The Ministry of Education of the Government of India is continuously working to give a new identity to the youth of the country, new innovations and startups in the whole world. In this series, a very special ‘road-show’ was organized in Paris, the capital of France, to connect the country’s promising startups and universities with foreign investors. This road-show was mainly a part of the preparation for the international event named ‘Bharat Innovates 2026’. Let us know what is this entire program and how will India benefit from it?

What is Bharat Innovates 2026?

‘Bharat Innovates’ is a global summit, which will be held in the beautiful city of Nice, France from 14 to 16 June 2026. Its aim is to connect India’s ‘deep-tech startups’ (new companies working in depth on science and technology) and universities with big investors, international companies and foreign research institutes from around the world. This is a platform where the youth of the country will present their brilliant ideas and new technology to the world. At the same time, foreign investors will provide money and necessary support to make their business bigger.

What was special in the Paris road show?

This road-show was organized in Paris before the main event to be held in June, so that European investors could be informed about this mega conference. More than 50 representatives from the Ministry of Education of India, the Indian Embassy in Paris and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) participated in this program. From the French side also, senior officials from famous tech institutions like ‘La French Tech’ and ‘Vivatech’ as well as many renowned educational institutions participated. During the program, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Education, KM Prafulla Chandra Sharma talked about the strong friendship between India and France. At the same time, Joint Secretary Govind Jaiswal told through a presentation how foreign investors can earn profits by becoming a part of India’s rapidly growing startup environment.

Maximum emphasis will be on these 13 modern technologies

‘Bharat Innovates’ is not limited to just general business, rather it will focus on 13 most special and modern technologies of the future. Some of these major areas are as follows.

Advanced Computing and Semiconductors: New and fast technology for making computer and mobile chips.

Next generation communications: Internet and new ways of communicating (such as 6G and beyond).

Biotechnology: New life saving discoveries related to health, medicines and science

Space and Defense: Space Research and Machines to Strengthen National Security.

Manufacturing and Industry 4.0: Robotics and smart working technologies in factories.

Read this also – After 12th, these degree courses will give the highest salary in 2026, career will become superhit!

The journey from ‘lab to market’
The biggest feature of this initiative is that it will not allow new discoveries in Indian universities to be limited to just laboratories or books. With the help of ‘Bharat Innovates 2026’, those discoveries will be launched in the market as real products. This program will also have the facility of one-to-one meetings between investors and startups, which will make the investment process easier and faster.

How did it start?
Let us tell you that the foundation of this initiative was started by PM Modi on 17 February 2026 in the presence of the President of France, ‘India-France Innovation Year’. ‘Bharat Innovates’ was also announced on the same day.

All the countries in the world give special importance to education because everyone knows that only an educated citizen builds a country and creates the future of the country. All over the world, education is considered the foundation of developed countries and that is why different nations create a huge network of schools and colleges at their own level. However, an interesting question always remains in discussion, after all, which country has the highest number of schools and colleges in the world? And where does India rank in this list?

India’s population and education needs

India comes seventh in the world and number 1 in the world in terms of population. According to the survey, 46.9% of the total population of India is below 25 years of age, which makes India a young country. With such a large population receiving education, is the network or number of educational institutions in our country big enough to provide education to such a huge population?

Highest educational institute in India

You will be proud to know that India has the largest number of educational institutions (schools, colleges, universities) in the world. After India comes the United States and China. It is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records that the number of secondary schools in India is the highest in the whole world, where 139,539 educational institutions are available for children or students from class 9th to 12th, which shows that India is completely aware of education.

Total number of schools in India

There are approximately 15 lakh schools in India, which include schools at all levels of primary, upper primary, secondary and higher secondary, which are providing education to the vast population of India.

Higher education institutions of India

India also has a large number of institutions of higher education (colleges and universities) that are responsible for the future of India’s students, among which IITs, IIMs, NITs and IISC Bengaluru are elite and known throughout the world for their quality of education. There are more than 12,700 higher education institutions in the country, including more than 4,000 recognized universities. In some sources this number is also stated to be 5,000 to 8,000 universities.

America’s educational institutions

The number of higher educational institutions in the United States is approximately 4000, but according to the 2023 24 report, the number of higher educational institutions in America, which include higher degrees like Bachelor’s Degree and sometimes Master’s and Doctorate (PhD), is approximately 5,819. America is the first choice of every student in the world for higher education. There are world famous educational institutions here, which include world famous universities like Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Princeton, Yale, Columbia.

China’s higher educational institutions

China ranks third in the world in the number of higher educational institutions. According to China’s Ministry of Education, there are 3,117 universities, colleges and other institutions of higher education, including 1,308 universities and colleges and 1,560 vocational and technical colleges, including major educational institutions such as Tsinghua University and Peking University.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has made an necessary change in higher education and made the apprenticeship compulsory for the undergraduate (UG) students. Also, it has been decided to include Indian Knowledge System (IKS) in graduate and post graduate (PG) courses. The main objective of these changes is to prepare students according to the industry and promote the Indian knowledge tradition.

 you will get practical experience

Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, UGC has made the apprenticeship mandatory in undergraduate courses. This will give students a practical experience of working in the industry, so that they will be prepared better for the job market. It is very important to have practical experience to master any work. Therefore, Higher Education Institutions (Hei) will have to determine the seats of Apprenticeship as per the needs of the industry and they will be registered on the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) portal.

 New rules of apprenticeship

In a three -year degree program, students will have to apprehend the first between the third semester and the second semester in the four -year degree program. This process will be mandatory in the last semester. Students will have to do at least three months apprenticeship to get a total of 10 credit scores. With this initiative, students will get the experience of ground reality in their chosen subject and will improve their work.

UG-PG will have Indian Knowledge System (IKS) mandatory

UGC has decided to make it mandatory in undergraduate and postgraduate courses to promote the Indian Knowledge System (IKS). Students will have to earn 5% credits from the total course credit, while 50% credit will be obtained from the main subjects. Under this, students will be made aware of Vedas, Purana, Yoga, Ayurveda, Astrology and traditional Indian knowledge system. The purpose of this initiative is to connect students with Indian culture and scientific heritage, so that they can strengthen their cultural roots along with modern technology.

 students will have widespread benefits

This new decision of UGC will give students the experience of working in the industry, which will increase their career opportunities further, while the study of Indian knowledge system will help them to connect them with the ancient philosopher and scientific traditions of India. With this, they will be ready to face the challenges of the modern world while maintaining their cultural identity globally.
