He said, “Every person in the country can use this app, can download it if they feel that this app is needed and if they feel that we do not need this app then they should also have the right in this democracy that I do not need it, so I will not take it.”

Government did not give reasons for necessity – Shashi Tharoor

Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor said during a conversation in the Parliament House complex, “If the government says that it is necessary to keep this app in one’s mobile, it is a rule or a law, then they will also have to tell what are the real reasons behind it. This matter has not been discussed inside the Parliament.”

With the beginning of the winter session of Parliament, all the opposition parties including Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Samajwadi Party (SP) and DMK have started creating ruckus regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of voter list being conducted by the Election Commission in 12 states and union territories of the country. However, now efforts have started to end the deadlock in Parliament. According to sources, currently discussions are going on that if the demand of the opposition parties is accepted, then under which rule the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list being done by the Election Commission of India (ECI) can be discussed in the Parliament.

Under which rule is the opposition demanding discussion?

The opposition parties are demanding discussion under Rule 267 i.e. adjournment of the proceedings of the House, the possibility of discussion under that rule is negligible. However, special discussion is also taking place on the fact that the decision of SIR is of the Election Commission. Therefore, instead of directly discussing SIR, issues like election reforms should be discussed in both the Houses of Parliament, in which political parties and MPs will be able to bring up the issue of SIR as per their own.

Final decision is yet to be taken regarding the discussion

Although, no final decision has been taken yet regarding the discussion on the issue of SIR during the winter session of the Parliament, but the discussion has definitely started and if there is a consensus on the ideas between the Central Government and the opposition parties, then it is possible to discuss electoral reforms on the floor of the Parliament in the coming days.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Wednesday (November 26, 2025) has taken a big step regarding the Aadhaar card. UIDAI has deactivated the Aadhar card numbers of more than 2 crore people across the country. The bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta on Monday (November 17, 2025) issued notice to the Central Government and DGCA as well as the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA). The main points of the petition pending in the court are:

• Opaque system – It has been argued in the petition that airlines suddenly increase fares. Their grievance redressal system is not satisfactory. Pricing done through computer algorithms is completely opaque.
• Compulsory Service – Sometimes air travel is necessary to protect the fundamental right to life. In such a situation, air travel has the status of an essential service. The prices of other essential services are controlled, but the pricing of air tickets is largely unregulated.
• Lack of regulatory body – It has been said in the petition that DGCA looks after security and other arrangements. At the same time, AERA only controls airport fees. There is no organization to monitor airline fares. In such circumstances, airlines start imposing hidden charges in difficult circumstances or at times of high demand. This leads to a sudden increase in prices.
• Excess recovery on baggage – The petitioner has said that private airlines have reduced the free check-in luggage for economy passengers from 25 kg to 15 kg. This is also a ploy to extract more money from the passengers. The government did not stop this

After a brief cross-examination of the petitioner’s lawyer, the court said that the matter is worthy of consideration. After this, the court issued notice on the petition and asked all the parties to file their reply within four weeks.

Commerce Secretary leads Indian officials in Washington

A team of Indian officials led by Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal was in Washington this week for trade talks with their US counterparts. In February this year, the leaders of India and the US had asked officials to take forward negotiations on a proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA).

CDSCO issued instructions to all states and union territories

The Health Secretary described any negligence on the quality of medicines as unacceptable. States were instructed to pay special attention to rational use of cough medicines in children. All states and union territories were asked to ensure better monitoring and timely reporting from health institutions. Instructions were given to widely spread the community reporting tools of the IDSP-IHIP platform and strengthen the coordination between the neighboring states to make it possible to be able to inform and joint action on suspicious cases.

Home Ministry took action, Sonam Wangchuk denied allegations
