In the name of higher education, there are many such institutes in the country which are misleading the students by calling themselves universities. Actually, University Grants Commission i.e. UGC releases the list of fake universities every year, so that students can avoid taking admission in such institutes. The Commission has also made it clear this time that such institutes have no right to grant degrees and the degrees recognized from here will not be valid for higher education or employment. According to the UGC Act 1956, only those institutes which are established under Central, State or Provincial law or which have got the status of Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the Act can confer degrees. Apart from this, only institutes empowered by a special Act of Parliament can legally grant degrees. Fake universities running in these states

According to the list released by UGC, many such institutes have been found in many states of the country like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh, which are violating the rules and are being run in a fraudulent manner. The degrees obtained from such fake institutes are neither recognized by the government nor accepted by most of the higher educational institutions.
