Electricity and water supply has been disrupted in thousands of houses. Poltava officials said power generators were being used to provide water. Government energy company Tsentrenergo described it as the biggest attack since the war began in February 2022. The company said that the enemy country has attacked all our production capacities at the same time. Our plants are on fire. Electricity production has become zero. Tsentrenergo produces about 8% of Ukraine’s electricity, so the attacks took a heavy toll on the national power grid.

Concern over nuclear security, demand for IAEA meeting

Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiha demanded an immediate meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He appealed to China and India to put pressure on Russia to stop such attacks, which could lead to a devastating nuclear accident at any time. Remember that Russia had earlier also fired shells near the Zaporizhia nuclear plant, which had created a situation of radiation danger in Europe.

Russia clarified that these were retaliatory attacks

The Russian Defense Ministry issued a statement saying that this attack was carried out in response to drone attacks carried out by Kiev inside Russia. The ministry said Russia attacked weapons production facilities, gas and energy installations with high-precision long-range air, land and sea weapons. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to the international community to impose more stringent sanctions on Russia’s energy sector. Zelensky also said that Russia fired 450 drones and 45 missiles in just one night. The Ukrainian Air Force claimed that it shot down 406 of these drones and 9 missiles, but 26 missiles and 52 drones fell on 25 targets.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday (October 25, 2025) that on Friday (October 24, 2025) Russian air defense systems shot down 281 Ukrainian drones, nine of which were hovering over Moscow. The ministry said in a statement, ‘The air defense system has shot down two guided aerial bombs and 281 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).’

According to the report of Xinhua news agency, the Defense Ministry said on Friday that Russian air defense systems shot down 1,441 Ukrainian UAVs last week. The air defense system shot down one Ukrainian Su-27 aircraft, four cruise missiles, 18 guided aerial bombs, 15 rocket projectiles of the American HIMARS multiple launch rocket system, as well as 1,441 fixed-wing UAVs, the ministry said in a statement.

Ukrainian Air Force claimed the attack

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 62 drones and nine missiles during the overnight attack on Ukraine. Air defense units shot down 50 drones and four missiles. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the city was targeted by ballistic missiles.

40 strategic bombers of Russia destroyed

Russia itself has admitted that five military airfields have suffered a loss in Ukraine attack. These airfields are in Murmansk, Irqutsk, Ivanovo, Reyon and Amur areas. Russia says that all the FPVs (First Person View) in Ivanovo, Reyon and Amur were stopped, but many airplanes have been damaged in Murmansk and Irqutsk.
