Conversion in India has been a sensitive issue. Many states have enacted strict laws to prevent conversion by forcibly, deception or greed. These include states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka and Odisha. But after recent changes, the anti -conversion law of Uttar Pradesh is considered to be the most strict in the country. Meanwhile, the Rajasthan government is also preparing to enact strict laws regarding conversion.

What is in the religious family law of Rajasthan

The Rajasthan government is now preparing to bring a very tough law soon. Bhajan Lal Sarkar of Rajasthan has decided to bring a new bill with strict provisions to prevent forcibly conversion. According to the draft of the Rajasthan-Vidhi Vidhi Dharma Conversion Bill, 2025, forcibly, forcibly, deceit or for those converting through marriage is imprisoned up to 7-14 years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh. If SC/ST community or minor girl is converted, in such a case, a provision of jail for 10-20 years and a fine of up to 10 lakh. Life imprisonment for 20 years and a fine of Rs 25 lakh in collective conversion. Let us know what are the laws in other states including UP.

Why is the conversion of UP the most strict conversion of UP?
Applied in Uttar Pradesh in 2021. Uttar Pradesh was brought to the Law-Charitable Religion Compression Prohibition (Amendment) Act 2024. After this amendment, this law became more tough. Talking about the law of conversion in UP, the law here is considered one of the most rigorous conversion law. Here, in the case of illegal conversion, a fine of Rs 10 lakh and a sentence of 14 years can be done. At the same time, there is a provision of punishment ranging from 20 years to life imprisonment for the conversion of a minor woman or scheduled caste/tribe person. All these crimes are placed in the non-bailable category.

Haryana

There is imprisonment for 1 to 5 years and a fine of Rs 1 lakh on forcible conversion. In cases of minor or SC/ST, there may be a sentence of 2 to 10 years and a fine of Rs 3 lakh.

Madhya Pradesh

There is a imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine of Rs 1 lakh on forcible conversion.

Odisha
