Pakistan Grooming Gang Crime In UK: British MP Rupert Low’s recent speech in Parliament has sparked discussion across the country. He has given this speech regarding Pakistan grooming gang. This gang is active in many states of the country. Also involved in heinous crimes like child sexual abuse. Recent investigation by the UK government has revealed that this is a case related to organized child abuse. Most of them are taxi drivers and market traders of Pakistani origin.

In a recent speech, Rupert read out harrowing testimonies from victims, including accounts of severe sexual abuse, teenage pregnancy, bullying and alleged collusion by police and agency flyers.

600 to 700 men raped the minor

In this, a victim told that a criminal had forcefully inserted a liquor bottle in his private part. When the bottle was inside, he broke it. At that time the girl stated her age to be 12 to 13 years.

A woman told that during the exploitation, she was raped by many police officers in different parts of the country. Another victim said that sexual abuse started with her when she was 13 years old. Over the course of three years, 600 to 700 men raped her. Many victims told that they were exploited a lot at a young age. It was all terrible. During this period there was no cooperation from the hospital either.

Apart from these, exploitation had increased so much that pressure to have physical relations with animals was also included. The victims were treated like animals. One victim said that she remembers that a man opened the back door of a van. I saw that 15 to 20 girls were locked in dog cages. The victim accused the people nearby of making fun of her. Also the dog was raped. Apart from this, the victim made serious allegations like oral and vaginal rape.

White and Christian girls were the target

One victim reported that the attackers repeatedly made comments that suggested that white girls or Christian girls were considered less moral or less valuable. Whereas in the eyes of some men, Muslim girls had more dignity and higher moral standards. One victim said that caste or ethnicity played an important role in this. One victim told that a member of a gang had become pregnant. His father was an Imam i.e. a Muslim religious leader.

Meanwhile, last year Lo had led a private investigation in this matter. In this, cases of gang-based child sexual exploitation were identified in at least 85 areas across the UK. According to the statement issued by Lo in August last year, investigation found that the rape gang has been active for decades. Many spread over a large scale. This includes men from Pakistan. There is gross negligence on the part of government agencies.

History of grooming gangs in UK
This matter came to light 10 years ago in Rotherham, a backward town in Yorkshire. Where officials were informed about systematic grooming and sexual exploitation of underage children. Such incidents happened with white girls around 2001. Action on this and punishment took place after ten years. When five people were sent to jail for several crimes along with a 12 year old little girl. The same pattern was found repeated in more than 50 cities. Which includes big cities like Rochdale, Oxford, Telford and Bristol.

Between 1997 and 2013, cases involving 1400 children were reported. Many were kidnapped, many were raped. In its previous report, the Child Sexual Exploitation Taskforce found that more than 1.15 lakh cases of sexual crimes against children were reported in the UK in 2023. This taskforce was formed in April 2023 by the then Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to deal with grooming gangs. During this period, more than 550 suspects were arrested.
