Highest post of state police

In a big state like Uttar Pradesh, the responsibility of maintaining law and order, crime control, operation of the police force and giving security related advice to the government rests on the shoulders of the DGP. It is counted among the highest posts in the Indian Police Service (IPS). Therefore, its salary is also decided according to the highest pay scale of the officers.

How much salary do you get at present?

At present the DGP of Uttar Pradesh gets salary under the 7th Pay Commission. The post of DGP comes in the apex scale, which is included in the highest pay scales of government service. The basic salary of DGP is around Rs 2.25 lakh per month. Apart from this, they also get Dearness Allowance (DA), traveling allowance and other government facilities.

If dearness allowance is added, an additional amount of more than Rs 1 lakh is added to it. At the same time, if government accommodation is not provided to any officer, then House Rent Allowance (HRA) is also given. By adding all these allowances and facilities, the total monthly income of DGP reaches approximately Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 4 lakh.

The facilities provided to the DGP are not limited to salary only. Being the police chief of the state, he is also provided with many government facilities. These include government bungalow, official vehicles, drivers, security personnel, staff and other administrative facilities. The economic value of these facilities is considered to be quite huge.

How much can earnings increase with the 8th Pay Commission?

The Central Government has started the process of constituting the 8th Pay Commission. Although it has not been implemented yet, the salaries of government employees and officers may increase by 25 to 30 percent. If this happens, the basic salary of DGP may increase to around Rs 2.80 lakh to Rs 3 lakh per month.

Along with this, there may be change in allowances as per the new structure. After adding dearness allowance and other benefits, the total monthly salary of DGP is expected to reach Rs 5 lakh to Rs 5.5 lakh.
