Scientists say that due to climate change caused by human activities, Europe is warming faster than the world’s average temperature. For this reason, heat waves are being seen more frequently and in a more dangerous form than before. There is record breaking heat in the United Kingdom also. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature reached 34.8 degrees Celsius in Kew Gardens in south-west London on Monday. This is the highest temperature so far in the month of May and is about 2 degrees more than the old record.

The Meteorological Department said that such heat is usually seen in the middle of summer, whereas the average temperature of London in May is around 17 to 18 degrees Celsius. The Met Office also said that Tuesday night was the hottest night recorded in the month of May. It was called Tropical Night, because the temperature remained very high even during the night. Recently, climate experts warned that Britain’s existing infrastructure is not prepared for the changing climate. He had appealed to the government to adapt schools, hospitals and public facilities to the new weather conditions.

Record heat in France too

The situation remains serious in France also. The country’s weather agency Météo-France said that Monday was the hottest day of the month of May since the temperature measurement started in the country. The agency has issued an orange heatwave alert for north-west France, which is the second highest warning level. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature can reach 36 degrees Celsius in many areas. The temperature in Paris on Saturday was recorded at 31.9 degrees Celsius, which went above 30 degrees for the first time this year. Many tragic incidents have also come to light due to the heat. A person died during a 10 kilometer race in Paris. However, it is not yet clear whether the death was directly due to heat or not.

Woman dies of heat stroke

Also in the city of Lyon, a woman died of heat stroke after a fitness run. France’s junior energy minister Maud Bregion said that seven people have died due to various reasons related to the current heatwave. Of these, 5 people died due to drowning in lake, river or sea.

Germany, Spain and Italy also affected

For the first time this year the temperature in Germany has crossed 30 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department estimates that the temperature may increase further in the coming days. The situation is serious in Spain also. According to weather agency AEMET, by the end of this week the temperature in some areas may reach 40 degrees Celsius. Due to the heat in Italy, work outside has been banned in some areas. Last year also such restrictions were imposed, but this time summer has started early.
