The Government of India has launched a mobile app named UMANG for the convenience of citizens. The objective of this app is to provide government services easy and digital on the same platform. The Umang app has been developed through the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India and the National E-Governance Division. This app is such a digital platform, which gives you more than 1200 services of more than 200 government departments. Whether it is pension, passport, LPG gas booking, or domicile certificate, all work is now possible on the same app. But another very beneficial feature of this app is that you can withdraw money from your PF account, and that too without any documents completely online. So let’s know how to remove PF claim from Umang app.

What is EPF and why do it have to be removed?
EPF is a kind of savings scheme made for jobbers. Every month, a little money is deposited from your salary, and equally accumulates from your office. This money later comes in handy during your retirement or need. You can remove your PF in certain reasons.

For example, whether you have left the job or missed, retirement is taken, medical emergency, education or marriage needs funds and funds are needed to buy or build a house. However, to remove PF from Umang app, you have to fulfill some important conditions. Like your UAN should be connected to your Aadhaar card. Your KYC details should be updated and verified on the EPFO ​​portal. You have left the job, you are unemployed, needed medical or education, there should be any correct reason.

How to remove PF claim from Umang app

1. Go to Google Play Store or Apple App Store of your phone to claim PF from Umang app. Search the UMANG app and install it.

Complaint online

If the hospital refuses treatment, then online complaint can be filed first. For this, you have to go to the official portal https://cgrms.pmjay.gov.in/grms/loginnew.htm and click on Register Your Grievance. After this, the scheme has to be selected by entering the captcha code and you can submit the complaint by filling the information sought. When a complaint is filed, a grives ID is available which needs to be preserved.

The Employees Provident Fund Organization has made the UMAG app mandatory to create and activate the Universal Account Number (UAN), this new rule has come into force from 1 August, 2025. The new system uses Aadhaar based face authentication technology (FAT) to make this process easier and safe. According to the official circular, now all the new UAN allocation will be made only through the UMANG app, which will be used by FAT. This step has been taken to remove problems and ensure better onboarding for EPFO’s new and existing members. Let us know about it in detail.

If any employee who wants to generate a new UAN or activate the existing UAN, then he will have to use the UMANG app. Apart from this, the same app will also be used to update EPFO records through biometric face authentication. To complete this process, Aadhaar Face RD app will also have to be installed. However, Nepal, Bhutan and international employees are exempted from this. His UAN can still be generated through his employer.

How to generate new UAN through UMANG app:

  1. First of all you have to open the UMANG app in your phone and choose UAN Elotment and Activation.
  2. To enter your Aadhaar number and link mobile number.
  3. After giving consent you have to tap on Sand OTP.
  4. After verifying OTP, face scan is to proceed with authentication.
  5. If no existing UAN is found, the system will automatically generate a UAN.
  6. After that you will send it to your registered number via SMS.

How to do your UAN active:

  1. First open the UMANG app in your phone and select UAN Activation.
  2. After entering your UAN, enter the Aadhaar number and mobile number.
  3. After giving consent, complete OTP verification.
  4. Authority using Aadhaar Face RD app.
  5. You will receive a confirmation SMS with your temporary password and will be activated by UAN.

If you have already activated your UAN, but want to update the record through biometric authentication, then use the face authentication of allredi activated UAN option on the UMANG app. Scan the face to update your EPFO database photo and address. EPFO’s update process is designed to increase data accuracy and user autonomy. Once active, members can use several service such as watching EPF passbooks, claiming claims, downloading E-UAN cards and updating KYC etc.

EPFO on Digilocker: Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has now made its services available on Digilocker App. Due to this, subscribers who use Android smartphones can check PF balance and passbook from anywhere. Apart from this, documents like UAN Card, Pension Payment Order (PPO) and Scheme Certificate can also now access digitally.

Now Umang app will not be needed

Till now you had to go to the UMANG app to see the PF passbook, but on July 17, the EPFO said through a post on X that now we will be able to get all the information directly through Digilocker. However, iOS users still have to use the UMANG app. EPFO gave another update on 16 July, saying that now the verification of UAN (Universal Account Number) can also be done through Face Authentication in the UMANG app. This process is easy, safe and completely digital.

Why is UAN Activation important?

UAN Activation is not only necessary for EPFO services, but it is also mandatory to avail employment linked incentive (ELI) scheme. Under this scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government aims to provide employment and skill training to four crore youth. A budget of Rs 2 lakh crore has also been kept for this.

EPFO has asked its subscribers to activate their UAN and link Aadhaar to the bank account to avail all the services and schemes digitally. If you do not activate UAN, you will not be able to avail many important services of EPFO.

UAN Activation through UMANG app

  • Install the Umang app on your mobile and open it.

  • Go to ‘EPFO’ service section.

  • Click on the option of ‘UAN Activation’.

  • Enter your UAN number, name, date of birth and registered mobile number.

  • Click ‘Get OTP’ and enter OTP.

  • Now choose the option of ‘face authentication’.

  • The camera will be turned on the app and your face will be scanned on the screen.

  • After verification, your UAN will be activated.

Mandavia said that the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has launched advanced digital service for release of UAN and activation using face authentication, which is an essential step towards providing contactless (contact), safe and full digital service for crores of members. The minister also announced the issuance of full notifications under the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) to 6 districts of Bihar Araria, Saharsa, Aurangabad, Banka, East Champaran and Gopalganj, which will lead to about 24 thousand additional insured people under the purview of ESIC’s Social Security Scheme.

He said that now employees can generate UAN directly using Aadhaar face authentication technology (FAT) using UMANG mobile app. Any employer can use the UMANG app to generate UAN using Aadhaar Face Authentication Technology (FAT) for any new employee. To generate UAN, an employee has to open the UMANG app and follow the UAN and follow the activation steps through face authentication. The UAN will be generated after Aadhaar based verification and the link in the Aadhaar database will be sent to the mobile number via SMS.

After generating the UAN, employees can download the UAN card from the UMANG app or a member portal. Users using 100 percent validation and face authentication of Aadhaar have advantage. The minister further stated that the members who already have UAN, but have not active yet, can now easily activate their UAN through the UMANG app. Using face authentication is more secure than methods such as biometric authentication, domographic or OTP based authentication.
