Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has given a very sharp and emotional statement against Russia on the occasion of Christmas. Zelensky did not take the name of Russian President Vladimir Putin in his address, but his signal was completely clear. Anger flares up over Russia’s Christmas attacks

This message from Zelensky comes after the Russian attacks in which ballistic missiles, Kinzhal hypersonic strikes and hundreds of Shahed drones were fired on Ukraine before Christmas. Three people died in these attacks and power supply came to a standstill in many cities. Zelensky said that Russia did not spare innocent people even on festive days.

The Ukrainian President also made it clear in his Christmas message that his country is not fighting only out of a sense of revenge. He said that Ukraine is struggling for peace, praying for peace and it fully deserves peace. He prayed to God for a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.

20-point peace plan and proposal to withdraw troops from Donbass

In a statement to the media after the Christmas message, Zelensky also mentioned Ukraine’s 20-point peace plan. He said that if a way is found to end the war, Ukraine is ready to withdraw its forces from the eastern industrial region of Donbass. However, he clarified that this step is possible only if Russia also withdraws its forces from the same area, the entire area is declared a demilitarized zone and international peacekeeping forces are deployed there.

Russia’s strict conditions and Kyiv’s clear refusal

At present, Russia has not given any indication of retreating from the occupied areas. Russia controls most of Luhansk and large areas of Donetsk. Putin is demanding Ukraine to leave Donbass, but Kiev has completely rejected this condition.

US President Donald Trump, while talking to reporters at the White House, clearly said that the peace draft sent by America to Kiev is not its final offer. In the same conversation, Trump also said that if he had been president in 2022, the Russia-Ukraine war would never have started.

There was a major stir in American politics when Republican Senator Mike Rounds told that Foreign Minister Marco Rubio informed the senators that the 28-point peace plan prepared by America is actually based on content received from Russia. However, the US State Department did not make any public comment on this claim. Meanwhile, representatives of America, Britain, France, Germany and Ukraine are going to discuss the review and amendment of this draft in Geneva.

The country is facing the most difficult decision – Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concern over the American proposal and said that Kiev is currently in the most difficult period in its history. European countries included in the G20 registered their concern over America’s plan. His statement said that this draft can become the basis for mutual talks, but many key points need to be changed in it. European countries reiterated that the borders of any country should not be changed by force and that if Ukraine leaves its current status it will become insecure for the future. The leaked US draft is said to include suggestions such as Ukraine leaving parts of eastern Donetsk, recognizing areas under Russian control and stabilizing the battle line in Kherson and Zaporizhia.

Along with this, a proposal has also come forward to limit the number of Ukrainian army and deployment of European fighter planes in its neighboring Poland. On the other hand, this draft also includes the idea of ​​gradually giving relief to Russia in economic sanctions and possibly opening the way for its return to the G7 in the future.

Britain’s opposition

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with both Trump and Zelensky during the G20. Starmer clearly stated that any proposal to limit Ukraine’s military capability is not acceptable and that Kiev needs to maintain adequate capabilities to defend itself even after the ceasefire. He says that security guarantees cannot be given in such a way that Ukraine will not be able to keep itself safe in the future.

He says that the plan sent by America can become the basis for negotiations, but Moscow is also fully prepared to continue the war.
