The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Wednesday (November 26, 2025) has taken a big step regarding the Aadhaar card. UIDAI has deactivated the Aadhar card numbers of more than 2 crore people across the country. However, let us also tell you that UIDAI has deactivated the Aadhaar numbers of those people who are no longer in this world i.e. those who have died.

Actually, the authority has taken this big step as part of the campaign being run across the country to continuously update the Aadhaar database and to prevent any kind of misuse of Aadhaar numbers of dead people. UIDAI has undertaken this important task based on information received from sources such as Data Registrar General of India (RGI), States and Union Territories, Public Distribution System (PDS), National Social Assistance Program (NSAP). Apart from this, UIDAI is also working towards collaborating with banks and other financial institutions to get the information of the deceased people.

UIDAI Launched new facility as early as 2025

,@UIDAI deactivates over 2 Crore Aadhaar numbers of deceased individuals

Family members may also report the death of kin via myAadhaar portal

At the same time, the authority also said that UIDAI has started a new facility on My Aadhaar portal with the beginning of this year, through which family members themselves can give information regarding any of their deceased relatives. This step will prove helpful in updating the Aadhaar database completely and quickly. However, this facility is currently available in 25 states and union territories of the country that use the Civil Registration System (CRS). Apart from this, the process of connecting the remaining states and union territories to this portal is going on.

Why was this step taken?,

UIDAI said that the Aadhaar number of any person is not re-issued in the name of any other person. However, it is very important to deactivate the Aadhaar number after the death of any person, so that any kind of fraud using the identity of the concerned person or misuse of that Aadhaar number for benefiting any public welfare schemes can be prevented.

UIDAI What did he request the countrymen?,

UIDAI has requested people across the country to obtain the death certificate after the death of a family member and inform it on the myAadhaar portal, so that the records can be updated and any kind of misuse can be prevented.

The base letter can be easily made for free. Apart from this, it can also be easily updated biometric updates. The person whose Aadhaar card is, is sent through post. If for some reason your original Aadhaar card is lost or is damaged, then you can also get new.

Aadhar PVC Card

Aadhaar PVC card is a new version of Aadhaar. This Aadhaar card is PVC based, but is stronger than the normal Aadhaar card with paper. That is why it does not explode easily. This includes digital signature, safe QR code, a photo and general information.

If the age of your children has been completed 7 years, then recently, UIDAI, an organization that makes Aadhaar, has issued a new advice for parents. UIDAI has urged parents to complete biometric updates (MBU) for children aged 7 years old. UIDAI has also warned that if parents do not complete this process, their children’s Aadhaar card will be deactivated. When UIDAI has noticed that despite the current rules, there are a large number of children who have not updated biometric data, after which this warning has been issued. Let us know about it in detail.

UIDAI warned

According to the current rules of the Aadhaar Act 2016, children are required to get mandatory biometric updates (MBU) after the age of 5 years. The MBU process involves updating their fingerprints, iris scans and facial photos, as these things may be accurately captured at this age. However, UIDAI has found that many parents have not completed this necessary process. Therefore, UIDAI has now warned parents that if they do not update biometrics, their children’s Aadhaar card will be deactivated.

UIDAI said that it is very important for MBU to complete time to maintain the accuracy of children’s biometric data. If MBU is not completed even after the age of 7 years, the Aadhaar number can be deactivated according to the current rules.

Update for Aadhaar biometrics free

UIDAI is sending SMS on the mobile numbers registered with the Aadhaar of children whose biometrics have not been updated. In SMS, UIDAI is asking parents to complete the required MBU process.

UIDAI said that according to the current rules, it is necessary to update fingerprints, iris scans and photos in the base of the child on completion of 5 years. This is called the first compulsory biometric update (MBU). If the child gets MBU (MBU) between 5 and 7 years of age, then it is free. But after the age of 7, it is charged only 100 rupees.
