarding Panneerselvam’s return after many leaders close to him left for other parties.
