India’s two-wheeler market has reached a new peak in September 2025. Due to the beginning of the festive season, increased demand in rural areas and the launch of new models, a strong increase in the sales of bikes and scooters was recorded. This month, a total of 24.58 lakh two-wheelers (domestic + import) have been sold in the country, which shows a growth of 14.37% more as compared to August 2025 and 7.85% growth as compared to September 2024, but the biggest surprise is the lagging behind of a big company like Honda and Hero MotoCorp again maintaining its dominance at the number-1 position.

Hero MotoCorp becomes number-1

Hero MotoCorp once again proved in September 2025 that it is India’s two-wheeler market leader. The company sold the highest number of units this month and left behind companies like Honda, TVS, Bajaj and Royal Enfield. On the other hand, Honda’s sales declined on year-on-year (YoY) basis. It was the only company whose growth was negative in September. Although Honda’s scooter models (like the Activa) are still popular in their category, the decline in bike sales has dragged down the overall figures. TVS Motor and Royal Enfield performed well, with both companies registering double-digit growth in September.

Bajaj and TVS dominate the export market

The two-wheeler export market also performed better in September 2025. A total of 3.98 lakh units were imported from India this month, which shows a growth of 16.95%. Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company together capture about 67% of India’s two-wheeler export market. Both the companies have strengthened their hold in markets like Latin America, Africa and South-East Asia. Hero MotoCorp has also made a better comeback in the field of exports. The company’s exports have almost doubled, while Suzuki has faced a decline in foreign markets.

Tremendous growth in two-wheeler market in September 2025

According to the SIAM report and industry data, India’s total two-wheeler sales (domestic + exports) are expected to reach 24.58 lakh units in September 2025. This is a big increase compared to last month and last year.

performance of companies

Hero MotoCorp sold the most two-wheelers and again achieved the number-1 position. The company’s sales increased by 8%. Honda sales have declined. It was the only company whose growth was -3% in September. TVS Motor performed brilliantly and achieved a growth of 12%. The company also registered good growth in the export market. Bajaj Auto’s sales remained stable and achieved a growth of 9%. Bajaj and TVS together capture 67% of India’s two-wheeler export market. Royal Enfield performed record breaking. The company’s growth reached 43%. The demand for its models like Classic 350, Bullet 350 and Hunter 350 was very high. Suzuki also performed well and registered a growth of 24.48%. Sales of its Access 125 scooter and Gixxer series increased, although there was a slight decline in exports.

Why did Honda sales decline?

There are some big reasons behind the decline of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI). The company did not launch any new model for a long time and remained dependent on the old models. Also, competition from companies like Hero, TVS and Bajaj has increased. The strong hold of Hero and TVS in rural markets is also affecting Honda’s sales. However, Honda is now preparing to enter the new 125cc scooter and electric vehicle segment (EV). The company hopes that this will increase its sales again in the coming months.

ABS Rule for two wheelers: The Government of India has taken a big step for two-wheeler security. Till now the ABS (anti-lock braking system) was mandatory for larger bikes than just 125cc, but now this rule will apply to all engine size bikes. That is, now it will be necessary to give ABS in bikes with small engines like Hero Splendor, Bajaj Platina and TVS Sport.

The ABS is an important safety feature that prevents the bike’s tire from being locked in case of sudden braking. It monitors the speed of wheels during braking and helps the rider to maintain balance by controlling the brake pressure when needed. This does not slip the bike and reduces the risk of accident.

There are two types of ABS

Actually, ABS is of two types- the first Single Channel ABS that only affects the front tires, and the second Dual Channel ABS that works on tires both forward and back. Therefore it is considered more secure.

What was the rule yet?

At present, ABS is not mandatory in bikes with 125cc engine in the country, due to which more than 45% of two-wheelers are deprived of this security feature. Since commutary bikes with small engine in India are sold the best, this rule will prove beneficial for millions of riders for safety.

Big decision on helmet also

Apart from this, the government is preparing to bring another important rule. Soon, it will be made mandatory to give two BIS-certified helmets with each two-wheeler. 44% of the deaths in road accidents are of two -wheelers and most of these deaths are caused by severe head injury. If helmet is given while purchasing a bike, then awareness will increase and life can be saved. With this new change, every section driving two -wheelers will get the benefit of safety. Whether it is a budget bike or every rider will get better security with a premium scooter, ABS and helmet.

Also read: Bajaj Avenger Street 220 will soon kill the entry in the Indian market, it will be equipped with many best features, know how much will be the price?

Activa Petrol vs Electric Scooter: Scooter has become a day -long need for people in today’s time. People also use scooters to move a little distance. From bringing vegetables to going to office, scooter is also a better option. Till some time ago, only petrol powered scooters were available in the market. But now electric scooters are also seen in the market. Due to the arrival of these EVs, people are confused about whether they buy electric scooters or petrol scooters, they have the advantage in buying.

Petrol scooter vs electric scooter

The most popular scooter sold in the Indian market is Honda Activa. At the same time, the electric model of this scooter has also come in the market. Many people are shifting from petrol scooters to electric scooters. People only compare their price while buying any scooter, while even after buying a vehicle, any maintenance cost is less and it is also necessary to see who is spending less in running.

The ex-showroom price of Honda Activa’s petrol variants starts from Rs 78,684 to Rs 84,685. At the same time, the ex-showroom price of Activa E starts from Rs 1,17,000 to Rs 1,15,600.

The running cost of Activa E will be less in petrol scooters and electric scooters. If you get an option to charge electric two-wheeler anywhere, then it can be a cost efficient for you.

It is also cheaper to maintain an electric scooter, as EV has less moving parts than petrol variants.

If you look at all these standards of petrol scooters and electric scooters, buying electric scooters is more economical. Earlier people used to worry about the performance of electric two-wheelers, but in today’s time, EVs are giving performance like petrol scooters being launched in the Indian market. Along with this too, the Government of India is also continuously focusing on increasing infrastructure for electric vehicles.
