Delhi Detects 12000 TB Cases In Six Weeks: During the big campaign being run against TB in Delhi, more than 12 thousand patients have been identified in just six weeks. According to the data of the Health Department, under the ‘TB Free India Campaign 2.0’, which was run between March 24 and May 4, screening was done on a large scale in the slum areas, crowded settlements and high risk areas of the capital, due to which thousands of patients were revealed in whom TB could not be identified earlier. This campaign is still going on.

12 thousand patients found

A total of more than 12 thousand patients were confirmed in this campaign running under the National TB Free Program in Delhi. These include 1,323 children, while 10,755 adult patients were found. According to the data, 6,360 men, 5,715 women and three transgender persons have been found TB infected.

What do health officials say?

A senior official of the state health department said that on an average, about 6 thousand TB patients come to the 24 chest clinics of Delhi every month, but after the 100-day campaign that started from March 24, there has been a speed in the identification of patients. According to the official, portable X-ray machines have been installed on a large scale, due to which more screening is being done and more patients have been identified.

According to the Indian Express report, another senior official, on condition of anonymity, said that till now the biggest challenge was to identify those patients in whom no obvious symptoms were visible. He told that the aim of this special campaign is to catch such people in the initial stage, who are infected but the symptoms of the disease have not yet appeared. The official said that the patients who were to be identified later have already been identified.

During the campaign, special attention was paid to slum areas, night shelters, J.J. Focus was placed on colonies, de-addiction centres, old age homes and densely populated areas. 984 Ayushman Arogya camps were organized between March 24 and May 4, 224 camps were organized in high-risk wards and areas, while 79 special camps were organized in jails, old age homes and other community places. In which a total of 71,603 people were screened.

The campaign will continue

According to the Health Department, this campaign has now been made a part of the regular public health system and the screening will continue even after the 100-day campaign is over. Officials said that handheld X-ray machines have emerged as the biggest strength of this campaign. Although TB is still confirmed through microbiological tests, suspected patients are being increasingly identified with the help of portable X-rays. In this, smokers, alcohol drinkers, HIV and diabetes patients, people living in jails and old age homes, slum residents, beggars, construction workers, rickshaw pullers and gig workers were included in the screening on priority basis.
